Ty Isaac's appeal was denied. He'll sit out the season.

Isaac is the team's scout RB right now, will have 3 years left starting in 2015.

Considering the team's depth at RB, this is good news.

Rich Rod answered questions and made it easy for the media to do their jobs.  How did that work out?

Brady Hoke was 100% correct to reinstitute "The Fort."  It would be an understatement to say that the media are a bunch of jackals nowadays.  Giving anything but minimal information not only opens the doors for the Snyders and Rosenbergs of the world, but also can give opponents an edge.

Brady Hoke doesn't owe the media anything.

Hi my name is James and I'll take the coach who tells the media shit and doesn't opt for a pyrrhic 50 yard field goal on fourth and short at the beginning of the game against ND while the score is still tied deep in their territory. But that's just me.

Well wasn't this kind of a foregone conclusion when we didn't have an answer by the opening game or two?   I mean if they accepted his appeal , would we want to start playing him in the 4th or 5th game and only get 2/3 of a season out of him?

I think people around here underestimate how valuable Isaac could be right now.  If the scouting report on him was accurate, he has outstanding vision, burst, and ability to make that first cut.  That's probably exactly the kind of RB who would do well in this offense.  Hopefully Green and Smith are now the decisive, smart backs we saw on Saturday rather than the ones we saw against ND, but I'm much less concerned about our running game 2-3 years from now than I am about our running game right now.

I have a friend who works closely with the team. Says that Issac's talent is obvious, but he spent 3 months out of a college weight program so he's behind our current guys in terms of conditioning and looks a bit "doughy."

He would have played this year, but not to his potential. He'll be better off with a redshirt, and I think we (this year's team) can manage as well

Fine with me. Take a year to learn Coach Nuss' system. Be a workout warrior in the weight room. Next year Derrick, De'Veon, Mike Weber and he can be a four-headed monster.

Everyone thought the competition across the team this year was insane!! 2015 have some very intense practices. Can't wait to find out who comes out on top.

Position battles that will be most intriguing (to me): Running Back...Green, Isaac, Smith, Weber

                                                                                  Quarterback.. Morris, Speight, Bellomy

                                                                                  Strong Defensive End...Taco, Poggi, Roseboro

                                                                                   Middle Linebacker...Gedeon, McCray, Ferns

                                                                                   OFFENSIVE LINE...Cole, Mags, Miller, Kugler,

                                                                                                                   Bosch, Kalis, Dawson, etc

Silver Lining:

He gets to go against a legit run defense every day.... and our D gets to go against a B1G starting RB in practice every day.   Win-Win:    2014 D gets tested and Isaac improves for 2015

Woof. We're loaded at RB for the foreseeable future. The battle for the starting job next season will be intense with Green, Smith, Weber, and Issac all gunning for it. Hopefully the competition brings out the best in them!

put me in the camp of those who thinks this is a good thing personally. It puts a year between Green/Smith and Isaac and allows him to get acclimated to the University a bit. I don't see a huge downside here unless DG and DS forget that in football, like with women, you want to hit the hole.

but the potential 2016 depth chart:

Green  Senior

Smith  Senior

Isaac RS Junior

Weber RS Freshman

is crazy.

And considering the OL should be full of RS Seniors and Juniors by that point, that should be a dominant running team.

Then I realize projecting anything to do with a college team 2 years out is stupid.

This also leaves the possibility of skipping a 2016 RB recruit and keeping that spot open for another position.  We do have effectively two 2015s now.  Going to be difficult to get a high end 2016 kid who wants to play immediately to come in as a 5th string in 2017.

Ty will start over Green next year and the visible difference in their abilities will not even be close.

Looking forward to having a back with game breaking speed, just so happens tha he is also HUGE for a RB! I think he and Green/Smith will compliment eachother perfectly. Although, I would not be opposed to seeing him get ALL OF THE CARRIES!

It must be frustrating to play as a freshman but then have to sit out as a sophomore.  It reminds me of when I studied abroad the first semester of my Junior year and was able to hit all the pubs and clubs, but then came back to the US for the second semester and was underage again.  My drinking showed tremendous promise at that stage in my college career, and I don't think I ever quite recovered from the setback.

I'm okay with this. We're pretty well stocked at running back right now. I'm more than okay with Isaac having a year to learn the system, and get the chance to start next year (which I think he will) behind a much more veteran, experienced O-Line.

The kid's got the whole package. Speed, power, and can catch out of the backfield. Combine him with Green, Smith, and Weber, and there's a lot of devastation you can unleash on another team. Assuming the O-Line can continue progressing anyway.
