And the stories that go with them are great. But when I saw that picture of Dan Dierdorf using crutches, for some reason I got quite sad. Tough to see him like that when all you think of is how much of a beast that guy was in his day.

Football leaves a mark on its players.
I believe his difficulty in getting around is the reason he retired from television broadcasting, which has much more intense travel demands.
The pictures are great. That Kenny Allen pic from afternoon practice is amazing.

Of an NFL films special I watched years ago when Bettis was still in the league. They followed him on Monday morning, and he had to get help from his wife getting going in the morning - getting out of bed, showering, getting up and down stairs...and he was still playing. Quite a physical sacrifice.

What an ass. There was a time when Dan Dierdorf was a nasty SOB on the field-- such a bulldozer you can watch his highlights and forget the brain power and technique it takes to be so good. If Father Time can make THAT guy walk with a cane, he's sure as hell wipe me out.

yep it can be brutal on the body - ive always seen earl campbell as one the sadder examples of that fact (though theres plenty more, unfortunately). tough to age as an ex football player

When Harbs and Drevno can't believe the state of the offense
"(Offensive coordinator Tim Drevno) was saying the same thing. We couldn't get stuff picked up, protected"
This situation caused him to consider jumping off the Bell Tower, good to remember how far we have come with this staff.

Honestly I love that quote, because it shows that even guys like Harbaugh have moments where it seems like nothing is going right. It's real.

I've known a John Paul or two who have gone by J.P. Maybe it's a derivative of that?
EDIT: I Googled. It's George Patrick, which makes more sense.

I love this quote from the second story:
"It's not easy to describe. I've seen it with Ali. I've seen it with Mandela, and certainly with Coach Harbaugh."
Ali, Mandela and Harbaugh. That is some impressive company.
