Two 1,000-yard rushers this season?

Submitted by jmblue on

We've got a shot to get two 1,000-yard rushers this season.  Denard leads the team with 910 yards, while Toussaint is coming on strong with 753 yards.  Denard's pretty much a lock if healthy, while Toussaint needs to average 82.3 ypg from here on out, which seems about 50-50 to me. For him to reach 1,000 while only being our featured back for part of the season would be very impressive.

Anyone know when was the last time we had two 1,000-yard rushers?  I don't think it ever happened under Carr or Moeller, but I imagine it did under Bo at some point.

Didn't see the Tony Boles / Leroy Hoard / Allan Jefferson with Jarod Bunch at fullback backfield listed, I assume bc the 2nd back didn't go over 1k.  Wheatley / Biakabatuka backfield was a great one, but Tim didn't get k his 1k until after Tyrone was gone.

From a pure statistical standpoint, Michigan had its best rushing season in 1976. That team still holds the Michigan records for total net yards (4,144), most net yards per game (345.3), and highest average yards per rush (5.9).

That team just missed having two 1,000-yard rushers and had four with more than 500 yards:

  • Rob Lytle: 1,469
  • Harlan Huckleby: 912
  • Rick Leach: 638
  • Russell Davis: 596

66. Nebraska 161.3 YPG 16 TD 27. Ohio State 119.3 YPG 9 TD If they want to get their 2 1,000 yard rushers, they might have to do a lot of their work against Nebraska. I don't even want to think about a potential bowl match up, but if Hoke gets them focused and they win out, we might face someone like Bama, who might be extremely tough to run against. I'd love to see the yards come in these two games because, in all likelihood, we will have won the games as a result.
