Regarding the Oregon State lumberjack...I don't recall him at the Oregon State games I have been to, but they do pipe in an annoying chainsaw sound on third downs (think the Penn State Lion growl but more ear splitting).
Logging is a big industry here, and it has even helped fund OSU (NTOSU) to an extent, but it does seem odd to use him when the mascot if the Beaver.
The Timbers and a local high school (whose mascot is The Loggers) do use lumberjacks with chainsaws, but that just makes sense. Oregon State using one does not.

I think it's hilarious that Iowa fans are pissed off over Ferentz's decision to chill out and play for OT with 90 seconds and two timeouts and the score tied. Indiana had exactly the same situation and some of their fans are pissed off because IU did the exact opposite. Because neither worked, of course.
