Haha wow that Kentucky gif is one for the ages
"Rodrick Williams Jr.'s 10-month old, 2-foot-long savannah monitor named "Kill" gets the RB some strange looks when they go for walks together."
Haha wow that Kentucky gif is one for the ages
so funny. I have watched it like 20 times today and it gets funnier every time. It is not that I am catching anything new from more viewings, it is just a mesmorizing kind of funny that I can't take my eyes off. For every reason, maybe the best 2 seconds of footage every caught on tape. Even the women clapping behind the guy who falls, she is just clapping to clap and wondering what the hell just happened and how exactly she got to where she is. Hilarious.
There was this UK gif that Brian posted last season.
Now that is one hell of a 5 step drop...
I'm bringing my two 14yr old boys to the Air Force game this week. This will be there first time in Ann Arbor, and we are driving from western PA early Sat. What's a good local place to eat prior to the game and/or after. Also, what would be somethings or places we should go or see to impress them.....one is a USC fan, and one a Texas fan, hopefully they will have a great weekend and see the light!
of Good Time Charlies, their count stix (is that what they are called?) with pepperoni baked in are to die for! But in general on game day everything will be absolutely crowded. If you want pizza, NYPD is really good and a campus staple.
I'm a big Pizza House fan myself. Before the games it's not usually too busy, but after there can be a long wait.
Is good for the food, but each time I went there the servers or the host just pissed me off. I remember walking into pick up a pie when they told me they forgot to put it in the oven, I didn't really react cause mistakes happen, but the host gave me a ton of attitude that was really uncalled for.
Huh - I've never had any issue with them. Maybe you caught them on a bad day.
cause their food is good, but cause of that I didn't go again. Rude behavior is just uncalled for, especially when I didn't really do anything to justify it.
After the Ohio State game last year, we went to Pizza House and Kenny Demens was at the table next to ours. There was no wait, by the way.
Depending on whether you have a car, it is necessary to recommend Zingerman's for someone looking for food spots in Ann Arbor. Not directly on campus, but not too far either. Would be a great post-game meal and I'm an advocate of getting anyone new in AA to that deli. Best sandwiches I've had.
If you're talking about on-campus, although every place will be crowded I'd go with Ashleys, Mr. Spots, or NYPD. There aren't many good sit-down restaurants on campus but if you were to choose one I'd say the original cottage inn on E. William Street. Pizza house is overrated unless you're ordering cheesy bread.
Zingerman's is good, especally for breakfast (as is Angelo's, of course), but it ain't cheap.
For on-campus food in a good setting for 14 yr olds (not sure if you're ok with taking them to a pub like Ashley's), I'd go Cottage Inn or Pizza House.
I'm also obligated to suggest Seoul Street up near north campus, as it is a Korean joint (with awesome Korean fried chicken) owned by Michigan alums.
You are crazy for recommending Zingermans on ANY Saturday let alone game day. Same for angelos. Stick to making recomendatioms in Royal Oak or Brighton or wherever. Or perhaps you love waiting in line. Also, Ashley's is a bar and does not let in kids,
I'm almost positive Ashley's is kid friendly until after a certain hour at which point they start checking ID at the door.
That said, I'd recommend hitting up Main St (between Huron and E Williams). There's a solid stretch of good places to eat. Arbor Brewing Co is another underrated place that is seldom busy since they're a little off the beaten path but still right off Main.
Try Blue Tractor between campus and downtown. Excellent BBQ, local brews, reasonable prices, and a fairly easy walk to the stadium (I usually park in a downtown lot for cheap and by the time I have walked back the traffic has cleared).
They're 14 year old boys...let them hang out on sorority row when everyone starts heading out for the evening parties.
Pizza Bob's is a great recommendation.
Pizza Bob's is a great recommendation.
And Pizza House or Original Cottage Inn are the best of those IMHO. You could also try Zingerman's Roadhouse (if you don't mind spending a bundle) or Deli. Both excellent.
If you want to grab drinks or general pub fair I'd go with Ashley's honestly. Though the service is usually pretty poor the beer selection is MASSIVE and the Stilton Fries are incredible. Red Hawk Grill is also along State Street near Williams, is a bit more up-scale in atmosphere and has better food (overall) and service, but a limited beer selection.
On the cheaper side of things you could go with Blimpy Burger (super busy on game day tho) or The Fleetwood Diner. I doubt either would impress with their facilities but the food is great and their atmospheres are both unique.
ALL of these places will be unbarably packed after the game...
Plenty of quality places along mainstreet too, though they'll all be busy and expensive. Of those I might recommend Palio though it's not really a "Ann Arbor staple" the way some of these others are.
If you're looking to impress Pizza House and Zingerman's probably give you the best chance.
*NOTE: I've never been to Zingerman's anything on a weekend, let alone a gameday. Ashley's and Red Hawk both allow those under 21 in before 10pm for dining and will check IDs at the tables for anyone who orders booze.
Dude gets paid to block quote and analyze his drunk tirade tweets during the woodsheddin'.
And, of course, the whole thing works. Fun read... Even for the second time around. Wub Wub.
The Michigan stuff (even if it's from Brian himself) is kinda "meh." The best schadenfreude comes from message-board posts. Tweets/live chat comments are too instantaneous to allow for the kind of hard core, quasi-reflective angst that makes for beautiful schadenfreude.
The UK gif is excellent, though.
Agreed, the in depth message board posts are the best. I'm kinda surprised our fearless leader let us off easy by not pulling from the board here and simply showing his own tweets from during the game, there was some great 'freude here on the board for others to enjoy. I guess he didn't want TWIS to be all U of M stuff.
I'm just glad TWIS is back yet again this year, it is awesome, as always.
My favorite was covering the Countess injury he noticed the guy who was picked out as having 2 posts of 3 words.
Is that a cardboard cutout or am I just imagining things?
It's too bad Bryan Curtis' article on Grantland wasn't posted in time for this week's TWIS. In the headline "Is Michigan Too Smart for College Football?", Curtis perfectly captures the sense of rationalizing condescension and ever-so-subtle self-doubt that typifies the reaction of Michigan Men to yet another humiliating loss to a football factory (and the Michigan Man persona in general).
I would like to thank Brian for using my Bruce Jenner pickle line. Totally true. Happened at TopNotch Beef Burgers in Chicago. The pickle was slightly more human-looking than the man, but otherwise, a very close facsimile.
The Bruce Jenner pickle comment totally made TWIS. Question, though: was the pickle in the image of Bruce Jenner circa 1976 in all his athletic glory or a facsimile of modern-day trainwreck Bruce?
I sort of felt like they took the chips and put them in a blender by the time I finished that damn game.
Did you see the look on Saban's face after that last TD? Like a submarine captain watching a ship sink in flames.
Yes, my Shatner/Kirk .gif made it into the article! I feel so honored.
What episode is that from? I don't recognize it at all. I have a sneaking suspicion that it must be from the dreaded "lost" third season which freatured classics like "Spock's Brain."
Yup, Season 3, episode 16 "Whom Gods Destroy."
Season 3 had a few good episodes, but by and large....yeah. That's what happens when the network tries to kill your show. Their per-episode budget was lower in season 3 than it was even in the first two.
go back to mlive.
and look forward to next week for some good Aggie schadenfreude. Some of the best stuff came from Aggie fans last year. At home, favored over Florida who looked shakey vs. BG....this will not end well.
Aggies melt down really well. It's like queso up in there.
Particularly after someone did this in Gainesville.
They didn't. Sauce for the goose.
Have Aggie fans forgotten over the off-season that their program has pretty much sucked ballz for over a decade now?
EDIT: I'm pretty sure Brian has got that image loaded up and ready to go for next week's installment of TWIS. I don't usually root for Florida but I think I'll have to this week just to see that image again.
That, and there's something of a "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" quality to the last bit about academics and cleanliness.
Vandy has better academics than Texas A&M. Vandy should really be part of the B1G since they closely aligned to B1G values and academic prowness.
Seems...imprudent at this stage in their assimilation into the conference.
Twitter is really boring.
"Maryland beat William & Mary 7-6. Also they're calling Randy Edsall "Rangoon" for an as-yet inexplicable reason. Is he deep-fried and crabby … heyyyyyy HE IS. Point Maryland. You'll need it." - from TWIS
Wow. They only put up 7 on Jimmye Laycock's Tribe, eh? The state of utter resignation on the Maryland board linked in the article has some fairly underrated wit in it. It seems like they'll want Bobby Ross back any moment now. This guy might be the realist on the Maryland boards then when it comes to the success of Edsall at Maryland - "If he could somehow pull 5 wins out of his ass, that would be such a huge recruiting tool considering that we have no QBs."
is in a state of renovation especially at the college level. It's how the available resources are used that makes the difference between coaching staffs.
