Tuesday Night NCAA BBall Open Thread

Submitted by Bill the Butcher on

MSU vs UK about to start the second half and Kansas and Duke to follow.

Figured we should have an open thread for these games.

Down goes Frazier!

Couldn't have happened to a group of more highly touted young men.  Which I just love to see.

Go B1G.  Can't wait to play State (In AA... a little nervous about heading up to Lansing)

I'm glad that the Spartans won, but wow Calipari mismanaged that game at the end. Izzo gave him two chances to tell his players to foul and instead he put it on his defense to not only get a stop, but get the ball back and stop the clock in time to get a play off in what would probably be less than 4 seconds. Just stupid.

Calipari made the right call in my mind.  They should have stopped MSU, and 5 seconds is enough time to move the ball down and make a play or call a TO.  In addition, if you foul there you are fouling a good FT shooting team and essentially asking your players to make threes.  UK was shooting 22% on threes, which included numerous open threes.  I wouldn't have banked on the threes.

It was the right move...just have to get a stop, and when you do, you have to get the rebound. They did part 1, but not part 2. Can't fault the coach on that one.

Beilein actually made a MUCH riskier choice not to foul vs. KU late in the sweet 16 game and J-Mo made the underrated play of the game on the stop before "The Shot."

Just going off the eye test, which in basketball is a lot more predictable than football (I saw Michigan as a Elite 8/Final Four team at this point last year)...but way more, teams, upsets, etc. So it's a pointless exercise, but I need something to do while watching these games...so why now?

I'll give it a shot...

1. MSU
2. Duke
-----------------------------------Championship 2
3. Kentucky
4. Louisville
-----------------------------------Final Four
5. Syracuse
6. VCU
7. Wichita St.
8. Florida
-----------------------------------Elite 8
9. Creighton
10. Ohio St.
11. Michgan
12. Kansas
13. Harvard
14. Arizona
15. Marquette
16. Oklahoma St.
-----------------------------------Sweet 16

Wisconsin and Maryland are my two teams that I wanted to include, but didn't.

This is slightly OT but has been driving me crazy for months.  There is this one song that is played at Crisler that I like but have no idea what it is.  It is purely a beat, last season they would play it when introducing the starting lineup.  This year I have heard a few bits and pieces of it, but since it has no lyrics I have had trouble finding it.  Does anyone know the song I am referring to?

Glad to see sparty win. I've always had a soft spot for Tom Izzo and sparty bball. I think a lot of UM fans Adopted them during the dark days of ellerbe and amaker. Although Izzo is tough on his guys and a little spastic on the sideline, he seems genuinely interested in making his players positive contributors to society. I know more than a few UM grads that were pulling for the flintstones in 2000. Not to mention Calipari is satan (I.e. The Lane Kiffin of college bball.)
