Tuesday Night NCAA Basketball Thread (Sparty @ Iowa)
Simply stated. Sparty takes their injured and needing-sympathy team to Iowa City for a classic Big Ten showdown. Right now, ESPN.
There are other games but this is the best one of the night. Go Hawks.

Shooting into a sea of yellow. He had no chance with that wrist.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Lol at the UK score. LSU up 22-6. Oh dear.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Slap the floor!
January 28th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
and his wrist would heal. On second thought institute double slaps on key possessions.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
LOL Iowa. Horrid

January 28th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
They called time out and couldn't come up with a better play than sending the smallest guy on the court for a layup?
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
Wow that was a foul on Appling.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
of course.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
And no call.
FUCK YOU TOM IZZO! DON'T EVER COMPLAIN ABOUT ANOTHER MOTHERFUCKING CALL!
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
How do they not call that foul on Appling?! HOLY FUCK!
January 29th, 2014 at 9:57 AM ^
he's playing with a hurt wrist. He had to use his body instead. If you have a hurt wrist, I believe its a no call. hurt wrist.

January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
Iowa with the well deserved loss. You can argue that it was a foul at the end, though a.) even I wouldn't call that and b.) it's not like Iowa was going to make both of them.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
Izzo's wiping the sweat off of his face with his hands. i wouldn't want to be in handshake line.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
Off to politics. How boring.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
And that is why an Izzo team is almost always contending for a B1G title. And I won't count them out for next year, as depleted as they will be.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:35 PM ^
Because the other team can't hit a FT to save themselves?
And btw, this "depleted" team still has a lottery pick and another 4-year starter playing at least reasonably well.
MSU can win games by mucking it up and the refs letting them get away with it. But next year is not going to be fun for them, no matter how "tough" they play.
January 29th, 2014 at 6:10 AM ^
So they can't muck it up next year? The refs will change?
I hope like @#$% you're right, but they were missing two of their best four players and beat a top B1G team on the road.Next year, two will have graduated and a strong possibility of a third leaving. Izzo will also have the advantage of knowing they are gone from day one and can develop and game plan accordingly. And there's always the possibility of players blossoming and stepping up.
You won't see an elite team, but you won't see a dreg either.
January 29th, 2014 at 8:35 AM ^
Nobody expects MSU to be a dreg, but the conference is stronger and look no further than Indiana to see what happens when you lose a great deal of talent. They'll be competitive, but no amount of gameplanning will change the fact that your team lacks offensive playmakers and isn't as great defensively as it used to be.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
Whiner's prosper. Never thought I'd see that level of pro visiting team bias in the B1G.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
And yes, I think Iowa blew it by not making their FT's. No doubt. But even with all the calls the refs still were letting MSU get away with stuff that they didn't let Iowa do.
January 28th, 2014 at 11:23 PM ^
a third of their points there while going 15 minutes without making a basket of any kind. Where was White and all these other contributors?
January 28th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
For the love of god ESPN, I thought Dick Vitale was bad enough to listen to during games.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:28 PM ^
January 28th, 2014 at 9:30 PM ^
Yeah, my bad on over-reacting. I agree Bilas isn't bad, at least as far as I can remember. Just got tired of this "MSU fighting through adversity" story repeated over and over.

January 29th, 2014 at 12:00 AM ^
Everyone loves Gus.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
that's fitting. Gad did Iowa shit the bed there--epic fashion.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
Fergodsakes Iowa. How the eff do you lose that game. Both decided to have their off nights yet Sparty's off night was good enough. Yuck.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:31 PM ^
Because in about a two minute span, Appling took 3 steps in an obvious travel, Fran noticed and got T'd for it, and Valentine committed his eighth foul by clothelining Woodbury to get a rebound and put back. Six points in regulation, Iowa wins going away without them.
January 29th, 2014 at 11:43 AM ^
Marble got away with a travel, too, so let's cancel those out. Iowa went to the freethrow line 43 times. Let's make sure they go some more, cuz that aint enough. Sure, Izzo could have been T'd. But McCaffery's act is over the top by any standards. Dude loses his mind over minor calls every game. Iowa's loss was not because of refs. They were close because of refs.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:31 PM ^
You have FG droughts of 4 and 5 min in the first half and a 13(!) minute one in the second half and you have 4 timeouts going into OT? Where is the stop, draw up a play and win the game? Totally felt that Iowa gave this one away
January 28th, 2014 at 9:33 PM ^
So Appling, who according to Izzo "couldn't shoot" just three days ago because of his wrist, led MSU with 16 points including 3-6 from downtown, and twice slapped the floor. Okay.

January 28th, 2014 at 9:36 PM ^
He pulls that shit all thet time and has never and will never be called on it.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:39 PM ^
Izzo spends more time on the court than his players.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:43 PM ^
January 29th, 2014 at 7:44 AM ^
please make this happen.
January 28th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
It is astonishing how Izzo does technical foul-worthy things in basically every game and never gets T'd up.
Meanwhile, Fran McCaffery seems to be a technical foul magnet.

January 28th, 2014 at 9:35 PM ^
I hope Iowa plays like that against us in our next game with them. We'd win by 20.
January 28th, 2014 at 9:41 PM ^
The B1G is ours!
January 28th, 2014 at 9:43 PM ^
It seems like teams we root for to help us out in the standings always find creative ways to choke. Dammit Iowa.
