TSIOhio Honors Tressel With Wall
http://www.cleveland.com/buckeyeblog/index.ssf/2011/08/ohio_state_honors_jim_tressel.html
With all the talk about The U and LSU, I'm going through Ohio schadenfreude withdrawal lately. With the school still waiting for an NCAA ruling, the powers that be at Ohio have decided the time is right to erect a memorial wall to Saint Tressel in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Also of note, the Ohio newspapers don't seem to have adjusted Tressel's coaching record for the vacating of last year's games. Denial ain't a river in Egypt, baby.

This, along with paying JT out, is a big fatt FU to the NCAA. That takes some balls, and OSU's admin has them. They didn't open up their records, barely complied with the NCAA, and now these few acts of FU. They are basically making the NCAA look like laughingstocks and I am impressed. Regardless of moral beliefs, these actions show balls!
I guess cheaters win, some of the time.

The NCAA President and OSU President are ex-housemates.
August 31st, 2011 at 2:33 PM ^
Sorry, ex-housemates sounded funny. I can't imagine anybody living with Gordon Gee other than his mom.

"I guess cheaters win, some of the time."
The Buckeyes certainly won against Michigan, seven in a row so far. (One will be wiped out.)
Now Michigan needs to end the streak ON THE FIELD and quit worrying about OSU's free tattoos, which had nothing to do with the streak.

People with tattoos are better at football. This is an undeniable fact.
August 31st, 2011 at 2:09 PM ^
will do nothing. They are a self-hating joke.
August 31st, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
Yes, but their president loves him some Gordon Gee.

August 31st, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
If so...bullshit.
August 31st, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
And I admit it's sad that I'm happier that he's officially 8-1 against us. Maybe somebody also knows about something I heard the other day. Apparently Tressel's "resignation" means he will no longer be eligible for highest career winning percentage. That puts Yost and Bo back at 1 and 2. Did I read that somewhere on this board? Like I said though, Ohio's motto is Denial, Denial, Denial.
Edit: The article says 9-1 vs Michigan. I don't know about the actual wall.
August 31st, 2011 at 5:20 PM ^
Also, if we didn't lose to them last season, their stupid clock that says how long it's been since we've beaten them should include a clock that says the opposite, because it's been almost 2 years. That always made me mad, it's like, yeah it's been however many days since, but it's not like we play every day so it's a fallacious thing to taunt about
August 31st, 2011 at 2:19 PM ^
No, it says 8-1, as well as all other numbers reflecting only 9 seasons. We aren't Kentucky, gosh.
August 31st, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
compared to the obvious number of in-breds that follow tsio, that accept a head coach that lies, cheats and essentially thinks he can do whatever the fuck he wants ... as long as he wins. Exactly the same mindset of tsio's AD and President ...
Enjoy your future "smack down" from both the NCAA and the U of M!

OSU scandal Hall of Fame with Woody Hayes, Earl Bruce, and Jim Tressel.

That Michigan let them all have winning records against the Wolverines.
I wish people would just let it go. The season is here, let's do our talking on the field.

That's great. They can put Compliance behind it and carry on.
August 31st, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
...the guy knowingly and willfully played ineligible players so he can keep winning. He deliberately broke the rules (and I feel he has been doing this his entire coaching career, but he just NOW got caught) and his former program will get a pretty bad punishment soon for his actions, yet he gets a wall dedicated to him at Ohio. That just doesn't compute with this Wolverine.
I'd love to see that wall still go up if Tressel were .500 or less against Michigan.
August 31st, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
the wall would be the one where the John Cooper urinal is located!

August 31st, 2011 at 5:08 PM ^
Michigan got caught cheating (cheating that actually helped on-field performance) during the RR years. When you lose 80% of your conference games nobody cares that you were cheating.
August 31st, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
So telling recruits to come to your school because they'll get improper benefits doesn't help on-field performance?
September 1st, 2011 at 3:42 AM ^
Yes, Tressel broke the rules and so did some of their players. The players violated the rules but didn't gain some edge that helped them on the field. They made mistakes and Tressel made a huge mistake. But if Tressel had done what he should have done and reported the lawyer's email to compliance, they still would have beaten Michigan for the seventh year in a row and nine out of 10.
But there is no evidence they used the tattoo parlor as a recruiting advantage. Have any OSU recruits who signed at Michigan or elsewhere said that OSU tried to sell them on tattoos or anything else?
I haven't heard a single OSU player or non-OSU player who was recruited by the Buckeyes say that.
Claiming they did without any evidence is ridiculous.
September 1st, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
it hard to believe stretching contributed to an on field advantage. Unless "stretching" somehow turned out to be performance enhancing drugs. SPOILER ALERT: It wasn't performance enhancing drugs.
August 31st, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
This is extremely telling about the integrity of that college (it can no longer be considered a "university"), in my opinion. I can't imagine Michigan would ever do something like this. If it did, I would be very embarrassed of my alma mater. The more I think about it, it makes me sick that OSU is even considering something like this, especially WHILE the investigation is ongoing!
August 31st, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
Is it really necessary to insult colleges like that?
August 31st, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Do they honor Charles Woodson & his heisman? Do they honor the 97 NC? He cheated. He was ineligible for the NC game.

a wall of shame?
August 31st, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
This actually has the potential to be a hilarious situation if the NCAA decides to make them vacate more than last year. I know, I know - it sure seems like the Miami situation put TSIO on the back-burner of the NCAA and the media, but the investigation isn't over until it is over
August 31st, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
I often wonder if Tressel had committed muirder if the highly educated fans of Ohio would have still made him a saint and said he just had a bad day.
August 31st, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
Well, everybody murders, y'know...
Besides, if Tressel did it, it would have been an "obvious case of self-defense" and the police "only made a big deal out of it because they are out to get THE Ohio State University.".
August 31st, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
"The Wall" sort of fits as a nice symbol and anthem for Tressel and his boys, Clarrett, Pryor et al--as in "we don't need no education," and "hey, [NCAA], leave those kids alone." Just give us those tattoos.
August 31st, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
I was thinking that they gave him a long marble wall on which the names of ineligible players, players who accepted gifts and money, and zero-down offers on cars were engraved.
August 31st, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
Like the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial? Sorry, I don't get the joke/reference/analogy you're trying to make.
August 31st, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
Thanks for stating what that picture was because I honestly had NO idea what it was. I guess I'm ignorant.
I was aware of there being such a wall, just never seen it I guess...especially an aerial shot.

,,,to put alongside Touching the Banner and Howard's Rock, as one by one each OSU player prepares for his Saturday walk from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to the Horseshoe by beating his head against Tressel's Wall.

That's odd. I thought they already built a giant wall of secrecy and deceit.
huh.

heard about the Wall and got very, very excited. Hamilton, Ohio. Where else?

folks are surprised they dedicated a wall to Tressel? Dude the most celebrated man in OSU football history got fired for punching a kid on an opposing team on national T.V and they still love Woody
