Troy and Donovan

There has been a lot of hand-wringing about the DBs that got away or didn't pan out - Cissoko, Turner, Dorsey, Smith, Vlad, Witty - and there is nothing more annoying as a general theme than, "What If...?"

Buuuut, I have to indulge in one "What If...?" because these guys didn't leave the team or fail.

What if Donovan Warren didn't go pro and Troy was healthy? Can you imagine how just those two Michigan men would have transformed this defense? What would be our potential?

Great question. Answer is I don't think anyone knows. I follow Jets news daily and unfortunately this is the last I heard (from Sep 9). When we signed him I thought it was the steal of the draft and was sure he would be a solid addition to our impressive db corps andI was really psyched that my team added another WolverJet.

Donovan Warren 5’11″ 192 was initially signed to the practice squad.  At one point Warren was considered a top CB prospect, however, his poor speed numbers at the combine and his pro day put to rest any talk of him being a high draft pick.  The Jets signed the former Wolverine with the hopes of moving him to safety, but lingering ankle issues and concussion problems kept him from seeing the field this preseason.  The team has since deleted him from the practice squad.  It is possible that his concussion issues made him a “safe” cut, meaning that other teams would not want to sign him because he is currently unable to practice.http://www.jetnation.com/2010/09/09/who-is-on-the-jets-practice-squad/

Last I checked Donovan Warren left the Michigan wolverines to try his hand out as a draft pick. That's leaving the team.

Sorry but I don't give Warren a second thought. He walked out on the program, his teammates, and his coach.  He took for granted the opportunity he was given to secure a first class college degree. And he did so knowing full well his draft prospects were not exactly good...It's one thing if you are a projected first or second round talent but that wasn't the case with DW. He simply wanted out and he didn't believe the team would get better this year. As far as I'm concerned he is a cautionary tale...

Some of you will think I'm being too harsh but I don't think I am. I wish the kid the best but I was very dissapointed with the decision he made.

It's not that dumb. It got me counting my blessings because for every hypothetical situation in which this team is better there is another in which this team is worse. For instance:

What if...Molk broke his foot again and we didn't have a Rimington candidate at that position?

What if...Hemingway gacks that pass last week and we had to trot out Brockhuezenvonweezen? (Don't say overtime. Mr. Weezen would have been blocked-returned-for touchdown. You know this.)

What if...Mike Martin had gone out before week one with an esophagus due to his steady offseason diet of raw steel?

What if...Shavodrick Beaver sticks around and scares Denard away?

I understand when you say you need kickoff. Me too. I'm mostly an insomniac anyway. But try with me to dream sweet dreams of Robinson at the second level with a three-foot crease in between Greg Jones and the Spartan safety. Actually, that's a bad tactic; that thought fills me with too much joy to be soothing. But you catch my drift.

What if Cam Gordon had tackled Kyle Rudolph at, say, our 20, allowing ND to burn clock before scoring?

What if Kovacs hadn't whiffed on that tackle, and allowing IU to score with less time - and Lynch had decided to go for 2?

Because I called my brother earlier tonight to talk about tomorrows game, and believe it or not, one of the things we talked about was this exact same thing.

I'm just glad I decided to call my brother to talk about it instead of starting this thread.

Flush twice - it's a long way to Columbus.

FWIW I don't think it's a particularly stupid thread, Meeechigan Dan. People just don't want to think about it/be reminded.
