I read this article and it was posted on the homepage but i'll post it again. In the article it says that the teams recruiting him the hardest are Ohio State, Alabama, and Notre Dame. So my question is do you guys think that RichRod isn't trying hard enough for a very good recruit, at a position of need, who grew up a Michigan fan? http://crimsonconfidential.com/news/articles/2010/4/9/depriest-1

Of course I think Rich Rod isn't trying hard enough, he is obviously trying to drive him away because he has too many stars. Use your head for more than a place to hang a hat.

Every recruit that Rich Rod isn't recruiting harder than every other school, he's trying to drive away? It's entirely possible that those schools are just recruiting him harder. I realize what you were trying to do with your post, but let's try and cut back the sarcasm a little bit. I just feel like this is a blog where intelligent discussions regarding Michigan football should be had and the OP brings up a topic that is worth that discussion. To think that Rich Rod is recruiting every recruit that we think he should be harder than any other school is just absurd and naive. He legitimately may not be recruiting Trey Depriest as heavily as other recruits on his board for reasons that he and his staff are well aware of. For the record, I think that Rich Rod and his staff are going hard after Depriest, but again, there may be other recruits that they're just focusing their attention on more while he may be at the top of Alabama's recruiting board.

...that Rich Rod was being lazy. I'm not quite sure how you took that from anything I said. I said just the opposite in fact. I was saying that Rich Rod and his staff may not have Trey Depriest at the top of their recruiting board, whereas other teams might have. Rich Rod and his staff know what they're doing and know who they think can help their team the best. They may not have him at the top of their recruiting board for any number of reasons. Maybe there are character issues there that they see, maybe they like another linebacker more, maybe they are just recruiting other positions (like the O-line) harder. There are any number of reasons that they coaching staff could be focusing their efforts elsewhere b/c they think that it will be more beneficial to the program. Just b/c we think that U of M should be going all out for Trey Depriest doesn't mean that the coaching staff actually should. They know better than us.

They're recruiting him plenty hard. His coach said a few weeks ago that Michigan is recruiting him a little differently than other schools are, but that doesn't mean that they aren't putting in the effort.

Note the source. The headline also thinks they have a shot at Braxton Miller, which just isn't the case.

Maybe RichRod has talked to the kid and has realized he has no chance. Now, I know, I know, Rich always gives up way too quickly on kids and never feels like he can pull an upset. That's why Michael Shaw and Roy Roundtree and Denard Robinson and Demar Dorsey didn't commit to Michigan. If he can tell it's a lost cause, there's no point. He has a much closer view than we do, and that's my guess about what's going on.

Roy Roundtree and Michael Shaw were both recruited before Michigan started losing and were receiving no interest prior to Rich Rod coming on board, Denard Robinson was never an upset in the first place as Michigan was one of his top schools since Rich Rod started recruiting him, and Demar Dorsey was never an upset either as he never even received any interest from Michigan until Michigan found out that he was interested in them through his connections with Denard and Gardner... Those are just poor examples to use as they don't apply to your argument. But I do agree with you that Rich Rod probably is not recruiting Trey Depriest as hard b/c he recognizes that there are other places where his recruiting efforts could benefit the program more. A coach only has so much time to recruit and if he thinks that spending more time on other players of need would be more beneficial then that's the way he's going to go.

Braxton Miller is going to Ohio State. He is better than Terrelle Pryor as a sophomore in HIGH SCHOOL than Terrelle was as a Sophomore in COLLEGE IMO. It's going to be interesting watching Gardner vs. Miller

I've heard from articles that we are anywhere from "recruiting him harder than anyone" to "not one of the schools heavily recruiting him" and everywhere in between. Let's see if he comes. If he does, it doesn't matter how hard we recruited him, and if he doesn't, I guess it still doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Either way, none of us will probably know how much time we spent on him. He's one of the top players in the country, and he showed early interest in us. I'm willing to bet RR knows how to handle this one.
