Trey Burke recognized as Western Conference Rookie of the Month (3rd-time)

SALT LAKE CITY (April 18, 2014) – The NBA announced today that Utah Jazz guard Trey Burke has been named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games played during the month of April, marking the third month he has won the award.

Having already been recognized as the recipient in both December and January, Burke (6-1, 190, Michigan) became the first player in franchise history to win multiple Rookie of the Month awards. Karl Malone was named NBA Rookie of the Month in December 1985, the only previous monthly rookie honor for the Jazz. The award, which has been given monthly since the 1981-82 season, was originally the NBA Rookie of the Month before splitting into Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month in 2001-02.

It's difficult to not speculate whether Trey's increasingly well-rounded play would be getting more hype if he was playing in a larger TV market.  It seems most pundits have already handed the ROY award to Michael Carter-Williams, which is understandable considering MCW stats.  That said, I'm curious to see some of the (unbiased /s) arguments on this board as to why Trey may be more deserving.

It has been great to see Trey not really miss a step in his transition between college and the pros, showing that his presence and his game literally will improve a team all around. I also wonder if the level of hype would be greater if he was playing in a larger market, but the point to me is that he is getting some great recognition regardless - again, something that helps Michigan in a way.

the hype would be off the charts, but it's possible that the relative anonymity of playing in SLC might provide some advantages in terms of fewer distractions and fewer people blowing smoke up his ass, which no rookie ever benefits from.

Once Utah trades up (or gets a lucky draw in the lottery) to get Jabari Parker, the Jazz could have a couple of nice young players moving forward.

Also, and no disrespect to Trey, but wow this rookie class sucked. I just remembered that Anthony Bennett was the #1 and Otto Porter (!!!) was the #3. Holy moly...

What Dumars didnt account for was the intangible asset that Burke got while with Beilein...thst he will improve each year, as he was set on that course. We are becoming a well respected NBA factory.

I've got to watch a few of his games and he is just so smart on the court. More of a pure PG in the league, he's improved his facilitating so much. But he can also get you 20 when he has to. Trey will be a good player in the league for a long time!
