Trey Burke on ESPN Radio

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

Doesn't know much about SDSU beyond the PG - will scout today and tomorrow to prepare for Thursday

Thinks 4 seed is fine despite UM having been ranked at #1 at one point. Allows team to play with a chip on their shoulder. Alluded to pressure impacting young team.

Rebounding from losses - same goal in mind, backs against the wall. Learned from losses and grown from them. Each loss was a learning experience that helped mature the team. Will fuel the team to make a run.

Plays with a chip on his shoulder due a lack of recruitment out of high school. Makes an impact every game.

Considers Indiana, Ohio State and Wisconsin to "have the pieces needed" to make it to the Final Four when pressed on who the Big Ten's best chances lie.

Difficult road in bracket - no easy round in any region. Trying not to look ahead and instead take each game game-by-game. Have what it takes, just need to execute.

Asked what traits of his are game changers: His style of game made up in his desire and will to win, which comes out at the end of games. Type of guy who can score, get into the paint and get others involved.

Three Weeks from Right Now, Michigan will be _____ : Still Playing
One year from now, Trey Burke will be _____ : Don't know, needs to talk to family and coaching

Received a lot of credit from the personalities for being polite and high quality - sure he's gone.

Yah, I mean, nobody knows these teams like the players themselves.  Somehow I feel that the best point guard in the nation has a better feel for teams' strengths and weaknesses than JimBobTressel, especially after playing them twice.

Er...that intensity was less Wisconsin being impressive than us being unable to string together the most basic defensive effort.

...just because I don't think he wants to be here anymore. BUT, I do think there's a very small chance that if he were to get really close in lose, both he and THJ may decide to make one more run at it.

It may be a 1% chance, but I could see it happening. I know the Burke family (along with the Jackson's and Sullinger's) and they don't need the money or anything. They're not rich, but they could suffice (from what you see on the outside looking in, obviously I wouldn't know if there was a sick grandma or something).

Anyway, I'm still hoping for my fairytail that we beat Louisville, Gonzaga or Ohio in the Championship Game and our boys ride off into the sunset.

My last comment regarding Trey is I hope he gets back to having fun. I was thinking about this during the Wisconsin game when he was yelling at McGary (which I thought was fine)...when was the last time you saw Trey Burke smile? Even in wins like MSU, he was so FIRED UP! He was waving his hands, he was slapping the floor, it was ME vs. THE WORLD.

I think Burke is SO much better when he's relaxed, playing within himself and having fun. His persona this year reminds me of LeBron 2 years ago when he wanted to be the villan...it's just not him.

ENJOY IT TREY! GO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP BABY!

weariness in his interviews yesterday. If the team gets through the first two games, maybe the fire will increase. Don't want to make excuses for them. . . but not a lot of wild confidence there, at least right now. It's a problem with sports and fandom, because most seasons--for most people--end in disappointment, and our hopes were sky-high.

Scott Van Pelt has a saying that he ALWAYS uses...he says, "how good is YOUR good?"

Our good is Elite and we've seen that. In fact, I think the only team in the country that has a better "good" than us, is Indiana.

That said, we haven't played with confidence, energy or a fire in quite some time. We haven't seen our "good" since we played @ IU. And remember, that was without J-Mo.

If we play how we played in the 2nd half vs. Iowa, or the first half vs. Northwestern or pretty much the entire game @IU (with J-MO)...we can beat anyone.

This interiew was on "Coach & Company" - the link to the podcast is here (LINK)

Trey's interview starts around the 29-minute mark. If you would like to hear the entire thing, they do interview Travis Releford from Kansas in an earlier segment.

Nothing we can do about it but enjoy the fact he came back for this year. He came back because of an early tournament exit last time, let's hope he gets his fill this year, then we can get excited about the D. Walton era.

However, I would love to see THJr and GR3 back for another go.

It's been so much fun watching him play these past two years. No matter how many games he has left in a Michigan uniform, I'll enjoy watching him play.

do I have the nagging feeling that this team is not the slightest bit interested right now?

Should I be concerned that I had this same feeling last year?
