Trey Burke with eight points, four assists, four rebounds at the end of Utah v. Indiana

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

Title nearly says it all.  Trey was 3-15 from the field (starting 3-5 and then missing his last ten shots), 0-5 from three (with all of those attempts coming in the second half), and 2-2 from the line.  He only had one turnover and played 26 minutes.

OK, I love Trey as much as everyone else, but do we really need a thread about his stats for every game?

This is very similar to an entire thread discussing how Denard is fairing in practice drills.  Trey love gave way to Trey obsession the moment the Pistons passed him up.

It is the offseason, and when I saw this thread, I thought about how awesome it was that we have people on this board dedicated to not letting us forget about those who have taken our program to heights which haven't been reached in a few decades. If this never ends I will be a happy man

No one is going to forget TMFB, but it's pretty silly to have a thread that announces every time he makes a free throw. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, "then don't click on it" or "don't read the thread." That's not the point.

New people have ideas and questions too.  Usually they are dumb ones like "how do I get more points?" and "why don't we have more half-naked women in posts?", but you can't make an omelette without breaking hundreds of unnecessarily whiny eggs.

That said, I'm fine with the Burke love being turned down from full slobber to simple heavy petting.

OK, I love Trey as much as everyone else, but do we really need some guy to click on a perfectly named thread that is quite obviously about Trey for the sole purpose of bitching about said thread?

It's not like you got into this thread by accident. If you're not interested in Trey's summer league games, dont click on the thread about Trey's summer league games

Trey will be on The Jim Rome Show today, which is news worthy (not his stats from some stupid summer league game).

I think he shot 8-40 in the three games he played.  Fortunately - and I only saw the first two games - his problems looked to me to be as much about being uncomfortable as they did about playing against taller, faster guys.  His lack of familiarity with his teammates - and vice versa - was really evident.

3-15 shooting. He has really been struggling to find his shot in the summer league. For all the hate and laughter pointed at Peyton Siva's way, he has been every bit the play maker and defender Burke has been in the summer league (granted, summer league) minus all of the awful shots.

I mean, if you think about it, anyone who has watched all of the summer league games would say that Peyton Siva has arguably out played Burke in the summer league, but he isn't going to make the Pistons, so what does that say about  Joe Dumars' selection of KCP?

Plus, KCP had another really good game today.

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

He's just been shooting the ball awkwardly, like he's trying to force better form. It's been a mental struggle from him, although he shows flashes of the Trey we all know.

I agree. I actually don't give a shit what Trey does in summer league games...summer league man. But I admit I click on the thread just to see if there's any back and forth bitching about wether or not Joe D made the right decision in drafting KCP. To be honest though, in July the only sports I really care about is Tigers baseball.

Not too worried. I don't think Trey will ever be an All Star, but I think he'll be a solid player in the NBA with a decently long career because he has such a great work ethic. Anyone expecting him to be "the man" will be disappointed IMO. I think he is just gonna struggle to get decent shots off around the lane. Will still have his jumper and can put up decent assist numbers. He'll do us proud.

I'd be fine if these threads were just about Trey Burke the player and following his nascent pro career, but inevitably they devolve into people bitching about Dumars passing on Burke because the hive mind here just won't let it go.  Burke will be fine in the pros, and summer league tells you virtually nothing about how a player will perform during the regular season, but I'd love if we could all move beyond this point and focus on something relevant, like pet pigs and how heavy 18-year-old boys are.
