Trey Burke AP POY!!
You knew it was coming...

Edit: Title updated
There are several more player of the year awards still to be announced. So far, he's won the Sports Illustrated and the AP (this one) POY awards, plus Big Ten POY and MOP of the South Regional, not to mention being a consensus All-American and winning the Cousy Award earlier today.
Michigan's press release says he's the second Wolverine to win the AP POY award, Cazzie Russell being the first.
Burke becomes just the second Wolverine in program history to receive the award, joining U-M legend Cazzie Russell, who also earned the nation's top honor from the AP in 1966.
Nice trophy! (photo tweeted by Rod Beard)
Mr. ALL Everything. Gotta love it.
Alfonso is really racking up the awards. He'll be on the NCAA All-Tournament team regardless of what happens in the Final Four. That's a fact.
IMO, his jersey HAS to be retired next to Cazzie at this point. Second AP player of the year here.
Interestingly, Burke's number is "half" that of Cazzie's -- Burke's 3 to Cazzie's 33.
Well, I would say Burke is 1/10 of Cazzie, but to each his own.
I think you might be overestimating Burke a bit.
Really... it is 1/11th. C'mon man!
Seems more like 1/11.
Well deserved.
Does he have room for all these awards??
Congrats Trey!
When are the naismith and wooden awards announced?
Wooden Award tomorrow April 5 at 11:15am ET
Naismith Award (by the Atlanta Tipoff Club jus' sayin') on Sunday April 7
Finalists are Burke, McDermott, Otto Porter, and Oladipo.
4/7 and 4/12 respectively.
Wooden Award winner is announced 4/5. Gala honoring winners (men's, women's, high school, coach) will be held on 4/12.
Ahhh, you are correct, thanks for pointing this out.
Imagine telling your professor: "I'm really sorry, but I can't take the test on Friday. The thing is, I've kind of got to accept this national award for being the best player in the country."
What an incredible young man! Go Blue!!
Well deserved. I was hoping he'd win as it's great not only for him but also for the program. Based on the first place votes it doesn't look like it was even that close of race.
It seems like the Heisman Trophy winners don't often do well in their bowl games. Here's hoping that doesn't hold true for the POY in the tourney.
Way to go Trey!
I think he's done OK for himself in the tourney.
Great news. Well deserved. Now hopefully a title to complete this season.
Good job Trey..stay focused 2 more games baby 2 more games.
Posbang.
It might be easier to list the awards that Burke won't win.
Um...
...Hobey Baker?
I think the Wooden award (the REAL player of the year award) is being awarded very soon. While these other awards are great, we want the Wooden award.
not just the best player, but so humble and team focused. A great kid!!
What a great honor to be able to watch him play at least one more game. Puts things in perspective to learn that only Cazzie Russell has accomplished the same.
Just in case you're reading . . . Congratulations, Trey!

How often is there a consensus on all 4 awards? Is it usually split?
Take a look at page 10+ of the NCAA Award Winners publication. It has the winners of the more than half dozen major POY awards (through 2011).
This year, Otto Porter Jr. already won the Basketball Times award, and Oladipo won the Sporting News'.
Just a couple threads down, here we were talking about how Trey has been winning some major award or getting a first-team nomination about every two years, and now, he get the Cousy and the AP Player Of The Year in the same day. Awesome stuff, and once again, congratulations to Trey Burke!
It really has been an honor to watch him play both on TV and, on several occasions, in person. It will be a long, long time before his presence on the court for Michigan is forgotten, if ever, and that as it should be.
WOOOOOOOT! We knew, but then again, you really never know how voting will go. People tend to have really dumb bias when it come to these things (see, Johnny Heisman). Really proud of him and our entire team and coaching staff. The fans are pretty damn cool too! ;)
If he does leave I would not want to be the NBA GM that passed on him. Not a strong draft and could be the next Chris Paul.
Just like T.J. Ford in the Final Four in 2003.
Is there a "most prestigeous" player of the year award? Like the Heisman or the Hobey?
The Wooden Award.
What do you base that on? The NCAA itself calls the Naismith the most prestigious:
The Naismith Trophy, the most prestigious honor in college basketball, annually recognizes the top men’s and women’s college players in the nation.
I'm not sure it's possible to say that one of the awards is more prestigious than all the others. The Naismith is older than the Wooden, but the first to be awarded was actually what is now called the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
