Tressel Interviewing With Akron

Submitted by CRex on

Via Lost Letterman. They're reporting Tressel will interview with Akron today or tomorrow. They have a HC vacancy and are looking to hire. I'm not sure why on earth they'd touch Tressel, but what do I know.

Perhaps this is just to employ him as a consultant in the search, not as a candidate.

Edit:  An interesting point I found while on the Akron football page is they recycled Faust after his poor showing at ND.  So it's not unprecendent for them to take on a big name with issues.

is an exclusive interview with Jim Tressel upon being hired at Akron:

(turns to assistant) Where the hell am I?

Assistant: Akron

Tressel: Ahh yes, Akron. The Bobcats, right?

Assistant: Um, no, the Zips

Tressel: What the hell is...oh nevermind. Ladies and gentleman, I can assure you that you will be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community and most especially in 310 days in *turns to assistant again and whispers* who is our biggest rival? Kent State? Ok then. Most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michi...er I mean, in Kent, Ohio, on the football field.

Assistant: Ok, it's time to leave.

Tressel: *whispers* ok, time to get out of here *loudly* AND PAY SOME KIDS TO TURN THIS SHITTY TEAM AROUND

Assistant: Sigh

Tressel: Damnit, did I just say the loud part quiet and the quiet part loud? Back to the NFL for me! Sell the blue and gold sweater vests.

for Akron.  Let's face it, it's the MAC.  Who cares that he is close to retirement.  The good young coaches leave these MAC teams quickly anyways.  No one has better contacts in OH than Tressel.  Look around the MAC and you'll see empty stadiums everywhere.  Akron will sell tickets no doubt.

However, Sweater Vest would be doing this for the love of the game.  Because he would be making a fraction of what he was at Ohio.

No, damnit.  No.  This can't happen.

Both my parents grew up in Akron.  My dad went to Akron.  I was born in Akron and lived there until I was two.  All my grandparents lived in Akron when I was a kid and I went there a couple of times a year (holidays, summer, etc).  I have all these great memories of Akron and I always like to see the Zips do well (though they never do).  I will even give a cheer if the Stadium announcer gives the Akron score.

Now they are going to hire Tressel?  How can I cheer for the Zips if the Vest is coaching there?  This. Can't. Happen.
