Tremendous Interview with Kugler

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Over at Tremendous there is a great interview with PATRICK KUGLER.  He has given very few interviews, and this one is a very nice read. You can see why Patrick is such a critical recruit, and why he is rated so highly. Having a father coaching OL in the NFL and a brother playing in the Big 10 puts him way ahead of the pack in football intelligence. Kugler is one of those guys, like Molk and Kovacs, who have an edge and will play way beyond what might be expected.

Here is an insightful quote that shows Kugler's maturity and understanding of what is involved in playing center at Michigan:

Tremendous: The belief is that you are Michigan's center of the future. How do you prepare yourself mentally knowing you might be called upon earlier in your career than maybe the other guys in the class?

Patrick: I know every kid wants to get on the field as early as they can, but I am really looking forward to redshirting. Center is a difficult position and I want to use that year to develop a college-ready body and learn the system as best I can so that when I am called upon I am ready to go from the start.

This is a long interview, but if you're starved for info, it is well worth the time to read it.

Great to see a kid mature beyond his years.  Looking forward to him calling the plays for the lines of the future.  As to who'll play C in 2013 while he (hopefully) redshirts....that I don't know...

I just realized while Mattison was in Baltimore he was basically coaching directly against Patrick's dad in one of the greatest rivalries in the league.  It would have been interesting to hear his take on that.  First the elder Kugler battled Mattison in the NFL, and now the younger Kugler will in practice.  It sounds like this guy is cut from the same rusty iron as a certain head bashing center we all know and love.  I'm psyched.

Great interview.  Patrick is a very intelligent player and seems destined to be a great center at Michigan.  His dad used to coach at Boise, and Petersen there called him the best coach he ever had on his staff.  One thing that we probably wont have to worry about with Patrick is technique.

Patrick is the kind of student athlete we want at Michigan . . . intelligent, tough, football smart and a leader. Hopefully, he will help us open a pipeline into his high school which has traditionally been a feeder school to Penn State.

I feel like with every new interview, and every new recruit, I can't help but comment on what well-rounded mature kids we seem to be recruiting. In three or four years this will hopefully be evident in both player retention and team leadership. In Hoke we trust!
