Today has been depressing with the loss to Ohio. I don't have the heart to jump into or even read all the second-guessing threads.
However, here's a brighter note: LaQuon Treadwell is a State Champion. More specifically, the Crete-Monee Warriors won the 6A football championship game earlier this evening in Champaign.
Here are a few quotes:
The highly coveted, 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver/linebacker broke loose for two long scoring plays, and he intercepted a Cary-Grove pass deep in his own territory to spark the Warriors to a 33-26 victory.
“He is tremendous, as good as advertised, maybe even better,” Cary-Grove linebacker Zach Marszal said of Treadwell. “He’s got the speed, the size. He’s just a phenomenal football player. There are reasons he’s so highly talked about.”
Treadwell fumbled the ball in the 3rd quarter, but then recovered on the next play with an interception. Here are a few details:
“I kind of figured they were going to try to hit us with something we weren’t expecting,” Treadwell said. “Once I saw (Marszal) release, I knew it wasn’t a normal release. I kind of paused for a second to adjust to the run, but once I saw him run out, I knew the ball was coming that way and I just attacked the ball.”
“He made some plays that we’ve never seen people make,” Cary-Grove coach Brad Seaburg said of Treadwell. “The interception he made in the third quarter was pretty unbelievable. He was up at the line of scrimmage, then dropped underneath our out route and made a play.”
I'm looking forward to seeing Michigan compete against Ohio once our OL is seasoned, and we've added a few talented skill players (like Green and Treadwell.)
