This may be a blessing in disguise.  He may end up being a great player and that's fine.  Michigan will do just fine without him.  He will probably be ''The Man'' at Ole Miss, I followed him on Twitter for awhile and he seems to be the type of kid that's all about the glitz and glamour.  If that's true, maybe he didn't think he would get the attention he wants at Michigan.  We may never know, but I won't miss him that's for sure.

Too much hostility here. Congrats to Treadwell for choosing that and where he'll attend college. He gets to play with a childhood friend in what's obviously an excellent conference. We'll probably see him in the NFL one day.
Michigan will be fine. Our last couple receiving classes, though not ideal, aren't as awful as some of you imply. They just look weak compared to our stellar recruiting elsewhere. If you believe that football teams should be built from WRs in, I know a former Lions GM whom you'd find brilliant.

Different perspectives, I guess.  I can't understand going online and posting a "suck it, you'll regret this" message to a harmless 17-year-old kid who decided to attend a college that doesn't host your favorite football team.

Ideally, I wouldn't feel the need to write a "congrats"/"too much hostility here" message, but it's sometimes nice to convey that not every Michigan fan shares the perspective that's most often posted.

Nice announcement. He'll remember team#134 when they bring home the bacon and Ole miss watches bowl games from home. Cant remember Ole Miss actually winning a SEC championship let alone a string of games. Shaking my head and cant figure out. Coaches know best but damn lets stay away from Crete Monee lol.

Treadwell & Standifer would have been 2 good additions. Hopefully UM can land Morgan for 2014 and break the Crete Monee drought (which also means Crete better get their transcript & paperwork issues resolved).

No matter where a player goes, if he has talent he will show it and move on to NFL.. Sometimes good players like being in avg teams so that way they stand out more.

Normally I just say "to each his own" and move on but this one I really don't get. This kid could have played anywhere. I get the sundresses notion, but it if that's all he cared about then he could have done better overall at USC, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, etc. This one is a head-scratcher.

and he's not even from Mississippi to give it the 'hometown school' thing. He could've probably gone to any BCS school he wanted to and he picked probably one of the 5 most pathetic. Strange choice. I expect that the next time I hear his name is when he's a 4th round draft back in 4-5 years

He was close to verbally committing in July by his own admission. Spent a lot of time with Shane at the Opening. After a bunch of weeks he claims the UM coaches haven't contacted him much and he wasn't feeling the love. This staff wouldn't relent in their recruiting, let alone the #1 WR, unless they had a reason. ND also cooled on his recruitment even after UM was sliding.

Yeah, people are usually too quick to drag out the "the coaches didn't want him anymore/we cooled on him" rhetoric but there does appear to be at least some validity to the notion that UM and a few other schools (e.g. the schools with good academic traditions) did in fact "cool" on Treadwell.

Supposedly, Standifer was basically encouraged to de-commit last year because of academics and it would not surprise me if the same thing happened with Treadwell as his final three schools are not exactly academic powerhouses with Ole Miss being one of the worst schools in the country in that regard.

coaches at a Chicago HS about 20 miles from Crete-Monee and he stated the "academic readiness" is an issue (it's known by league coaches) and probably just as much a school faulure as an individual shortcoming.

The school is reputedly poor at prepping these kids and deficient with student records.

UM isn't right for everyone for a bunch of reasons.  Onward.

with a legacy of racism. George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door at the University of Alabama in 1963 in an attempt to prevent the integration of that august institution, and that didn't prevent Vivian Jones and James Hood from enrolling, even though they certainly were aware of the open and virulent hostility of the majority of their white classmates and Tuscaloosa residents. If they were able to deal with it, I wouldn't expect that guys like Standifer or Treadwell would be frightened away from Mississippi. Racism is obviously still around, but it's a far cry from the days when the Klan operated openly without any opposition.

Whatever happened with him, I saw that he was still waiting for an Oregon offer that has yet to come, and didn't look like he committed anywhere.  Top notch track speed and an athletic wide receiver sounds like a good combo to me.

I know treadwell didnt pick michigan because of other reasons...

but the thing i am interested to know is whats really stopping elite receivers from coming to michigan.....although i am not an expert ...i see elite WRs not chosing us under 2 regimes now...(although its too early with hoke)

is it because elite WRs are a clan who generally tend to be not that high on academics?

or is there a systemic problem?

the experts please chime in......

In michigan we really havent recruited any "elite" receivers, the ones that became great put in a lot of work and were taught properly... Latest good example is Braylen who came as a 3 star ( correct me if im wrong on this), but in other words he wasnt a number 1 receiver. He came to michigan and became one of the greatest.. Its all about putting in the work and listening to ur coaches. Got to have discipline
