Treadwell to announce thursday (no Michigan)

@TomVH: Confirmed that WR Laquon Treadwell will be announcing his decision on Thursday at 5 between Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Too bad I thought he would be the next #1.

Of course Hoke does well. He gets them early. But he can't close the last of his targets. It happened last year, it's happening again this year.
I'll be (happily) surprised of D. Green actually does commit to us. Then we won't be shut out of the Treadwell/Green/Mcquay sweepstakes.

You're just focusing on the negative. So we didn't get Diamond or Garnet last year at the end but, we still had one awesome OL recruiting class.
Just like this year we wont get Treadwell and we didnt pull Mcquay.... Have you seen the rest of this class! If we get Green yea thats awesome but that wont make or break this Class by any stretch.

With the increasing probability that the nation's best wide reciever is headed to OLE MISS, I had a fascinating idea last night as I was falling asleep. Chris Hansen. Dateline NBC. A "To Catch a Predator" college booster edition.
How fascinating would this be? I mean you could have a "recruit" aka decoy, fabricate some elite highlight tapes, entice boosters to provide additional benefits, and get it all on tape. I imagine the logistics would be hard to work out but who wouldn't be interested in something like this?
Why don't you have a seat over there, Mr. Millionaire who just offered De'Ontreshon McDowell $20,000 to play at Auburn?

other than that maybe Ol' Miss, Okie St, Oklahoma have more better looking girls, Michigan makes all the sense in the world: (1) better academicall; (2) reputation wise, currently a better program (Oklahoma is a bit down) and historically, and on the rise; (3) a desperate need for the-it-guy at WR; (4) an incoming top QB with an upcoming monster O-line; (5) nicer campus; etc. etc. Maybe he is looking for a VERY passer friendly offense and feels that at Michigan he would not get the ball as much as he would like to pad his stats, and consequently throw a TO....

There isn't a real superstar receiver in this class like there have been in recent years. Would have been nice to get Treadwell, but I like the focus on recruiting in the trenches and possibly picking up a bad ass RB and a big play threat in Green and Larue, respectively. Like I said, Treadwell would be an awesome get, but he is not far above many of the other receivers in this class. All I am saying is that it's not a huge loss.

I am sure we would all love a 5* WR, RB, and QB in the same class. It is really a shame we cooled on him or he cooled on us. He came so close to committing so many times. Best of luck to him. If the coaches change their minds I am sure the snake oil is primed and ready.

Do we know that the Michigan coaching staff cooled on Treadwell, or did he cool on MIchigan for some reason?

Which one of those schools did his uncle get his job with? I'd lean toward him going there. And since when did Ole Miss become such a destination for all these players. Something definitely is fishy about that.

Ole Miss hasn't been good in a long time. Even when Manning was there they weren't great. They are in the lower part of the SEC. I just dont see why elite players would want to go there to play. To each their own I suppose.

Trying to look at it from a numbers perspective, Ole Miss threw the ball 411 tmes versus running it 551 time. They passed the ball 42.7% of the time. Their leading receiver, Donta Moncreif, had 66 receptions this past year. Moncrief was a 4 star recruit on Rivals and a top 150 player (130). The previous year, under Houston Nutt, Ole Miss threw the ball 40.5% of the time, so that could be a sign that they are taking a more aerial approach. It remains to be seen. Oklahoma threw 56.8% of the time this year. They had three receivers who had over 50 receptions with Kenny Stills leading the way with 82 receptions. Oklahoma State threw the ball 48.8% of the time. They had a recever with 100 catches.
Meanwhile, Michigan threw the ball 38.7% of the time this season. With Gardner at QB the last five games, Michigan threw the ball 41.0% of the time. Michigan will certainly throw the ball more as the team moves to a prostyle offense, but it's clear that Michigan will remain a run first offense. It isn't hard to see how a wide receiver will look at other options.

The #1 HS Receiver is going to think about where he has the best opportunity to be a human highlight reel game in and game out. The #1 HS Receiver is also a highly courted 18 year old jock, so if anything softens in that perspective the kid's going to move on.
When Shane Morris was winning summer accolades and Michigan was collecting 4 and 5 star recruits in pairs every other week, Laquon Treadwell saw a future of human highlight reels and alpha athletes surrounding him. Michigan matched his ego. But when Shane went down with mono and the recruiting quieted, so did Treadwell's interest.
Then 8-5 didn't help, either.
It's ok. We're taking a crack at the west-coast offense next year. We'll make it work because Devin Gardner will never be sacked with Lewan protecting his ass. We'll have a couple proven receivers who will make things happen and a couple froshes who will make some highlight reels of their own. Devin will make things happen when plays break down. Shane Morris will work hard to make the 2-deep, and a starting job in 2014 will depend on how hard he works for it.
It may not all fluidly come together right away, but if we stick with the system, I guarantee future #1 receivers won't cool on Michigan like Treadwell did. The allure of the Big House's big stage, and hey - a valuable diploma - will get us another Carter or Howard or Edwards in due time.
Laquon Treadwell has all the blessings in the world to be a fantastic Rebel, Cowboy or Sooner. We've got our Wolverines. That'll do.

It really IS bizarre...that we weren't able to land a top elite WR, considering the M tradition with the 1 jersey, and the need, and whats on the horizon. Maybe its gonna take Shane's 1st year for the top wrs to see whats coming.... but sheesh.... you'd think theyd be far more oracular. Lets hope Derrick Green is.
