Per MLive, Conlan, a former player and the director of operations for the U of M men's basketball team, has resigned in hopes of pursuing coaching oppurtunities elswhere. The position's opening was just posted online, and there is no word on where exactly Travis is headed or possible replacements for the position. I wonder if Novak would be interested in a new job...
Travis Conlan resigns from MBB
Yeah interesting that this came out this morning just when MLive did a story about Novak considering retirement from basketball. He seems like he would be a great addition to the basketball staff, whether at this position or perhaps if they bumped C.J. Lee up to Conlan's job and Novak took over whatever Lee is doing.
This is news is positive re: Bacari and Meyer sticking around for a few more years.
Why? Was there conflict between them and Conlan?
I think he's just saying that Conlan couldn't get an assistant position at Michigan without one of the current assistants leaving.
I don't agree with his "sticking around for a few more years" bit, however. All this means is that the staff will be intact for 2013-14. Beyond that? Who knows?
Duh . . . that makes more sense.
U-D has an assistant coach opening; that's one possible destination for Conlan:

I'm assuming he did a great job, well, because Bball and Crisler are awesome!!
Attended my high school and I can remember watching him when I was young. Great player overseas after his career at Michigan. Does a ton locally, still holding clinics, camps, etc. Hope he continues to do big things wherever he ends up. He is a true class act.
Nice to see a fellow Shorian at MGoBlog! I remember watching Travis almost single-handedly win a State Championship against East Grand Rapids. The game was going back and forth until Travis sunk one with time expiring. Great game. Good luck to him. Hope he finds a good gig somewhere.
I am hoping this means that Conlan will take a better position elsewhere. After all, the University of Michigan is a pretty good place to have on one's resume.
Travis went to my church, and played there during grade school. He took St. Margaret to back-to-back CYO runner-up finishes (back when the CYO was loaded with young talent, especially in the city of Detroit). Wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.
Bring Dugan on.
Clintondale Dragon myself and I remember playing again TC's oldest brother back in the day. Glad to see Travis doin good things!
then being able to watch and learn from the M coaching staff. Have we had a basketball coaching tree like we've had in football? Looks like it can now begin.
