Traveling to the Big Ten softball tournament

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

Anyone going to this? Am I going to be ok having a UM license plate covering on a state of Michigan license plate along with a University of Michigan sticker on the back window with two M stickers on the side windows? I also plan on wearing bright maize t-shirts like I do for any Michigan sporting event. I fully expect to have fuck Michigans hurled my way by the mouth breathers down in Ohio but my biggest concern is my car getting keyed or some drunk asshole becoming violent with me. Is this a legitimate thing to be cautious of in May or are the Buckeyes a milder breed this time of year?

Never been to any event down there, but there appears to be a huge parking lot directly adjacent to the field, and I'll go out on a limb and say their problem football fans probably don't have a lot of overlap with their softball fans.

I've been there many times for hockey and once for baseball and the worst thing that happens is some fans giving you grief for wearing maize and blue and the standard "Michigan sucks!" shouted at you.  I've never been for softball, and never there this late in the season, but I don't think it will be too troublesome.  There is a big parking area next to the main athletic campus, so your car should be safe.  I'll be heading down, and hopefully there will be a fairly good size contingent of Michigan fans just as there was in Evanston last year.  Plus, with OSU on the other side of the bracket (they are the 6th seed), Michigan may very well never even play them, so I don't expect many of their fans on hand when Michigan is playing (especially on Friday afternoon).

I'm a big Michigan fan and have been living in Columbus for 15 years. I go to a lot of the baseball and softball games wearing my jerseys, hats, etc.  99% of the fans are good natured - although they seriously love their buckeyes.  The minor sports are pretty mild. You'll get a few comments but also a few well wishes (even though they don't mean it).

The facilities are top notch on campus.  I'm hoping to catch them in the final.

The Buckeye fans may say something, but it will likely be good natured because the softball fans are a bit different (also the shoe is on the other foot because they know we are the dominant team). Two of my buddies have girls on the Buckeyes softball team and they are really good guys.
