Simple question: Do you think the Big X would ever kick a team out to make room for ND so that they wouldn't need to expand?
I was looking at proposed division layouts and realized that we already seem to have three 4-team divisions.
Michigan, MSU, OSU, PSU
Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, NW
Wisc, Minn, Iowa, Neb
The East and West divisions are obviously pretty strong, but the Central is filled with perpetual bottom-dwellers. If ND were to join the Big X, they would likely fit in this division, which would mean the Big X would need to bring in another team, 3 more teams, or kick a team out to have two even divisions. I think the first two have been talked about to death at this point, but I haven't heard any talk about relegating another team to the MAC.
I started to look at what those four teams offer. Purdue and Illinois are occasionally good at football, and are usually pretty good at basketball. NW hasn't been relevant in sports for a while, but they are one of the top schools in the conference.
Indiana, however, hasn't been relevant in any major sports for several years now, they have been at the bottom of the conference in football for who knows how long, and they are one of the weakest schools academically in the conference. It seems that they bring very little to the conference, yet get an equal share of the profits.
I'm not saying this will or should happen, but do you think that if Indiana continues down the path they are on right now, that the Big X could be thinking of this?
