TR3Y BURKE Appreciation Thread!

MOAR LOVE for Michigan !

Trey hit the game winner against the Magic.  He's had a few game winners already as a rook and he seems to be charging toward the end of the season!  He's got that killer attitude and is not afraid of missing a shot.

I hope he and GR3 will play together again in the near future !

This time of year belongs to Michigan ! GO BLUE!

To be fair, I'm still undecided. The coaching shitshow makes it impossible to judge the random scattered minutes KCP has received this season. Regardless, I think KCP will be a quality NBA player once he gets a decent coach and regular minutes. He has potential to be an elite defensive player and decent shooter. Whether he ends up better than Burke is impossible to tell now.

Co-Sign, especially the impossible to judge part.

Both are on shitty teams, Burke plays more on his so we know more about him (but could argue KCP can't get minutes on a shitty team so we know more about him aka he's bad, etc.), though not the full picture because those minutes are alongside shitty players.

That is essentially what I meant subjectively with my comment above. Add the word "happens" to the end and you get what was actually in my head when I was writing it, meaning that if Burke is an all star and KCP flames out people will still defend the pick. Was trying to point out people defend irrational things (for example, I bet you can find someone who will argue Hitler had a net positive impact on society or whaterver) and didn't intend to infer this particular opinion was irrational, even though the comment can be read as such.

Yea I got you. I'm pretty much undecided and hope they both do well obviously. I think KCP has actually earned more playing time, but Loyer is being dumb and insisting on playing veterans because we are not technically eliminated from the playoffs yet. I just hope he gives some burn to KCP ( and Siva for that matter) so the rookies don't rot at the end of the bench and have their development stunted.

Ahhhhh memories. The good old days of the debating the pro-Borges crew after football games this past fall. Good times.

Seriously though I honestly think the "glass is ALWAYS way more than half full guys" are simply hard wired to support whatever the administration does (or doesn't do) for teams they root for.

I can't speak for others but I definitely wanted Borges gone. I also want the Pistons to part ways with Dumars and get a new coach. So I don't really understand your point. KCP undoubtly has the potential to be a good NBA player and that doesn't have much to do with blindly following sports administrations.

Well it's not like Trey has justified the outrage.

This rookie class might be the worst ever. Everyone has been terrible.

Trey has picked it up a bit this month, but his shooting splits in Februray (35.1-32.7-85) and March (35.1-30.9-100) were atrocious (not to mention the entire season). I mean, in the entire month of March he had 3 free throw attempts(!), and that's it. How is that even possible when you're the primary ball handler and playing over 30 minutes a game?

Look, we can circle jerk over how terrible Dumars is, because he deserves to be fired asap, but if we're being honest with ourselves,, and if we're being objective, Burke hasn't justified the outrage, and he hasn't lived up to the hype (thus far).

For anyone who doesn't want to look this up, the season numbers for the above stats are 38.2-34.8-91.6. A non-exhaustive list of other relevant stats are 5.1 APG, 1.8 TO/G (2.83 ratio), 1.5 FTA/G.

Advanced: 12.9 PER, 47.7 TS%, 44.9 eFG%, 5.6 REB%, 28.9 AST%, .9 STL%, 12.1 TO%, 22.1 USG%, 101 ORtg, 114 Drtg, .9 OWS, .1 DWS, 1.0 WS, .027 WS/48.

For KCP, 39.1-30.5-77.6, with .7 APG, .4 TO/G (1.75 ratio), .7 FTA/G.

Advanced: 8.7 PER, 47.8 TS%, 45.5 eFG%, 5.1 REB%, 5.2 AST%, 2.4 STL%, 6.2 TO%, 13.4 USG%, 104 ORtg, 110 DRtg, .6 OWS, .9 DWS, 1.4 WS, .051 WS/48

Without joining the argument and recognizing this is 1 small paragraph in your otherwise valid argument, but because this bothers me for whatever reason, I still think the skill of the rookie class as a whole is irrelevant when comparing who should be drafted as between these 2 players. To include the skill of everyone else within an argument about Burke vs. KCP, I feel like you have to be essentially arguing "why hold the draft everyone from the Piston's pick down had a value of 0, Burke and KCP are within that group of 0 value players, thus KCP was not a worse pick, he had the exact same value, 0." I think I'm inclined to disagree with that extrapolated agrument but whatever I just say that in hopes of limiting the discussion to the relative values of KCP vs. Burke.

Outside of relative player values, you have to think Dumars is at least looking at the fact that Pistons rank last in % of arena capacity sold per game and thinking what that number would look like if he drafted Burke. Would imagine merchandise sales show a similar league rank. There may be people going to games specifically to see KCP, but I would be very surprised if that numbr is higher than people going to games specifically to see Burke.

saying that it isn't KCP's fault because he's on a crappy team, i call bullshit.  Good players find a way to do SOMETHING positive, even when their team sucks.  The dude has lost his starting spot to Kyle Singler because Singler can actually shoot.  Will Pope figure out how to shoot sometime in the future?  Sure, maybe he will.  Or maybe he'll be out of the league.

BTW, Burke's March numbers:

13.5 p/g

5.0 a/g

2..6 r/g

1.8 to/g

42% shooting

38% from 3.

Those numbers are all better than Brandon Jenning's numbers in March except that Jennings has slightly more assists at 6.7 a/g.   So Burke is already basically playing as well or better than Jennings, yet people are still arguing that the Pistons shouldn't have taken him so they could grab a guy that is now riding the bench?  Really?  smh

The guy's not the main scoring option.  He's #5.  He's not drated to be the main scoring threat.  Comparing him to Burke is just stupid.  If the guy is half as good as Burce Bowen, I'm happy.  He's already a pretty good permiter defender and he can improve as a shooter.  He's a rookie and people are writing him off.  This is so mornoic it's not even funny.

This line of complaining is getting to be the worst.

I would think a nice play by a Uof M alum would simply be celebrated at a Michigan sports blog. Silly me.
