"tOSU" vs. "scUM"

Submitted by gomaize11 on

I know this is probably nitpicking, but can we stop referring to them as tOSU? (THE Ohio State University) We add in the "t" in respect to their ridiculous insistence to add the "THE" to their name, and in response they all call us scum.

It really bugs me. So let's stop.

At least this week.

Any suggestions on a more disrespectful abbreviation? OSUcks, perhaps?

The 2 aren't equivalent...

tOSU is awesome because it shows how ridiculous they are by being "THE" Ohio State University. We are making fun of them while staying classy.

scUM is just stupid because ... well obviously.

If we go to OSUcks ... then we're just like them.

In many buckeye circles they refer to themselves as "tOSU" or some derivations, so off the bat it's not overly derogatory for us to use it. Also, I think you're mistaken in believing that we're showing "respect" by using "tOSU." In my opinion we're poking fun on their own insistence of adding the THE. That said, I have no problem with it.

See the buckeye blog The Buckeye Battle Cry, shortened "tBBC" for a self-use of the t by the buckeyes.

There's an abstract quality about tOSU that works perfectly, in my opinion. Maybe its the goofy sound of the word as you sound it out, plus the meth-addict inversion of capitalization, plus the pathetic arrogance of what the 't' means to Buckeye fans ...

I'm in complete agreement that O$U, Suckeyes, etc., are blights upon Michigan fandom. But I like tOSU.

Like mama always said "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all"

really because OSU calls us a name and we respect them you want to call them a name.... Terrible idea!

Well since I live in Texas now it's actually tOSU to differentiate between them and Oklahoma State - hell, when I was at "tOSU" even OSU fans called it tOSU because of the "The." I gotta be honest with you guys - calling it tOSU isn't really an insult at all.

And a history lesson just for sh!ts and giggles - the only reason it's "The OSU" is because Ohio University in Athens put in to the state to officially be called "The Ohio University" and OSU said, no, if anybody is going to be "The Ohio" anything it's going to be OSU because they have a bigger campus, more students, more faculty, more money, blah blah blah. So, actually, it's OU's (NT OU) fault there was even a t in the first place. But, back to my original point - tOSU isn't an insult - we should do better than simply using their initials and calling it an insult.

However, when they went to make it official the state of Ohio decided against it resulting in this: "In 1906, Ohio made a law that said The Ohio State University was the state's "flagship campus""

There's also this: http://library.osu.edu/sites/archives/resources/faqpage.php#THE

anyway - that's, hopefully, the last and only link to anything involving "osu.edu" on here ever :)

I don't get how tOSU is offensive. Unlike scUM, designed to be derogatory, it's an actual abbreviation for the actual name of their fine institution.

Unless the "sc" stands for Supreme Commanders? Sports Champions? Superior College?

In which case thanks for the compliments.

Spartina should be banned for lameness alone.

Can we outlaw "Walmart Wolverine" too while we're at it? I want to throw something at myself just for typing it.
