"tOSU" vs. "scUM"
I know this is probably nitpicking, but can we stop referring to them as tOSU? (THE Ohio State University) We add in the "t" in respect to their ridiculous insistence to add the "THE" to their name, and in response they all call us scum.
It really bugs me. So let's stop.
At least this week.
Any suggestions on a more disrespectful abbreviation? OSUcks, perhaps?
November 17th, 2009 at 9:52 AM ^
just plain old OSU?
November 17th, 2009 at 9:52 AM ^
I think you meant O$U as the idiots like to do.
November 17th, 2009 at 9:56 AM ^
so tOSU bugs you but other retarded concoctions don't?
Good Thread.
November 17th, 2009 at 9:57 AM ^
No. Childish insults like scUM and O$U are beyond stupid. Let's not become those fans.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:16 PM ^
Users of scUM have *no* imagination. That was probably an old joke in the '70s.
November 17th, 2009 at 9:57 AM ^
I thought "scUM" was mainly used by Michigan State fans. Fucknuts use it as well?
November 17th, 2009 at 3:39 PM ^
Actually, it seems that most Spartans aren't clever enough to use that spelling, preferring "SCum" (which they borrowed from UCLA, unaware that it doesn't work as well for us).
November 17th, 2009 at 9:58 AM ^
The 2 aren't equivalent...
tOSU is awesome because it shows how ridiculous they are by being "THE" Ohio State University. We are making fun of them while staying classy.
scUM is just stupid because ... well obviously.
If we go to OSUcks ... then we're just like them.
November 17th, 2009 at 9:58 AM ^
calling them the f*ckeyes.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:56 AM ^
Any insult that is a play on the word "f*ck" is stupid, overdone, and not remotely creative.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:25 AM ^
In many buckeye circles they refer to themselves as "tOSU" or some derivations, so off the bat it's not overly derogatory for us to use it. Also, I think you're mistaken in believing that we're showing "respect" by using "tOSU." In my opinion we're poking fun on their own insistence of adding the THE. That said, I have no problem with it.
See the buckeye blog The Buckeye Battle Cry, shortened "tBBC" for a self-use of the t by the buckeyes.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:37 PM ^
There's an abstract quality about tOSU that works perfectly, in my opinion. Maybe its the goofy sound of the word as you sound it out, plus the meth-addict inversion of capitalization, plus the pathetic arrogance of what the 't' means to Buckeye fans ...
I'm in complete agreement that O$U, Suckeyes, etc., are blights upon Michigan fandom. But I like tOSU.
November 17th, 2009 at 9:58 AM ^
I cant stand listening to people say "The" OSU....
tOSU should be banned forever!
November 17th, 2009 at 9:59 AM ^
Like mama always said "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all"
really because OSU calls us a name and we respect them you want to call them a name.... Terrible idea!
November 17th, 2009 at 10:05 AM ^
Wow, you know it's bad a thread when even bouje calls you out!
Just playin, you're my boy bouje!
November 17th, 2009 at 10:01 AM ^
TUOSU - Originated from their Rhodes Scholar QB's commitment day press conference.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:05 AM ^
Also, Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. "Asian-American", please.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:01 AM ^
tUoOS
November 17th, 2009 at 10:01 AM ^
This thread is just as painful as the 3rd quarter against Illinois.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:08 AM ^
Also, I am pretty sure scUM did not originate as a response to tOSU.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:09 AM ^
Well since I live in Texas now it's actually tOSU to differentiate between them and Oklahoma State - hell, when I was at "tOSU" even OSU fans called it tOSU because of the "The." I gotta be honest with you guys - calling it tOSU isn't really an insult at all.
And a history lesson just for sh!ts and giggles - the only reason it's "The OSU" is because Ohio University in Athens put in to the state to officially be called "The Ohio University" and OSU said, no, if anybody is going to be "The Ohio" anything it's going to be OSU because they have a bigger campus, more students, more faculty, more money, blah blah blah. So, actually, it's OU's (NT OU) fault there was even a t in the first place. But, back to my original point - tOSU isn't an insult - we should do better than simply using their initials and calling it an insult.

...many Ohio Universities were chartered using the definite article. It is true that The Ohio University (1804) and The Miami University (1809) both used the term before tOSU.
November 17th, 2009 at 1:03 PM ^
However, when they went to make it official the state of Ohio decided against it resulting in this: "In 1906, Ohio made a law that said The Ohio State University was the state's "flagship campus""
http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_State_University
There's also this: http://library.osu.edu/sites/archives/resources/faqpage.php#THE
anyway - that's, hopefully, the last and only link to anything involving "osu.edu" on here ever :)
November 17th, 2009 at 10:10 AM ^
Isn't "Ohio" a disrespectful enough connotation?
November 17th, 2009 at 10:19 AM ^
I mean, it did produce some of the best Michigan Football players ever.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:49 AM ^
the smart ones got the heck out of oh*o.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:30 AM ^
+1
No caps. just ohio. thats all you need to say.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:29 AM ^
I don't get how tOSU is offensive. Unlike scUM, designed to be derogatory, it's an actual abbreviation for the actual name of their fine institution.
Unless the "sc" stands for Supreme Commanders? Sports Champions? Superior College?
In which case thanks for the compliments.
November 17th, 2009 at 10:35 AM ^
it fits with the whole "Zolatan Mesko: Emperor of Space, leader of the Space Commanders of the Univeristy of Michigan."
Eh? Sounds good to me!
Go Blue!

We Big Ten-nians are a proud bunch
November 17th, 2009 at 10:32 AM ^
THEEEEEEEOSU....those morons, the emphasize "The" as "Thee" so heavily it even drowns out their school name.
God, I hate living in Columbus.
Go Blue!
November 17th, 2009 at 10:44 AM ^
Since those asshats really don't deserve the definite article, I say we refer to them as aOSU - An Ohio State University.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:35 AM ^
so far.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:59 PM ^
Myself I've always wondered why they need to remind each other of the difference between the Ohio state university in Columbus and the other ones. I can tell the difference; can't they?

Anyone using a stupid nickname for any school will get many negative points. "Spartina" is an instant banning.

is always watching.
November 17th, 2009 at 12:26 PM ^
Sir, it's too bad you're not Richard Daley. Otherwise, I would vote for you as many times as I can.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:38 AM ^
Spartina should be banned for lameness alone.
Can we outlaw "Walmart Wolverine" too while we're at it? I want to throw something at myself just for typing it.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:57 AM ^
Whoever invented that phrase should be beaten about the head!
