Excellent late night reading. Even if everything that is good, pure, and holy in this world falls apart and OSU is found innocent of even a fraction of this stuff, the risidual effects are going to hurt.

There is some surprisingly rational conversation at the bottom there, but this made me laugh: "Dunn has not opened up his recruitment. When did he say that he did and show me the statement. Because he is visiting Michigan doesn't mean he did."

Ya because someone who is completely opposed to lookoing at other options is going to visit your biggest rival for no reason at all.  Not saying he'll change his mind, but c'mon!

I enjoy reading the FEAR in his writing about Michigan.  He knows a storm's heading south ready to leave broken tattoo parlors and gold pants strewn about the streets of Columbus.

in recruiting which may have happened regardless of the scandal just due to the capabilities of our staff in that area. When you layer it over their impending sanctions from the NCAA, I am sure it seems bleak. Unfortunately, Ohio is like the villian in the horror movies, it does not end when they are buried, only when they go into something more drastic like a wood chipper. When the NCAA rolls out a wood chipper, I will feel a bit better.

My favorite was the poster that basically said, "Hey, we're getting all sorts of free publicity off this scandal. This is great for us, right?......anybody?"

Did you see the line in that article that says, " I think JT will end up being cleared of any wrongdoing"?  That is mind-blowing.  JT has confessed to wrongdoing.  JT has been proved to have committed serious wrongdoing.  Whatever actually happens to TSIO, the one that will never happen is "JT being cleared of any wrongdoing."

Perhaps they ought to make a requirement for a logic class at TSIO.

It is starting to look more and more like that is the case.  I don't want to be one of those types who heaps burning coals on anyone's head... Tressel was pretty good about Michigan's "too much stretching situation", but the more I hear about this whole thing the more he comes off like a liar and a cheater.  Probably wasn't so pressing to Michigan because he knew he was guilty of far greater offenses.

Throw the book at him!!

to sort out which scandal the reference is to ..... just so many, and probably more to come.  But now these other issues, ie - "usedcargate" is starting to look like a smoke screen for the big issue of "tatgate5" and the VERY PLAIN and VERY SIMPLE FACT that tressel lied, not once but multiple times and has now filed official NCAA reports that have have evidence that the report was yet ANOTHER lie.

treessel is simply a product of the new america - get what you can, anyway you can.  It is always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission !   tsio already punished him, right ?  game suspensions and cash ... wow.  I doubt that tressel couldn't do anything (include rape and murder) that could not be explained away by his employer and the tsio fans ... very sad !

Seriously, wtf. I read this and started laughing out loud in my cubicle. The way I took it, he was directly referring to the tattoo incident. Ummm, earth to Meekus, there is a paper trail of you covering up lies and signing NCAA docs saying you have no clue of what happened. This car thing is going to bite them in the ass too. Let's the good news keep rollin in....Good to be a UM fan my friends!

While the story is interesting and made for a decent read (hard to fathom when you consider it's Long and it's a TSIO article) but I found the comments to be even more interesting.

I can't believe how delusional their fans are. Even the most "understanding" of posters still only comments that JT was just lying, but is still a good man.  No one seems to remember that he knowingly played ineligible players, knowingly held back information from the school and the NCAA, and has also shown a track record of breaking ruls or at least turning a blind eye to boosters and shenanigans taking place at Columbus.

I may have been enraged when we got punished for practicing too much and how it came about, but when it came down to it, the NCAA punished us for an rules violation and we have to live with it.  Hopefully TSIO will learn that lesson over the next 3-5 years while they're done playing football in November...

Other than the deluded fan who thought the publicity was a good thing (oh brother), I thought most (not all) of the comments were basically fatalistic about the program.  Many posters wondered aloud if JT would continue to coach and a several called for him to resign.  Just my take.  Certainly way more rational than the dreck on RCMB about how Mich recruiting this year isn't stomping their ass.

Holy crap. I had never been to that board until last night. Is that Sparty's best counter to MGoBlog? It seems that all but a few of the posters there have the mental aptitude of a 12 year old... I guess that's what is called an MSU grad.  Entertaining, to say the least.

This is an awesome OH class this year and it would stink if we lost out on a few because the NCAA dragged it feet and then found us to be innocent.

1.) They will not be found "innocent". The punishment may be light, but guilt has been admitted.

2.) Dragging its feet? This may be the fastest NCAA investigation in history.  How long did the NCAA take to determine that we spent too much time stretching?

Six Zero

actually points out something I was thinking about just the other day-- that the longer these investigations drag out, the worse it is for tOSU, aka the better it is for us.

It's one thing to suffer a major blow and have to find a way to fight through it, regroup and rebuild.  Everyone in Columbus knows they've been dragged through the mud and the program has been dishonored, if that's possible in a pit of vipers like theirs...

But what's much worse is... to wait.  And wait.  And wait.

The Buckeyes have nothing to offer recruits-- no, 'well here's what's going to happen and how we'll fix it' or 'here's our plan to rebuild' or even 'this is why it happened and why it won't happen again,' or knowing the scarlet and gray 'here's what we did wrong and this is how we won't get caught next time.'

They have nothing to fight off the uncertainty of the recruits, because they don't know anything more than the kids themselves.  The longer this uncertainty drags on, the more likely it is a kid like Bri'Onte Dunn says 'you know what, thanks for the offer but Ima move on.'

It's the not knowing that is killing the Buckeyes right now, and the longer it hangs over the Horseshoe, the better.  Crime doesn't pay, kids.

Now they know how we have felt the last two years and the year Carr left. Two recruiting classes dealing with coaching uncertainty and one dealing with NCAA infractions in only four years sure makes things difficult for a program. Hopefully this won't be resolved any time before signing day next year.

A good read, indeed...it's refreshing to see a bucknut who recognizes the implications of Tresselgate.  Upon reading the comments, I realized the author was one of the few bucknuts grounded in reality...how the hell could a rational person believe that this could be a positve for recruiting in any way?...oh, right...my bad

Here is the quote from the article where the author hopes the NCAA hands down their penalties quickly:

"The NCAA needs to come forth with their decision. Recruiting is the heart of any sports program. I say the delay in announcing the sanctions is a penalty in its own right because of the impact on recruiting.

If there is no announcement soon, the kind of players who can change The Rivalry quickly will be wearing maize and blue. "

Does this remind anyone of the UM Hoops Scandal? We were on defacto probations for years before the real ruling from the NCAA, how did that work for us? Not too good. As much as I can't wait to see what the NCAA delivers to tosu I am happy with the cloud hovering over C-bus.

Madman ramblings by me:

-Aug12 they get somewhere between what BSU gave themselves and USC. Do they appeal and further prolong this?

-Tressel will resign after next season This serves as way to do a yearlong coaching search with Luke Fickell getting first dibs and maintaining stability.

-IF the NCAA makes it impossible for Tressel coach at all this season, what do they do now? Not a way to cut your teeth for Fickell, a first time HC being at the helm of a sinking flagship team. An in season CC should equal recruiting chaos. Plus we should make it our mission to start rumors of the Dean O Discipline to throw Sparty for a ride while we're at it.

-I can't see were Urban Meyer would want to come in to a school facing bowl bans, recruiting restrictions and even if he did is he recharged enough to deal with that fan base? Who would be the logical choice?

End Ramble.

I hear even Chris Spielman say thinks JT has coached his last game in C-bus.

So it starts with uncertainty and OSU still gets a solid class this year with the wealth of instate talent.  But a few prospects don't fall their way b/c they are not from Ohio and would rather try their luck at some other big name school.  Then the hammer comes and they get 3 year ban? more maybe?  Then we are talking about an entire recruiting class that does not get to play in a bowl game in their career.  Who is going to play then?  It will be like the replacements.  It will be like Akron, Kent St., BG, Toledo, or Miami playing in "the Shoe" for a few years.  They will try desperately to win decent games, maintain some type of national reputation, get recruits in, so they can try to get back to the top of the BIG when they come off their ban.

It will be glorious.

What I find absolutely hilarious is their fans know they've been caught red handed, but rather than fess up and take their medicine, they are shifting the focus towards the NCAA " Hurry up Woodya and make a decision!" If I would have gotten caught doing something this serious when I was a kid and while my dad was deciding what my punishment was, I told him to hurry up and get it over with. Sh*t my ass would still be a blaze from that big ass leather belt. I say take your time because if the NCAA were to "Hurry Up and make a decision" and they made a mistake then that would give those homers down south a somewhat logical scapegoat (take that with grain mill worth of salt).

I'm lovin it! NCAA take your time because like previous posters said "Crime doesn't pay" and hurrying through this investigation would equate to getting out of prison early for good behavior. - - Focker Out!

How long did the NCAA investigation of our program take last year?  I think the NCAA has no responsibility to hurry their investigation up just so OSU can better pick up recruits.  That part of the article is idiotic.  I hope this process drags on until at least October.  By then OSU will be in the midst of a slump without the Tat 5 and Columbus will be on the brink of anarchy.

Article is dead-on.  Except for hopeful thinking about the vest avoiding trouble.

Hoke and Mattison are going to pillage Ohio for talent.  Hoke loves staying home....Ohio is loaded this year, OSU has no space for them and bad press = "I am big win"

Gary_B

Take into account the fact that OSU failed to do anything more than a cursory "investigation" back in December and failed to report much more major findings that have now come to light. The NCAA cannot afford to deal with this quickly. They need to take their time and make sure no stones are left unturned. I can't believe for a second that the NCAA trusts the findings by OSU to be thorough and complete with the botch job in December and the obviously systemic infractions spread over the last ten years. I also doubt that OSU has been as transparent with the NCAA as we were during our investigation. I say light 'em up for the simple fact that they support their lying, cheating coach.

I have very little faith in the NCAA.  That said, the Vest should be toast and OSU slammed.  And not just for being who they are.  They've got numerous violations already uncovered with more likely to come.

You should clarify your headline: the perfect storm's hitting OSU, not us.  Perfect storms are bad.  We were hit three years ago.

I found it amazing how nearly all of the TSIO fans found it a possibility that they would be found innocent or get no further penalties from this. I firmly believe that they will get USC level of sanctions if the NCAA takes the dealership situation as seriously as it should be.  There is a clear rule that student-athletes can't get discounts that are not available to the general public, which is what their football players got.
