Torrian Wilson drops Stanford

Submitted by brendandavis22 on
New top 3 of Michigan, Tenn and South Florida. Would be a great player to land.

Is this really a necessary post? Normally I'm not a dick about this stuff but you post something along the lines of, "Thanks for the info," or, "Sweet, good to know," all the time. I like the positive reinforcement and I'm sure it gives the OP's warm fuzzies, but it is a waste of precious space on these here internets. Thank you.

...they annoy me too. And it does seem like the whole just-ignore-posts-that-annoy-you logic could easily be extended to negative posts about Rodriguez or troll-like posts, yet those posts are quickly and actively condemned by the MGoCommunity. But it also seems, based on the reaction to the various posts here, that the majority of the board is ok enough with the posts not to give them the condemnation treatment (at least not yet yet). So be it.

Most of what people say and do in casual socializing could be considered "pointless" or perhaps "arbitrary." This is a message board, not a peer-reviewed scientific journal (though sometimes, it has the feel of one). Not every statement has to be packed with meaning.

I know we need defense, but I think its important that we get 2-3 OL/year. Now if we can only get Seantrel to come on over! Its funny, the day that Wilson committed to Stanford, Harbaugh tweeted about how happy he was about it (although he had to do so in roundabout manner - cant talk about unsigned players by name). I missed his tweet about the decommit!/sarcasm

only one of those three teams has been in contact with him from the very beginning. he has family in the A2 area. we only took one guard in last year's recruiting class and don't have any in this one (assuming pace is slated for center). hmmm.....

The second highest rated OG in the country (according to Rivals.com) would really solidify this class in terms of creating future depth. Also note Torrian has an official visit coming up in a month.

that all these 4 star players being discussed will "drop" for Michigan, as the kids say, but the fact its still very plausible should make everyone who was castigating our coaching staff's recruiting efforts back in November consider how ridiculously premature their comments were.

Nobody has decommitted, so people's complaints about the players who were committing still hold true. If people were concerned about the quality of players we received commitments from, now look at all the players who are listing us - and we don't have room for them all. For example, if Hankins wanted to commit right now, he might be left out in the cold. The hubbub about Jatashun Beachum coming to Michigan has disappeared. Cassius McDowell is still out there. Meanwhile, there are a few lower-rated guys who are still taking up spots that those three could potentially use... (I'm not saying names here out of politeness, but there are a couple uncommitted guys who are interested in Michigan that I would rather have in place of a couple current commits.) Anyway, this recruiting class is not without flaws. People who were complaining back in August still may have some legitimate gripes.

the hype around hankins. is it because he has offers from OU and florida? (we'll get to ohio st. in a bit) because oklahoma only offered him to try and get gholston, at the time the two were saying they would go to school together. florida doesn't seem to be strongly pursuing hankins either and i doubt he'd be able to commit to either school right now if he tried. is it the OSU offer? really quickly tell me the last high level DT they produced (i honestly don't know if someone could tell me that'd be great). he also didn't get offered by MSU who is coached by the last guy to lead OSU's defense to a national title. i just don't see it.

I don't think he's a great player, but we don't have any depth at the NT position. Mike Martin should be a 3-tech, which leaves Sagesse (a senior) and Campbell. For a good defensive tackle at OSU, you might have to go all the way back to Dan Wilkinson.

OSU apparently loves him b/c they offered him awhile before they offered Sharrif Floyd...How it got to be that U of M and MSU hadn't offered him but Florida and OSU had is a mystery to me too...OSU is very thin at DT, but that doesn't explain why they'd offer him before Floyd.

I think Brian mentioned it in an earlier post, but there has been a precedent at other schools of giving the parent/coach a $40k pay raise and then have his kid walk-on. He mentioned it was a little "dirty", but whatever. We need to build depth and I don't think it's all that bad to work around it a little.

The negging is a bit harsh. 90+ threads dominated with "cool" can be irritating. But I assume, Colt, it was because of the "necessary" part - no, of course those posts aren't necessary, no internet posts really are. One thinks that a simple substitution of "interesting" or "enhancing" instead of "necessary" would have saved you 21 Mgopoints! What a pity! The other point is that "cool" and "sweet," while light on substance, at least don't throw the thread off the track that we've seem to have found ourselves in based on your "get off my porch moment."
