Torn

Submitted by Purkinje on

My poor heart. I don't know how to take this any more. Three years is quite enough. Do I support Rich Rod despite the lack of production in Big Ten ball? How can I keep buying into this when we've only beaten something like two teams that ended the season with a winning record in the past two and a half years?

I miss Michigan football.

I, for the first time, am unsure if I want Rich Rodriguez to be given another year to get his act together. I don't see progress. I see last year with a better quarterback. I can see us losing the last seven games. I can see us sitting out of a bowl for the third straight year.

What's going wrong?

I hate to be the INEXCUSABLE guy, but our D should't be this bad. And that falls on RR. I see no reason for this D to be good this year or next. Maybe 2012? Who knows?

What's going wrong?

JT Floyd and, until this week, James Rogers are our starting cornerbacks.  Troy Wookfolk's ankle is dislocated.  Mike Martin's ankle is injured and he will be iffy the rest of the season.  We haven't recruited a true free safety in six or seven years.  Justin Turner and Vlad Emilein never lived up to their recruiting hype and are now part of other teams.  The backups taking their place are true freshmen.

On the other hand, the offense has gone from being the football equivalent of a fetid corpse to one of the most dangerous units in college football in just 3 seasons.  I'm just as frustrated with today's result as the rest of MGoNation with tonights loss, but I don't know if I'm ready to say Rich needs to go or Rich needs to can GERG.  We lack talent on defense.  The reasons have been very competently documented here by Brian and Misopogon, predate the hiring of Rodriguez, and are not easily fixed, but they can be fixed.  And the good news is that the fix doesn't have to be as complete as what we've seen with the offense.

Being patient sucks, but I think good things will happen if we hang in there.  Not this season unfortunately, but I still see good things in our future.

that alot of us Michigan fans had state wide tonight. Reading all these posts is weird because A lot of us wouldn't say this stuff (myself included). But tonight just gave me a very gloomy dark feeling that I simply can not defend this staff anymore. Again most of us agree and by most i mean that ones that actually pay attention to what's going on not just "fire richrod" even though i have no idea what's going on fan.. I don't want Rich gone. The way he stepped into the defense huddle after we scored pushing Greg Robinson out of the way trying to fire them up... You can see it in the man's eyes, he knows his ass is on the hot seat and he loves it here in Michigan and doesn't want to leave and he shouldn't. Something has to be done about the D idk what but getting rid of richrod won't solve this!

I had a positive attitude towards Gerg when he started, based on past credentials.  I realize that our defensive players are young, but I am starting to think that the defensive coaches just aren't able to teach these guys.  No matter the reason, if they can't teach the guys, then we need to get new coaches who can.  With this offense, we don't need a dominating D, just one that can get a handfull of stops a game.  Two more stops probably wins us this game.  I have lost all faith in the defensive staff creating a serviceable defense.

But this one really hurt. I have defended him and I will continue that support of RR the person from the likes of the MSM and haters. But this game was crushing. I'm torn, too.

If you're torn, does that mean you're not "all in"?  Does that make you a "hater"?  Or does it just mean that the body of work you've seen raises questions as to whether or not RR can get the job done?  Maybe it's time to stop demonizing those who earlier raised the same concerns which now "tear" at you.
