I disagree with Avery's interception against OSU being ranked at #2.  Correct me if I'm wrong but, it was 4th down and if Avery drops it, its still a turnover on downs.  In fact, technically, he should have just batted it down because he actually lost field position by making the interception.  (Of couse, intercepting it made the defensive stand much more tasty.)

Agreed.  Given the situation the interception was awesome.  But if we needed to turn around and score people would have been very upset.  Cost about 20 yards of field position.

On 4th down, always knock the ball down (but down, not up, which I believe has ended in disaster before.

I play flag football once a week and when we're going on defense on a final drive I tell everyone to just intercept the ball instead of batting it down.  Why?  Because on at least 5 occasions one of our players attempted to bat the ball down and the WR still caught it.  If you've got position, just intercept it.  If you don't have position then you probably got beat and just volleyball spike it away from the group of players.

Not saying I'm right in every case, but on our team the bat down doesn't work.

I agree.  There are probably as many examples of batted balls being caught as failed interception attempts being caught by the offense.

I guess the thinking goes that an interception attempt will cause the ball to bounce up and fall to the ground slowly giving the offense some time to react.  If you bat the ball down then it goes to the ground quickly and the offense has to be very lucky to be in the right place.

High velocity has three field turf fields that are about ten years old or so. Obviously the turf isnt in prestine condition...there are a few divits and seams in between sheets of turf that were rolled down originally. They decided to stop letting flag football players wear cleats of any kind (befire the policy was that molded cleats under and inch in length were okay). I went to a game a few weeks later and saw that soccer players on another field were still allowed to wear their cleats without being yelled at by the manager. Pretty messed up IMO

that was above this one? (for a very short time)

I was curious to see if it was an out-and-out troll post, a wild unsubstantiated rumor, or something else.

I do doubt that we would get a true commit from him until he does an official - but was intrigued enough to click on it and got "access denied".

It was a trolling post. (hopefully a ban-worthy offense.)

On a side note, I went over to see if our friends at RCMB* are over their BCS whining (no new threads, but they aren't) and learned:

  1. Michigan has the easiest Big 10 schedule next year of the legends contenders (OSU and NU away, really?)
  2. Michigan State will win the Division next year --  And the league (vs. OSU) so we don't even need to play the games next year.

* I know its bad form to go there, but its like slowing down to see a car wreck.

And added something from Northwestern. That comeback was bigger to the momentum of the season than any play in the Purdue beating.

I can't disagree with any of the picks, but I don't like the presentation. Start with #10 and work to #1. There's no crescendo if the list is done in reverse order!

notre dame game was fun and all, but without a doubt the play of the year is the avery interception against ohio.  that was pure euphoria and football bliss that we havent seen since lloyd's last game.

Not to be all not-picky, and I know we weren't going to go for any more points, but the interception was on 4th down and would've gotten them much better field position if he had just batted it down.

Number 7

Three favorites from the pre-conference portion of the schedule:

Kovacs' fumble causing hit on Carder (and Herron's second TD) -- less impact on the game than the 96-yard return, but it made more of a statement about what Michigan's D would be like this year.

In a similar vein, RVB (?)  chasing down Hillman and causing a fumble inside the Michigan 10 against SDSU.  Gave M some breathing room just as the game looked to be getting a little too tight for comfort.

Too many plays from the ND game, but how about Rees's non-contact fumble on the doorstep, which kept ND from going up by as many as 10 with 6 minutes left in the game.

The number one play from this year was JT Floyd running Braxton Miller down at the 5 yard line. The game ended there, and as far as the Michigan football vibe is concerned, no game had a bigger impact at the time of kickoff on our future than that one did.
