every other conference and team except Alabama and especially likes to target the B10.

On second thought, you're right. Let's just sit here instead constantly refreshing the page about Alex Kozan.

useful and needed than the 'Signed LOI's' post or any of the other ones that contain actual information relating to Michigan and its rival's recruits? Those good threads are now getting pushed off the front page on national signing day because of this one, so I clearly stand corrected.

Ha alright bud, didn't mean to ruin your day.

If any of the rumors about Miles making up stories about Carr's health are true, he should be up in the top 2-3. That's just not excusable on any level.

I suppose you would have to ask a recruit this question who has delt with a number of cocaches. We obviosuly have a general idea, but do not really know whats goes on behind the scenes.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:36 PM ^
Urban Meyer actually admitted to negative recruiting earlier today, saying he would've used OSU's bowl ban against them if he was at a different school.
But I believe you just have to focus on what you can control. You will get a lot of guys, especially high-character guys, if you refuse to negative recruit and just focus on what you can control.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
like Michigan coaches, he doesn't bring up other schools. He only sells Alabama. I have no link, so take it with a grain of salt.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:03 PM ^
Saban doesn't have to badmouth anyone. His school has world class golden handshakes, his state is football-mad, and he has an entire team of "hostesses" or whatever they are called who actually have to compete for the privilege of "showing recruits around."
If there is an underground list paseed by recruits of "must visit" schools, I have a feeling Bama is one of them.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
........negative recruiters, some are positive recruiters, and that is overall IMO. Generally, some amount of negative recruiting is done by each and every coach, even when they are promoting their school only.
Consider this; If Hoke goes and tells a recruit that UM has the best business school in the land, he is implying that other schools the recruit may be considering do NOT have as good a business school.
Generally, though, recruiting like my example of Hoke above is not considered negative.
As for "dirtiest" I'd have to say that any coach who cares more about the numbers of recruits, and their talent, rather than the kids themselves, is a dirty recruiter. Hence, Saban is, by a very, very large margin, the dirtiest recruiter in the land. He makes the coach in "Johnny Be Good" look like a boyscout.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
By your definition, wouldn't someone like Houston Nutt be the worst? I know Saban oversigns like a mo-fo, but there are worse oversigners out there, Saban just happens to field the best teams with his oversignees.
February 1st, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
But, I have to admit that I've seen little to nothing about Nutt's recruits getting pushed to the curb like I have Saban's. However, given the amount of oversigning Nutt does, one has to believe that he does things very similar to Saban. Right now, due to the amount of evidence of kids being hurt by Saban, I'm going with him.

.......computer! I'm damn close to killing it like I did my last one, only this time on purpose!
February 1st, 2012 at 1:48 PM ^
In order to be a dirty recruiter, don't you have to be somewhat good at what you do?
Coach Nutt had the distinction of being asked to leave not one, but two schools.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:44 PM ^
The fact of the matter is none of you know anything in regards to how these coaches recruit. Unless, you were actually recruited by them or actually a coach yourself.
February 1st, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
Of course they do, they read it on a Michigan message board. It must be true.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
I hate to admit it, but Saban is the best coach in the NCAA. I agree that he does have unfair advantages, but he does consistently win. He is a ruthless dictator that gets what he wants no matter what. We will see what happens next September. Btw, I think we can win that game, but we will see.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:53 PM ^
So what you mean is that he's the best at gaming the system.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:56 PM ^
If we can shore up the center position (a fairly sizeable if, IMO, given that Molk was...Molk), Borges improves his gameplanning, and Fitz and Denard are healthy, we should be able to score on them.
We're going to be the best offense they've seen in quite a while (Auburn 2010 would be my guess), and they replace a lot of last years elite defense. If we can get by their defense (obviously a big if) the game is ours; they won't survive anything resembling a shootout with our offense.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
We can win the game because it's the first game. Yeah, Alabama just reloads, but it will take a few games to get everything together for them, especially on offense with the new coordinator. I know they have some talented players, but they aren't necessarily the brightest of the bunch. =)
February 1st, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
Lets cut Urban Meyer some slack here. I'm sure all of the 78 legal cases his players have been inolved in, have all been some sort of political activist activity.
February 1st, 2012 at 12:58 PM ^
Coaches negative recruit for the same reason politicians run negative ads...they work. But other than your feelings can you share with the board exactly why you think these gentlemen negative recruit and do so as a matter of course?
And exactly what negatives would Meyer have to use against us anyways? Our TA's don't give out easy A's? Our fan's arent as willing to kill other fans as OSU's are? The help at Blimpie's will yell at you? It's hard to get a parking space during Art Fair week?
Not sure there are a lot of negative bullets he could fire at us. Maybe....just maybe....the kids he got just wanted to go to OSU. Crazy talk I know but we have to at least consider the possibility.
February 1st, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
The guy is a great recruiter and a great coach, and there are a lot of legitimate reasons to want to play at OSU. The sooner we accept the fact that Meyer is going to have a lot of success there and that it's not all a result of some sort of underhandedness, the sooner we cease to look petty.
February 1st, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
Meyer may do some negative recruiting, but props to the guy for offering 4 year scholarships. OSU is one of the few schools doing that this year, and if the trend catches on, it could wreak havoc on the tendancy to over sign.

Your too close!
February 1st, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
Well, I think the dirtiest ones are probably the one's who don't have a bad rep and haven't been caught. It only takes one incident to ruin a reputation when it comes to recruiting and coaching. Rivals are just waiting impatiently for coaches to screw up.
February 1st, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
How do any of us know? Now if your criteria is coaches I don't like very much, it's a fine list. If you included Lane Kiffin, it would be perfect.
February 1st, 2012 at 3:02 PM ^
Before we start naming names, what is the criteria to be called a dirty recruiter?
February 1st, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
Why is Urban Meyer a dirty recruiter? He doesn't oversign and most of his problems were with his players getting arrested.
