Tony Drake & Stephen Hopkins weekly update

Submitted by cjm on

I looked through the first few pages and didn't see this on the board yet...

Last night Hopkins went 28 carries for 171 yards with touchdowns of 37 & 22 yards. Marcus finished the regular season with a 35-28 win and a playoff spot.

Tony Drake only had 2 carries but for 102 yards both for touchdowns (1 for 79 and 1 for 23.) Skyline won the game 56-0 and finished the regular season undefeated.

Tony Drake really excites me. He's the type of slot player that belongs in this offense (instead of just small wide receivers). Hopefully his team will make a deep playoff push and everyone else can see what they're missing out on!

Good news to hear indeed. The slot position should be pretty well stocked for a few years. Does Hopkins run really physical? I know he's a bigger back but that doesn't always mean they're punishing. Was just curious if anyone who has maybe watched vid knew.

At the high school level, Hopkins can definitely lay the lumber. He plays in a really good district at the highest level of football in Texas, on a just above-average team with a pretty much run-only offense. Good defenses know he's getting the ball and few if any have been able to slow him down.

Don't know what he'll do at the next level (since so many variables go into making a successful back), but he definitely has the physical tools to be productive.
