TomVH: WR Spiffy Evans Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

There's probably going to be a lot of offers and news happening in the near future. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it out timely and efficiently. For now, here's this.

WR Curtric "Spiffy" Evans was offered according to TheRinger.com. Spiffy is a 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver from Chaminade Madonna High in Florida.

He's teammates with QB Jerrard Randall, and recently offered Johnathan Aiken, among others.

I've spoken with him before this. The first time, he ended the conversation with Go Blue! He loves the tradition. I'll have more from him tomorrow night.

Here's his highlight video:

I can see it now....

"and Michigan shows a new coverage package... the Blunt brothers roll up in man coverage, FS Spiffy sets to light up a crossing route, and MLB Smokey Bones drops back to get Munchie (legoux)"

A lot of his throws were on the run and you lose a little power when you throw on the run. The kid is also a Jr in HS so I'm sure his arm will get stronger as he grows into a bigger player. I was impressed with how he kept his eyes down the field while on the run and made the defenders respect him running or him throwing. By keeping his eyes down field he found the open man when the DB came up in coverage. Apparently the(UM) coaches are impressed with him as well as he is on their radar as a QB prospect.  I'm sure you know a lot about football since you've probably watched it ever since you can remember. Well I've played it and coached it ever since I can remember so I hope this helps you understand why I was impressed with him. Keep in mind he's only a Jr and I'm sure he's a better QB at this stage of his career than you'll ever be. Here's why I'm impressed with the kid he's perfect for our Off

Woah there Desmond. Are you normally insulted a lot? Because you seem to get pretty defensive awful quick.

The video you posted does show why he is a perfect fit for our offense. As it should because it's his own actual highlight video.

Also,

Keep in mind he's only a Jr and I'm sure he's a better QB at this stage of his career than you'll ever be.

I never played QB in High School, so I don't know if that was suppose to be an insult but nice try.

But when I said I was more impressed with his QB than I was with the WR I was saying that based on his hightlite tape. When Tom said we were looking at his teammates I looked him up and watched his tape. As far as the kid being a Jr.....I was just reminding you the kid was only in the 11th grade so cut the kid some slack.

A Man attacks a kid and you guys give him points and another defends the kid and you guys neg him? Wow that's some logic you guys have going on here. I'm not talking to everyone just the ones who get a kick out of negin someone for little or no reason. Brian really needs to do something about this, because it is truly ridiculous. Someone should be able to voice their opinion and it differs from the popular opinion without getting neg bombed. That's one of the reason I read this board for a year before I ever posted on it. Just too much negativity for no reason...This board has the protential to be a really great board , but due to the large amount of immature posters that frequent here we may never see it reach the level that it could.Well let the neg bombing!

You're not getting negged for disagreeing.  You're getting negged because you're acting all high and mighty over somebody who you don't even know.  The poster you're arguing with could be Rich Rodriguez himself, for all you know.

But congratulations on "playing and coaching football since [you] can remember."

Does it seem like we are offering more WRs than any other offensive position? I understand that our entire class can't be positions of immediate need, but it seems like, on the offensive side, we would hear more about offensive lineman being offered than WRs. Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention to the Olineman offers, but it seems like we are putting a lot of eggs in the Zettel basket.

It's been said before, but it's harder to evaluate linemen than wide receivers, or skill positions. We're not putting all our eggs in the Zettel basket. We already have other offers out there, and we as fans will probably start to here more once camps start.

Thanks Tom.  Count me as someone in the camp of trusting the coaches to get the right guys on campus.  It was just my feeling that it would be nice to get a couple highly rated offensive lineman in this class and it seems like DL, LB, DB, and WR are where all of the offers are going out to. Of course last year I got worried when the large majority of our first 13-15 verbals were from offensive talent and then we finished out the class by signing every defensive position of need, so I guess I am a bit premature in my worry.

3.5 GPA and 23 ACT == fully qualified! I'm getting tired of losing a guy or two each year to non-qualifcation.

I noticed that they played Pahokee, so his team must be a small school as well, correct? I think Pahokee is Division 2 in Florida which is the second smallest division. My only concern about these kids from the small schools is that it might be even more difficult for them to translate their skills from H.S. to the BCS-level of college football. Obviously, there are PLENTY of kids from small H.S. who do very well (especially in Florida), I just think it might be a little harder to project them accurately at the college level.

Tom, you seem to be hinting at some big news coming in the near future...  Besides the Demetrius Hart [potential] commitment, I don't know what you're hinting at.  Hopefully it will be good news rather than bad...

Anyway, Spiffy looks like a pretty good wideout.  Judging by his highlights, I'd take him over DeAnthony Arnett.

1. Watkins
2. Evans
3. Jordan

Watkins has a great combination of size, speed, and agility.  I think he's clearly the top choice of the three.

And I'll put Evans above Jordan because of his ability to run after the catch.  Jordan isn't all that elusive.  It's tough to tell a lot about Jordan's receiving abilities because his quarterback isn't very good.

Spiffy would've been the perfect complement to Toomer.  Chris Berman would've come up with a dynamite nickname for the tandem, one that caused him so much joy that he would have caused himself spontaneous cranial asplosion with severe neural hemorrhaging and acute other bad things.

Win all around!

has a heck of an arm. Probably not our type of QB (though his highlights may include more running), but looks like the kind of guy some lucky school will take.
