TomVH: WR Aaron Burbridge Will be at the BBQ
I know a lot of people have been asking about Aaron Burbridge lately. I spoke with his teammate Devin Funchess today and he told me that Aaron will be with him at the Big House BBQ on the 31st. I posted this in the BBQ Visitor List post, but I figured people probably aren't checking it as often now.
There isn't much new with Burbridge, he still needs to figure out his grades before anything can really happen.
Enjoy some BBQ and bring those books with you! This is the one WR that I would like to see in this class. That is unless Green wants to hop aboard.
The difference between Henne and Morris is that Morris will not need to start as a true frosh, likely. And if he does, he'll have Stokes, Dileo, Jackson and Robinson (and maybe Justice Hayes) before we even get to the 2012 signees, plus at least one true frosh in his class, who could be a big deal.
I agree we should get two, but if we take one it won't be too bad, and we can maybe take two in 2013.
If Morris becomes the 5* top QB of his class we all hope he will, hopefully he can bring in some top WR in the 2013 class. That would be huge as it can often be a position of immediate impact
According to Sam this morning on tka, Aaron now has an academic plan in place and is working to become eligible.
Hopefully he can take advantage of this opportunity to get his grades up and become part of this class with his fellow FHH teammates.
This kid is a beast. It would be great to get him into the class. His highlights are amazing.
I hear Sheldon Day is coming. Any truth?
The more Burbridge is on campus the better
NOW!
I just hope Aaron has fun at the BBQ and gets to meat plenty of recruits that help him want the good side. Losing him to Sparty would be the 'wurst.
No not this again...
well done.
perhaps its better we keep them rare?
Rubbed some people raw.
it was over done
Maybe it's how folks are dealing with all the expiring points...
Like summer school? I don't want to get my hopes up like I did w/ Dorsey just to have the kid now qualify. What a huge get he was then boom...not happening.
Hopefully this kid gets his grades together and we see him in the winged helmet.
No, he is not working to get his grades better at all.
Of course he is. He has a chance to get a free ride at a number of good universities if he just gets his grades in order. I just don't understand why you would put yourself in that position to begin with.
Obviously I would hope he's working towards it, but I don't know him or what he's doing for it. Hence my question of summer school.
I have to hope he's seeing the light and wanting to improve. However, if you let yourself get in this position to begin with, as you stated, it'd be easy to keep letting it slide.
"According to Sam this morning on tka, Aaron now has an academic plan in place and is working to become eligible."
Its a legitimate question - we heard similar things about Dorsey. Plans amount to nothing if they are not carried out. And they poster you are trying to make look stupid is merely asking if Aaron has started carrying them out.
But there's a pretty big difference between Farmington Hills Harrison and Pete's Totally Legitimate Academic School of Academics for the Athletically Gifted (the school Dorsey attended to get his grades up)
I sure hope this kid gets his grades in order. He would fill a great need, and screw MSU in the process.
that if grades were not an issue, Burbridge would already be in the fold. Just Sam's "opinion".
Despite the obvious physical skill, I think my favorite thing about this guy is how he flips the ball to the ref after every play. He seems to embody the idea of acting like you've been there before. I think people sometimes assume that players are bad guys if they have grade issues. I don't think anything could be further from the truth with Burbridge. I hope he gets the help he needs with his classwork and Goes Blue to complete the trio. Good luck Aaron.
Don't want to start a new topic on this, but what are your feelings about Darius Powe, Tom? I hear he's listed us in his top three for now and is hoping to visit and for an offer. He's a 4-start from the same school as Jordan Payton, I believe, and no. 238 on rivals.
Thanks, I knew it was something along those lines. Hadn't heard he was offered yet though.
I talked to him earlier in the week, just saving it for the Weekly Update [I have to save some stuff so I have content for Monday].
Nothing too groundbreaking yet, he wants to visit. We'll see what happens.
I just saw that there is an article about Powe and Michigan on Rivals but it is behind a paywall so I couldn't read it.
Burbridge is the best. I still think he is an elite level WR. This is going to be like Rawls last year...we may not know until late if he is eligible. But man, would I love to get this kid. Hope he works it out.
Agree on Burbridge being the best wideout, even though we have a shot at Payton and Stanford. He just so explosive, has soft hands and is very elusive. I really hope he chooses Michigan after he gets his academics in order.
If the steak tastes legit.
You must commit.
If Burbridge isn't academically eligible does it really matter if he's at the BBQ at the Big House? I suppose getting him on campus is a good thing, but in the end, it could just make him want something he can't have...or hopefully it will help him realize what he needs to do if he decides Michigan is the place for him. Just my two cents.
Yes, it matters. Worst case scenario? Michigan's AD wastes a few burgers on a kid from a football powerhouse high school who has teammates coming here next year.
Let's say, for discussion sake, that Burbridge's shot at qualifying is 50-50 (no evidence to back this up). If we continue to recruit him until then, and he does qualify, we're in his good graces and have a good shot at his commitment. If he doesn't qualify, he's no different than a kid we recruited who went somewhere else.
However, if he qualifies and we had ignored him for the previous 9 months, we probably have less of a shot. He's a major talent and a few people feel he has a good shot at qualifying. I'd be pissed if he wasn't invited just because of that. It might even me one more thing to push him to get his grades in line.
And if we just leave him alone he goes to State. But if we recruit him until the end he could either acknowledge UMs loyalty and try for a JC or NOT go to our rival.
Those are two receivers I want in this class. Stanford and Payton as a second option. Chesson and Madaris as last resorts. All depends on who commits first though.
If we get two from that group it will be a good haul. But I agree with you, Burbridge is at the top. A lot of people have Madaris higher than you do.
Is an interesting prospect. He's a possession receiver with good hands and good quickness. He's not the fastest guy and he won't make that many big plays. He's decent but comes no where close to the other prospects..except maybe Chesson.
Agree to disagree I guess. Madaris is quite fast and is still pretty tall at 6'2". He's a four star to Scout and 247 and almost a 4 to Rivals as well. He has offers from Nebraska and Florida State in addition to Michigan. He's pretty close to being in that same class with Stanford. Powe and Payton.
They all have different qualities that make them unique. I would put him up there with the other prospects, I just wouldn't put him above any of the other receivers as now. I'm glad to hear different peoples opinion without being called a D1ck for my own opinion.
Hahah
Personally, I would like Stanford and Burbridge. I think that would be an amazing haul and two different styles that we will desperately need
I would love to get two different styles this year, but next year I think we can land a top 5 WR prospect that has a DGB type frame.
He sounds like a very talented guy. Judging by the game film I've seen and hearing the way you guys talk about him, seems like our best choice. I was wondering exactly what are the academic qualifications for scholarship athletes to get into U of M? I would assume its a GPA/SAT sort of thing, but am curious about the details. Sorry if this has been covered already in another thread (link please). And I was also wondering if MSU or other Big Ten schools have lower academic standards than we do? I'm kind of assuming the aswer is yes, but was hoping for specifics if anyone knows. Thanks.
