TomVH: WR Aaron Burbridge Will be at the BBQ

Submitted by TomVH on

I know a lot of people have been asking about Aaron Burbridge lately. I spoke with his teammate Devin Funchess today and he told me that Aaron will be with him at the Big House BBQ on the 31st. I posted this in the BBQ Visitor List post, but I figured people probably aren't checking it as often now.

There isn't much new with Burbridge, he still needs to figure out his grades before anything can really happen.

We need to grab two recievers in my opinion. If anybody remembers Hennes first year, having some talented recievers made things easier for him. Now if we flash forward to shane morris it would be nice to have a stable of guys that can stretch the field right away. Burbridge is definetly one of them. The kid is fast, decent sized, and he can really go up and get the ball. I think if we add madaris to that we are in buisness.

The difference between Henne and Morris is that Morris will not need to start as a true frosh, likely.  And if he does, he'll have Stokes, Dileo, Jackson and Robinson (and maybe Justice Hayes) before we even get to the 2012 signees, plus at least one true frosh in his class, who could be a big deal.

I agree we should get two, but if we take one it won't be too bad, and we can maybe take two in 2013.

Will devin gardner be slingin the rock in 2013? Is that what you are gettin at? I just think there could be a possibility as much work as that kid morris is puttin in he could jump to bein the starter although i hope they give him a year. I guess my hope is that they land one guy at the very least wolvinla a guy that can be a threat everytime the ball is in the air. I think burbridge is that guy. I also think madaris is the guy. People are forgetting madaris went to the FSU camp and won the offensive MVP award. The kid can ball he may be flyin under the radar but if you look at his offer sheet it speaks for itself. Good points though wolvinla i sometimes get lost in the shuffle of Michigan talk and forget our past head coach loved recruiting WRS for that spread of his.

Is devin gardner going to be startin in 2013? Sometimes i get lost in the shuffle of Mich football talk, and forget we do have a stable of WRS. Good points wolvinla. Oh one thing people forget madaris won the OFFENSIVE MVP award at the FSU camp kid is a balla anybody who thinks he is slow is crazy. He flew under the radar for a while but his offer sheet is impressive. I believe NEB FSU USC MSU AMONGST ALOT OF OTHERS.

According to Sam this morning on tka, Aaron now has an academic plan in place and is working to become eligible.

Hopefully he can take advantage of this opportunity to get his grades up and become part of this class with his fellow FHH teammates.

Like summer school?  I don't want to get my hopes up like I did w/ Dorsey just to have the kid now qualify.  What a huge get he was then boom...not happening.

Hopefully this kid gets his grades together and we see him in the winged helmet.

Obviously I would hope he's working towards it, but I don't know him or what he's doing for it.  Hence my question of summer school.

I have to hope he's seeing the light and wanting to improve.  However, if you let yourself get in this position to begin with, as you stated, it'd be easy to keep letting it slide.

Its a legitimate question - we heard similar things about Dorsey. Plans amount to nothing if they are not carried out. And they poster you are trying to make look stupid is merely asking if Aaron has started carrying them out.

Despite the obvious physical skill, I think my favorite thing about this guy is how he flips the ball to the ref after every play.  He seems to embody the idea of acting like you've been there before.  I think people sometimes assume that players are bad guys if they have grade issues.  I don't think anything could be further from the truth with Burbridge.  I hope he gets the help he needs with his classwork and Goes Blue to complete the trio.  Good luck Aaron.

Don't want to start a new topic on this, but what are your feelings about Darius Powe, Tom? I hear he's listed us in his top three for now and is hoping to visit and for an offer. He's a 4-start from the same school as Jordan Payton, I believe, and no. 238 on rivals.

I talked to him earlier in the week, just saving it for the Weekly Update [I have to save some stuff so I have content for Monday].

Nothing too groundbreaking yet, he wants to visit. We'll see what happens.

Burbridge is the best.  I still think he is an elite level WR.  This is going to be like Rawls last  year...we may not know until late if he is eligible.  But man, would I love to get this kid.  Hope he works it out.

If Burbridge isn't academically eligible does it really matter if he's at the BBQ at the Big House? I suppose getting him on campus is a good thing, but in the end, it could just make him want something he can't have...or hopefully it will help him realize what he needs to do if he decides Michigan is the place for him. Just my two cents.

Yes, it matters.  Worst case scenario?  Michigan's AD wastes a few burgers on a kid from a football powerhouse high school who has teammates coming here next year.

Let's say, for discussion sake, that Burbridge's shot at qualifying is 50-50 (no evidence to back this up).  If we continue to recruit him until then, and he does qualify, we're in his good graces and have a good shot at his commitment.  If he doesn't qualify, he's no different than a kid we recruited who went somewhere else.

However, if he qualifies and we had ignored him for the previous 9 months, we probably have less of a shot.  He's a major talent and a few people feel he has a good shot at qualifying.  I'd be pissed if he wasn't invited just because of that.  It might even me one more thing to push him to get his grades in line.

Those are two receivers I want in this class. Stanford and Payton as a second option. Chesson and Madaris as last resorts. All depends on who commits first though.

Agree to disagree I guess.  Madaris is quite fast and is still pretty tall at 6'2".  He's a four star to Scout and 247 and almost a 4 to Rivals as well.  He has offers from Nebraska and Florida State in addition to Michigan.  He's pretty close to being in that same class with Stanford. Powe and Payton.

He sounds like a very talented guy.  Judging by the game film I've seen and hearing the way you guys talk about him, seems like our best choice.  I was wondering exactly what are the academic qualifications for scholarship athletes to get into  U of M?  I would assume its a GPA/SAT sort of thing, but am curious about the details.  Sorry if this has been covered already in another thread (link please).  And I was also wondering if MSU or other Big Ten schools have lower academic standards than we do?  I'm kind of assuming the aswer is yes, but was hoping for specifics if anyone knows.  Thanks.
