it is unfair to judge Hoke after so short a time, at least you are upholding the standard set for RR.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
Rich is gone and no matter how much you complain he will go down in the record books as a complete failure, someone who divided the fan base, was coach when Michigan committed serious violations which has never happened in school history, the worst coach in the history of the school, and blamed everyone besides himself when the team didn't perform well. Hoke is the present and the future so get used to it.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
Good point.
Pretty sweet avatar. those fellas in your avatar ain't worrying too much about our recruiting class. Do you think ancient astronauts made them.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
I do!
January 17th, 2011 at 12:20 AM ^
I really don't understand why so many pro-Hoke statements have to be bashes against RR ("blamed everyone besides himself when the team didn't perform well".....that's just a fabrication).
Support Hoke because it's what we've got now. And if people think rationally, it's looking more and more like he'll be successful here, no matter what Brian's paranoia suggests.
But for fuck's sake, let Rodriguez alone, the guy did nothing other than try to coach a team the best he knew how. He wasn't a bad guy and he doesn't deserve this shit that people thrust on him just because those people want to shout down irrational anti-Hoke-ites.
January 17th, 2011 at 12:26 AM ^
I'm not going to comment on the current recruiting class (or lack thereof), as it's going to change 100 times in the next ~3 weeks. However, I would like to comment on one thing you said:
We all better hope RR was not a "complete failure" b/c the kids he recruited will make up 95% of the meaningful minutes next year, and the vast majority the year after that. Or perhaps you want to start true freshmen over juniors & seniors?
Hoke/Borges/etc will need to do a good job coaching (scheme, playcalling, etc), but the talent they have (or don't have) at their disposal for 2011 and 2012, which is a huge part of football, will not be under their control. They are "stuck" with Denard, Gardner, Lewan, Roundtree, Roh, Avery, etc.
I'm rooting for Hoke b/c I'm rooting for Michigan. But Hoke's "present and future" is not his own, and it won't be for 4 years. Think of that when you decide to credit or blame.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
Ya, because decommits and transfers were never an issue when Rodriguez first got the job. Denard is staying, I'd say that is a damn good recruiting job right there.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:39 PM ^
Yeah, it's interesting how the "conventional wisdom" about 20% of the team transferring after a coaching change hasn't come to pass.
January 17th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
...did the season start already and I missed something? Or are we less than a week in from a coaching change? I'm not taking victory laps yet.
January 17th, 2011 at 1:22 AM ^
A few players have tweeted that "everyone is staying." For now I'll take them at their word.
January 17th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
Seriously a broken record, Dudeness. Just stop.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
That doesn't make any sense. Even if it did, it certainly wouldn't be hilarious.
Hoke already has an All-American CB set to visit us, possibly another highly rated DB, and now a solid OL. He just needs to continue to work these next couple of weeks.

"Suicide hotline, please hold"
January 16th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
Ignoring the obvious snark in your post, a quick look at Miami-OH's class shows 13 total commits, two of which are 3* and one not rated. The rest are 2*. There is no comparison.
I am saddened (well, not actually sad, but you know) to see you continue to melt down.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
these kids are RR recruits not BHs, give the guy a chance.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
It happens.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:10 PM ^
The Hurricanes. But yes - Dudeness needs an intervention. This Hoke hiring has induced some sort of psychotic break requiring him to LOL at the first sign of bad news.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
He implied Miami-OH with the NTM qualifier. Either way, he certainly is melting down.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
The days of rr and all of his solid commits Oh wait a minute
January 16th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Hoke can point to some positive activity on the recruiting trail.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
Hoke's priority is the following:
1. Keeping his current players ... don't need a bunch of transfers. It's more important than losing Dee Hart, Jake Fisher, etc. Oh, yeah, and round out his coaching staff.
2. Figure out which guys who are current committed will best fit the his system.
3. Recruit and poach accordingly.
I expect this to be a top 25 class by Feb. 3.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
i love the optimism
January 16th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
Has somebody stolen your account log in etc.? Jeebus guy.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
and has the ideal size, 6-7 260 lbs, to be an OT. Recruited him at SDSU, so why not give him a call now.
January 16th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
There is some Snake Oil in the tank for NSD.
I wouldn't be surprised if some recruits committed to us by NSD for early PT and that a CC has assured that there won't be another in the next few years (I hope!)
January 16th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
Sorry but hoke doesn't use snake oil, RR did.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
or Care Bear Charm ... as long as the recruits come.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Gosh it seems like they are knocking down the doors to get in.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
Maybe that has something to do with the fact that our staff isn't completed yet.
January 16th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
I bet if you were a 17-year old recruit, you'd be able to make a decision 5 days after the HC was hired. Because it's not like a big life-changing decision or anything.
January 16th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
you really dropped it. in the mess of things about 3 months ago you seemed to get it and now you're just being a reactionary troll. return to go. do not college mgopoints.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
What about that Elliot kid we had on the back-burner for offensive line? And for that matter, Kitchen and that SMU CB? If we're hustling in new recruit prospects, when do we brush the dust off these guys? Or did their interest die with the RichRod administration?
January 16th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
Kitchen was all about UM. We could offer him on NSD and we'd probably get a commitment. James Elliot never had an offer, and was probably never going to get an offer unless we got desperate. With a new coaching staff, the chances of him ending up in AA got even lower. James Richardson, 'that SMU CB', probably firmed up his commitment with the CC, but I haven't heard anything definitive to that regard.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
So all may not be lost here.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
I actually like James Elliot more than most. It wouldn't bother me if they made him an offer if they lost Fisher.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
Elliot's a guard, Fisher's a tackle
January 16th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
I was just editing my post that he is probably a little short for a tackle prospect though.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
For what it's worth, even though he doesn't have many meaningful offers, ESPN wound up ranking Elliot at three stars. As to Kitchen, considering none of the services think that poorly of him, I'm just wondering how many CBs we'll try for except for him. Poor lil' crawdad.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
From his scout bio: "“I’m good at pass-pro."
This points out a possible flaw in the our OL is as big as a pro-style OL so everything will be fine meme. It will take some time for Hoke to recruit pass protectors.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
Your blog is so awesome
January 16th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
Cue the "unwritten BigTen rule" and "snake oil salesman in a wizzard hat" comments that the press will eat up. Of course, we can't rely on the media to properly report that literally every BigTen coach has done this at times including Joe Tiller.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
Doesn't matter, Zook isn't a gentleman anyway so Illinois falls outside of the "gentleman's agreement".
January 16th, 2011 at 9:35 PM ^
hey, be easy! thats my alma mater you're talking about!

January 16th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
No one can possibly judge Hoke's recruiting ability on the outcome of this class. Judge him on 2012 but he's severely handicapped this time around.
January 16th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
Flavin didn't do well at the Michigan camp before... but we really need offensive tackles, especially if Fisher looks elsewhere. I think he would be a solid pickup.
And see, the coaches are recruiting! :)
January 16th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Some of this late news today is causing me to lean towards Hoke's direction. Extremely critical of Brandon and his Coaching Crisis Circus, I am going to reserve any judgment of Hoke and his recruiting abilities until after signing day. If he truly has a "recruiting prowess" than he will surprise everybody with a couple of steals, Frost signing, and retaining most of the class. And he will get a kicker.
January 16th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
Kids got a lot of offers. Good sign. Has a tall frame just needs the weight.
