TomVH: Terry Richardson Meeting with Michigan Tomorrow

Submitted by TomVH on

I just got off the phone with Cass Tech DB Terry Richardson and he told me he's supposed to be meeting with Greg Mattison tomorrow. "My coach told me that we're going to meet with the defensive coordinator tomorrow around five. I don't really know what it's about, my coach didn't say anything about an offer or anything, so we'll find out tomorrow," he said.

I also talked to his teammate LB Royce Jenkins-Stone to see if he was supposed to be a part of the meeting, but he hadn't heard anything about it. They both sounded like they weren't sure what to expect, and Royce said he'll probably get some information about it tomorrow from Coach Wilcher.

You'd have to think that this could potentially be an offer coming their way. I don't know if it is, obviously, but we'll find out soon. To reiterate, I don't know if they're being offered, it just seems like it would be the natural progression.

I think he's got a point. I don't really understand how other programs can be offering our state's top players before us.  It just doesn't make any sense - and surely the MI players see we've been offering OH kids...

It just seems natural to offer the top in-state kids ASAP.  It's much easier to offer and explain a later offer to an out of state kid...

It would be one thing if other programs were recruiting Michigan's top players before us, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. As long as we keep in contact, the lack of offer shouldn't really serve as a deterrent.

Just because these guys are 3-star players from Cass Tech doesn't necessarily guarantee them an early offer. Especially in a loaded 2012 midwest class.

This is kinda my point.

Rivals is saying that Richardson has offers from LSU and Alabama and some lesser programs like MSU, Pitt, Iowa.  Plus, he's hearing from Oregon, Nebraska, Boston College, Tennessee, USC and UCLA.

I realize he's hearing from M too and may get the M offer tomorrow, but I just would have liked to see them offer a bit earlier.  Everyone knows the offer is coming, Hoke's been to the school several times,  so why the wait?

If the coaches considered them elite players that we might have to fight for, they'd already have offers.

This is the reason James Ross has an offer.

I'd assume the coaches consider these guys locks if we offer. Therefore, we can gauge the interest of higher rated prospects around the country first. It's never a bad thing to make them sweat it out a bit, and I don't think Wilcher is going to let them make any rash decisions.

For some reason Jenkins-Stone does not get me all that excited.  Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm completely in agreement with your statements.  There are bigger fish in the 2012 ocean to catch.  Cass Tech kids are probably the most certain to choose Michigan when it comes down to it, so why start throwing out offers to them now.

there are only 15 scholarships to give out next year. With the huge hunk of DB's signed in this class, does that mean the coaches will either go after Richardson or Leviticus and not both?

I think if they take two CB's in this class, that one might need to be of the taller variety.

Hoke is gonna recruit the top players on the state of Michigan that fit what he is trying to do. That said he will definitely continue getting players from Mich pipeline schools while also winning over Mich St. Pipeline schools. Don't forget RR was not really focused on recruiting Mich kids because we don't really produce that many players that fit his spread system which I understand bit on the process he damaged a lot of relationships that I'm positive Hoke will repair. The future is very bright to return to the GoBlue of old....The Hokester OS running wild!!!

" RR was not really focused on recruiting Mich kids because we don't really produce that many players that fit his spread system"

That is not true. RR recruited here, though 2008 and 2009 weren't stellar years for the state talent, combined with Dantonio hitting our state triple hard, tag-teaming with his best buddy Tressel and negatively recruiting. This is how your perception was formed, causing you to make that statement above.

Hasn't been on the job for a month.  Come on, people.

Richardson and RJS are both guaranteed to get offers.  It was just a matter of getting their ducks in a row.  And we are going to have about 20 spots, and with the blue chippers in the midwest this season, we will probably see the coaches hold back other mid tier player offers until later.

This is from an article on 247sports talkin to RJS...take it FWIW but it doesnt sound promising

ST.We talked to [Terry Richardson] about this the other day but there is a pretty widespread believe among Spartan followers that there is a bias against Michigan State when it comes to Detroit Cass Tech players and they are going to end up at Michigan. What do you think of that?

RJS: I would say that is false. Anybody can go anywhere they want if they get the right offer. Former Cass Tech players may have went there but I think they all planned that. Terry and I, we are going to try and knock that off. We are going to make sure a lot of schools come in and recruit Cass Tech players. I don't know where Terry is going but he is not going to Michigan.

I'm not surprised at all with the above quote. They pretty much consign with this little number from RJS's twitter account a couple a days ago. "SMFH thats BS!! Im diffently not looking at no more schools in MI!! ALL OF THEM JUST LOST MY INTREST! ALL OF THEM PLAY GAMES

LIFE GOES ON IF U WANT TO SEE ME PLAY COLLEGE BALL COME DOWN SOUTH!"

Wow, so tells how you really really feel RJS!!!

Anyway, it's obvious that there's still A TON of time before signing day next year, but, this kind of tone from them so early on in the process can't bode well for us and kind of concerns me....a lot! Get those offer's out a.s.a.p. coach Brady!
