TomVH: Roderick Ryles Update
Roderick Ryles (6'1", 185 lbs.) is a 2011 safety from Dr. Phillips in Orlando. He's currently committed to Arkansas, but has started to hear more and more from Michigan.
I spoke with Coach Smith a little while ago, but Coach Rod is supposed to call me later tonight. Coach Smith was just saying that they have some more scholarships available and that they were going to stay in contact with me.
I asked if Michigan were to offer him would he consider the Wolverines, since he's committed to Arkansas. He said yes. If you haven't figured out by now, this is a teammate of Demetrius Hart and 2012 QB Nick Patti.
Something to keep an eye on.

... who lived in communist Bulgaria growing up. Her parents loved it.

So if Dee goes blue, then Ryles does too, but if Dee goes to another SEC school, but HA HA goes blue, then Ryles comes with him. But if HA HA goes to Alabama and Ryles goes to another SEC school, then Dee goes blue? Then what happens to Ricardo - is he in on this? I don't know who this Dr Phillips is, but I really like him.

This guy is better than a 2 star,he is commited to Arkansas, and he is from Florida! All your DR.Phillips players are ours.

Bring on the Dix.

if he's a package deal with dee hart then i'll take'm!
September 28th, 2010 at 6:25 PM ^
Well the kid is fast (+) , He can lay the wood (+) , plays D back (+) , I wouldn't mind seeing this kind in a michigan uniform because he has a good base skill set.
September 28th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
... great dreads and a great name!
September 28th, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
Not to mention he attacks the ball like he lays the wood and when he gets the ball in his hands he can run with it. Looks like a play maker possibly. Stars are some times misleading. I know it is a little differnt but how many "small time college" players went on to do good in the nfl...Jerry Rice, Chris Johnson, Joe Flacco, Jay Cutler. Somebody had a eye for talent that would fit there system and i think the same thing goes for our coaching staff..GO BLUE!!

This dude has some sick hair.

Dr. Phillips also have a Linebacker we are now looking at?
Is Ryles more of a Bandit type or a Free Safety type?
September 28th, 2010 at 6:53 PM ^
We have always been looking at Haha. The only other player with a Michigan offer is LaQuentin Smith.

has been saying that Dr. Phillips has a MLB that has had a really good senior year and Michigan has picked up interest in him. I think his name is Darryl Monroe. I will try to find the article that I am thinking of. I'm not sure how much actual interest we have in him but I am fairly certain that is who I was thinking of.

I count one 5-star (Clinton-Dix) a couple of 4-stars (including Dee Hart) and a handful of 3-stars (including Roderick Ryles). That group, by itself, would be a remarkable recruiting class at many universities. With the DP underclassmen, there must be 15 or 20 kids going to FBS football programs. That's astonishing.

I was shocked at how loaded the St. Thomas Aquinas team was last year. 1 five star, 4 four stars, 4 three stars.

from Dr. Phillips this year. They even have a pretty good kicker.

KICKER? Yep, we will take him too.

Maybe we can get a group discount-- baker's dozen or something.

+ Florida is crazy with kids transferring from school to school. HaHa Clinton-Dix is a prime example.
September 29th, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
5,000-6,000 kids. It's a modern, semi-new school, built in an area of suburban Orlando (Turkey Lake Road) that I have seen before. Lots of newer construction, big box stores, etc. They have a tremendous athletic campus. And there is loads of athletic tradition there. Baseball, football, basketball, golf. Johnny Damon went there, I think. And Ty Tryon, the teen golfer who turned pro at like age 17. And, I'm sure, a bunch of guys who have gone on to big college programs, the NFL, NBA, etc. It's really close to the Bay Hill area of Orlando, which is why I was there. My guess is that if Tiger Woods' kids stayed where they were and went to public high school (riiiight), Doc Philips is the school they'd go to. But they are probably going to be learning Swedish now...

Although the stars don't mean everything, think of every stud we've had within the last 15 years...BG (5 star), Woodley (5 star), Leon Hall (5 star), Manningham (4-5 star), Henne (5 star), D Warren (5 star), Branch (4 star).
Having said that, we have had our fair share of 5 stars busts too (see Grady) and 3 star anomolys (M. Hart). Hopefully we put some good players in the secondary in the next few years.
September 28th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
Mike Hart is a stud any way you cut it and your logic stinks
September 28th, 2010 at 9:55 PM ^
I made a comment about Hart being awesome. Did you miss it?
September 28th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
I think he thought you were calling Mike Hart an anemone.
That wouldn't be cool.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
And Justin Turner, Demar Dorsey, Marquis Slocum, though they can't be considered "busts" in the truest sense of the word.
September 28th, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
The guy is a high three-star on rivals. Don't know what all the discussion about stars is about since he is somewhat guru-approved.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:46 PM ^
Wasn't Morgan Trent was a 4 star guy? Yeah, the scouts were a little off on that one.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
Yeah I know! A player like that would never be a productive corner in the NFL with a handful of tackles and a quarterback rush this past Sunday.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
A week ago one of the Rivals analysts (I wanna say Barry Every) watched Dr. Phillps and gave him an A grade calling him a "true ball hawk"
September 29th, 2010 at 1:34 AM ^
i dont think this is a package deal, since Dee was interested in us first and this guy is already is committed. But if it is, let us recall the package deal with Denard and Witty, how'd that work out! 2 star bias my butt...
September 30th, 2010 at 9:13 AM ^
he is also playing in the secondary with a very highly rated safety which may have affected his stars as well...he might be a step slower and not as hard a hitter and it will make him look worse since he is with Clinton-Dix
