TomVH: Roderick Ryles Update

Submitted by TomVH on

Roderick Ryles (6'1", 185 lbs.) is a 2011 safety from Dr. Phillips in Orlando. He's currently committed to Arkansas, but has started to hear more and more from Michigan.

I spoke with Coach Smith a little while ago, but Coach Rod is supposed to call me later tonight. Coach Smith was just saying that they have some more scholarships available and that they were going to stay in contact with me.

I asked if Michigan were to offer him would he consider the Wolverines, since he's committed to Arkansas. He said yes. If you haven't figured out by now, this is a teammate of Demetrius Hart and 2012 QB Nick Patti.

Something to keep an eye on.

I'm NOT trying to start the "OMG STARS R EEVRYTHING v. Pat White was a 2 star" debate... but with Omameh as a quality starter as a sophomore, Vinopal on a the 2-deep, and Carvin Johnson waiting to destroy some people once his knee heals... hasn't this staff earned at least a little bit of the benefit of the doubt on lower rated guys?

to imply that Carvin was late offer. I was trying to defend Blue in SB a bit because I think he's right that the staff has earned the right not to get questioned on offers (at least in terms of spotting talent ... the Dorsey, Kinnard, Witty qualifying type of thing is another story). Still,  we've only seen Ray and Carvin on a handful of plays this year and they're playing at spots where we don't have much depth. We'll know more by season's end and spring ball, but I do agree they look promising.

I like the developements going on here. Cass Tech in Michigan and Dr. Phillips in Florida. Dee is looking more and more blue by the minute. Also if I am not mistaken I think I spotted some dreads hanging out of the back of his helmet.

Glad to see our national image on the rebound. People in my state (Florida) are starting to take notice. I suppose the next natural question would be wether or not he has dreads?

Edit: Yes, in his rivals pic he has some incredible dreadlocks. Wow...

If he can hit and tackle, doesn't take bad angles, and doesn't lose foot races with TE's, I could care less how many stars he has. I never played football but it seems to me that its more easier to play aggressive and not worry about making a mistake when you have faith that the guy behind you has your back and is gonna clean up anything that gets by you FWIW...

Oh BTW I read the statement as sarcasm above as well but I just wanted to throw this out there.

The star system does not matter.  A lot of times a kid is rated lowly is because he has not attended any national camps or combines.  From the film the kid is a solid recruit with good speed.  We need all the DB's we can get.

Uh -oh, maybe I am way too negative but this statement states he has interest right now.   So if Dee is blue, he should still be interested, maybe more.  However, if Dee goes SEC, will Ryles not bother with us.
