TomVH: Roderick Ryles Update
Dr. Phillips safety Roderick Ryles was offered by Michigan. Coach Rod Smith called him and told Ryles that he would've had the offer back in the spring if they had the offers available, but he has an offer now. Ryles was told that the coaches already talked about it and it should be in the mail soon.
Coach Smith told me he wants me to come up for a game, and see what they're all about. I will be coming up for a visit on November 20th for the Wisconsin game.
2012 QB Nick Patti and teammate of Ryles will also be in Ann Arbor for the Wisconsin game. His visit will be an official visit, while Patti's is unofficial since he's still a junior. Roderick is currently committed to Arkansas, but as you can see by these turn of events, things have changed.

...for Ryles, and for the future with Dee Hart and Patti.

4 legit D1 players, plus Ricardo Miller? Wow, what a loaded program.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:03 AM ^
More than that. It was mentioned on Scout last week or so that Michigan's keeping an eye on Darryl Monroe too (6'1, 215-pound LB, currently committed to Washington State).
October 1st, 2010 at 12:56 AM ^
There are plenty of FCS schools I would commit to before I'd commit to Washington St. Just saying, it wouldn't hurt for him to look around a little bit more...

I know it's a terrible program right now, but who knows in 4-5 years? The lure of playing a BCS conference school has got to be pretty big.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^
But in all honesty I would look around instead of WSU. The situation there is so bad that it is a lot like EMU is now, basically in no man's land with a very tough road to improvement. WSU isn't a 4-5 year turn around, it would have to be a very slow build your way back up from the ground. Maybe they offered playing time right away other FBS teams couldn't offer or something, and if you play in a good conference it is easier for scouts to see how you man up against better players, I just think WSU is a real dead end right now for recruits.

Washington State and Arkansas?
Seems like a lot of snake oil is being spread around these days

Dr. Phillips - Michigan's Glenville, properly positioned down South where talent lives rather than in the abolsute hellhole that is Cleveland (and I know because I live in suburban Cleveland!).

Gotta love a kid that is setting records at a school with the talent of his.

Michigan has about 10-11 scholarships available. Plenty of room for all!
GO BLUE!

Tom: Does this mean the coaches are worried about Walls?
October 1st, 2010 at 12:13 AM ^
Sam says that we still lead for Walls.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:13 AM ^
I don't think so. Nothing has changed with Walls. If they didn't have more scholarships to give then that might be the case, but they have enough room for both.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:27 AM ^
It seems that Dr. Phillips is becoming the new Pahokee.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:44 AM ^
but I think Ryles is more of a Bandit or Spur type and Walls is more of a free safety type (although I think Walls could probably play bandit or even CB too)
Seems like we could take Ryles and Walls.

I'll be happy with any and all DBs
October 1st, 2010 at 6:10 AM ^
Didn't qualify- Dorsey, Witty Transferred- JT and Vlad. I think we need plenty of DBs especially if they are going to stay with this style of D. Personally I hope the 3-3-5 is mainly being used because of lack of personel to play a true 4 man front right now.
October 1st, 2010 at 7:57 AM ^
I was hoping the same as far as the 3-3-5, I thought it would be a tool in the tool box not the base D. I would like to see the 4-2-5 be UM's base D in the future.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
I'd like to see a 4-2-5 as well with Mike Martin and Tim Jernigan at DT's. Oh the pain they would inflict in '11.

This makes sense,You know this guy can play and at the end of the year he will have a solid ranking. All your DR.Phillips players are ours.Plus i think the staff does a nice job of finding talent.

The completion of the Dr. Phillips pipeline is going according to plan.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 AM ^
Has he announced his official visits?
October 1st, 2010 at 12:23 AM ^
He's been planning on coming up for the MSU game for awhile now. Still not 100% set, but that's the plan for now.

Thanks Tom!

I live for these tidbits of information......

Patti has been around the program alot. Is he going to get an offer next fall for sure, or is he a recruit that film will be needed?
October 1st, 2010 at 4:06 AM ^
I was under the impression he had a "verbal offer", though I can't seem to find that confirmed anywhere. I think maybe we're not passing out "verbal offers" to juniors because the NCAA is breathing down our necks?
October 1st, 2010 at 8:28 AM ^
I'm pretty sure he DOESN't have a verbal offer. Kids who get verbal offers from big-time programs at this point in their high school careers are the best of the best. I'm not sure how I feel about Patti at this point (we've only seen his sophomore film, after all), but I do know that giving him an offer this early would be a pretty big stretch.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:35 AM ^
We need DBs, safeties and LBs...the more the greater our depth will become. I hope he scraps AR and goes Blue!!!! RR has tapped the Dr. Phillips pipeline.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:48 AM ^
It is about time we got some revenge on the razorbacks for taking DeQuinta Jones last minute. We tried with "Big Tex" last year to no avail hopefully we will be able to take him away this year!
October 1st, 2010 at 7:20 AM ^
check out his shoes.....meant to be
October 1st, 2010 at 8:01 AM ^
very much as always Tom.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:20 AM ^
Good news. We need to load up on defensive talent.
More competition, more competition, more competition...
October 1st, 2010 at 8:45 AM ^
This is nice I guess. But does anyone else find the timing of this offer a bit convenient considering "The Decision" on Tuesday? I mean, I'm happy for Ryles and hope that he's a sleeper in this class, but maybe the offer right now is just a bit more than a coincidence. I'm not sure if this says something about our shaky standing with the current Dr. Phillips stars, or whether this might be running up the score.
Also, does anyone know to what extent Dr. Phillips underclassmen (besides Patti) are viewed as top college prospects?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
I also wonder if this will score us a visit with LaQuentin Smith and possibly delay an Arkansas commitment.
October 1st, 2010 at 8:59 AM ^
So what does this mean for Darren Kitchen? Has the staff just decided to move in a different direction or has he lost interest?
It seems a little strange to basically have a DB locked up and then chase after what seems to be a similar type of kid when the space comes open. Wouldn't you just offer the kid you know you can get in order to shore up the depth?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:05 AM ^
the same thing. He's supposed to visit MSU weekend for his official. Of course, this official has been pushed back several times before. I'd be curious to see if this visit happens, and whether an offer is extended. Any guess, Tom?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:04 AM ^
Can this guy or Walls play deep safety? We desperately need one of those.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:21 AM ^
Walls told me a while ago Michigan was looking at him as a corner but he would mich rather play safety
October 1st, 2010 at 9:21 AM ^
I lived in the Orlando area for about 15 years and there are three high scools that stick out ,Apopka, Dr Phillips and Sanford. There are alot of very good D-1 players that roam the fields on Friday nights.
