TomVH: Quick Recruiting Update

Submitted by TomVH on

In the weekly update on Monday I had reported that 3 star Florida DT Trevarris Saulsberry (6'4", 252 lbs) and teammate 3 star DE Jordan Williams (6'4", 240 lbs) were offered by Michigan. Both are committed Tennessee, and both had told me they are 100% committed to the Vols.

Trevarris told me today that they will be getting a visit from one of the Michigan coaches this week. He's not sure who and he's not sure when, but he knows someone is coming to see him. He still maintains that he's 100% committed to Tennessee and also says if Michigan had been on him earlier they would have a chance.

Michigan will probably have a better pitch if they have a defensive coordinator in place, especially if it's one from the NFL. We'll see what happens, it might be something to keep an eye on.

You can see Trevarris' highlights here, and Jordan's film is here.

Both sound like pretty long shots that are just showing respect to michigan because its michigan (hopefully i'm wrong), but I wish that we were showing more love to Timmy Jernigan because he still has us on his list (rivals), but if not maybe Hoke can pull one of his DT from San Diego

is in a great position IMO to finish strong in this recruiting class.  BH can sell UM, the new DC has experience (NFL) could sway some minds to the young prospects.  Couple of friends playing in a better school, UM has florida ties.  Hopefully the florida Michigan Men can work their recruiting skills!

Are there any big name recruits committed to other schools you could see switching to Michigan?

I feel like Mattison's experience could really help, especially on defense.

Thanks Tom for awesome scoop (as usual).

Question, did you see Hoke's interview with Doug Karsh filmed on Sunday?  He was VERY bullish on the recruitment of this class.  I wondered why.  Do you think his optimism is legit or more of a "I know we will find a way to prevent falling off a cliff"?  He seems somewhat cautious generally, but I noted real bullishness on recruiting this class.  Do you think maybe he thought Mattison was a lock and that contributed to his optimism?

Your insight would be helpful.

Thanks as always.

...the only recruit that we've completely lost that we weren't going to lose anyways (Goudis is now on his third verbal, and Hart was never coming here after what Alabama did for his HS and Ingram declaring) was Dallas Crawford and if we get Taylor we'll have made up for that (Hoke already offered a kicker to replace Goudis that is almost as good).  We haven't lost Fisher yet, with his HS coach being quoted in the news that Fisher still is considering MI.

It's odd... we already have 3 DBs committed -- Hollowel, Brown, Countess plus we have Taylor-McClure visiting and a new offer to Raven.

I know our CB play was poor, but this seems like a huge push for more DBs.

One constant among Hoke's offered DBS (McClure, Raven) and Kitchen -- all are a bit bigger.  I wonder if we will go after Terry Richardson as much with these preferences.

Yeah, it's one of two things - it's either our new staff having a preference for taller corners, or they think some of them could move to safety.  I've heard rumors that Brown, Taylor, Raven and/or Kitchen could move to safety.

I'm sure we won't get all of them, but we might end up with 5 DBs, two of which that are possible safeties.
