TomVH: Ondre Pipkins Named D Line MVP at Nike Camp

Submitted by TomVH on

For those that don't know, there was a big Nike camp at Ohio State this weekend along with an Elite 11 camp. Missouri DT Ondre Pipkins told me he came away with the D Line MVP award from the Nike Camp.

There was some good competition there, I didn't get names I was there to do one thing and that was to get the MVP award. I'm still kind of sitting back with recruiting right now. I'll be up at Michigan sometime in the summer, but that's it for now.

That trip up to Michigan could potentially speed his process along, but we won't know until it happens.

MSU fans seem to be feeling pretty confident about Pipkins (I assume mostly because he's originally from Saginaw).  Any reason to take their optimism seriously?

As seriously as I'll take my friend's (former MSU FB player) statement that MSU has a chance to run off 7 straight wins against us until Hoke gets it turned around.  Not a chance!  I can't wait to witness another meltdown on the RCMB.  I love how the mods lock their treads within minutes when we snag another one of their targets.  It's better than standup comedy, they should charge for this $hit!

Trying not to give away a lot since it's paywalled.

O'Brien is apparently open which we've heard before. If I had to guess his leader right now based on what he said, I'd actually go with Sparty. We're in his top group still.

We're probably right where we though we were with Washington/Stanford. They both like Michigan, but OSU's probably their leader. Both are scheduled to be on campus next weekend.

The rest of the tidbits are basically stuff that's already known.

Given the current relative state of the two programs, Pipkins knows the chances of playing in a national championship game are much higher at Alabama than at Michigan. It'll be a gigantic accomplishment if Hoke can sign him.

were Ross, Ojemudia, Richardson, and Morris.  Richardson had a tight hammy and didn't run drills.  Our guys all apparently looked good.

Others in attendance included Sheldon Day, Danny O'Brien, Kiel, Zeke Pike, Washington, Pittman, and Stanford.

Any idea how the coaches are approaching the scholarship numbers and the way they are approaching DL recruiting?  Wormley, Pittman, Strobel, Washington, Day, Pipkins, Johnson, Jones.

Just too many to fit but it seems like we're going hard for all of them.  Is there a "first come, first serve" approach.  Or are they focusing on some and less so others.

FWIW I read on another message board that Pipkins was hanging with Ross, Richardson, Morris and MO during down time at the camp. That certainly can't hurt our chances.
