TomVH: Ondre Pipkins Named D Line MVP at Nike Camp
For those that don't know, there was a big Nike camp at Ohio State this weekend along with an Elite 11 camp. Missouri DT Ondre Pipkins told me he came away with the D Line MVP award from the Nike Camp.
There was some good competition there, I didn't get names I was there to do one thing and that was to get the MVP award. I'm still kind of sitting back with recruiting right now. I'll be up at Michigan sometime in the summer, but that's it for now.
That trip up to Michigan could potentially speed his process along, but we won't know until it happens.
MSU fans seem to be feeling pretty confident about Pipkins (I assume mostly because he's originally from Saginaw). Any reason to take their optimism seriously?
As seriously as I'll take my friend's (former MSU FB player) statement that MSU has a chance to run off 7 straight wins against us until Hoke gets it turned around. Not a chance! I can't wait to witness another meltdown on the RCMB. I love how the mods lock their treads within minutes when we snag another one of their targets. It's better than standup comedy, they should charge for this $hit!
If MSU's confident that they'll land him, then we might as well start sizing him for maize and blue right now.
247 just had a bit on him. Gist of things: Michigan's in his top 4, Sparty is not. Alabama sounds like a strong contender.
about having one leader, i take it the leader is UT. and are we in the final five for adolphus washington?
Trying not to give away a lot since it's paywalled.
O'Brien is apparently open which we've heard before. If I had to guess his leader right now based on what he said, I'd actually go with Sparty. We're in his top group still.
We're probably right where we though we were with Washington/Stanford. They both like Michigan, but OSU's probably their leader. Both are scheduled to be on campus next weekend.
The rest of the tidbits are basically stuff that's already known.
thanks for the info i kinda figured that about stanford and washington. but the obrien stuff surprises me but then again he doesnt say much
FWIW about O'Brien, that's entirely my opinion. I don't have a clue what he's thinking and I don't think the interviewer does either. Hard kid to get a read on it seems.
From what I've heard Tennessee and Bama are the hot two right now.
Given the current relative state of the two programs, Pipkins knows the chances of playing in a national championship game are much higher at Alabama than at Michigan. It'll be a gigantic accomplishment if Hoke can sign him.
Pride comes before the fall.
Kid would be a huge get if we could land him. Nose tackle with athleticism.
any idea who else was in attendance for D-Line competition? were any M commits there?
I know Mario Ojemudia was there.
thanks, tom. that actually is what i meant. sorry if what i wrote was a bit confusing, but thanks for reading my mind.
Not sure about whole attendance but as far as commits go Ojemudia, Ross and Richardson were there. May have been more and I'm just forgetting them right now...
were Ross, Ojemudia, Richardson, and Morris. Richardson had a tight hammy and didn't run drills. Our guys all apparently looked good.
Others in attendance included Sheldon Day, Danny O'Brien, Kiel, Zeke Pike, Washington, Pittman, and Stanford.
Haven't seen a full list, but odenigbo, and stone were not there
lets hope we can land this kid..
does he claim to have a leader
Tom -
Any idea how the coaches are approaching the scholarship numbers and the way they are approaching DL recruiting? Wormley, Pittman, Strobel, Washington, Day, Pipkins, Johnson, Jones.
Just too many to fit but it seems like we're going hard for all of them. Is there a "first come, first serve" approach. Or are they focusing on some and less so others.
Well that eliminates Pipkins from our list as the silent commit.
then it pretty much has to be Wayne Morgan.
I would be more than happy with that
As much as I like Wayne Morgan, and I do, I'd rather have Pipkins. We need to pick up some DTs and he's a very good one.
I was leaning toward Armani Reeves with my guess for the silent commit.
Pipkins would be great. Fortunately, right now it seems like we have a pretty decent shot at landing both.
Sorry, I seem to have missed something. Do we know there's another silent commit since Godin? I tried a search but I am just getting the older speculation about Godin (and Eduardo Clements).
We received another silent commit yesterday. He's a highly-rated, defensive player from outside the midwest. Circumstantial evidence leads us to believe it's probably Wayne Morgan.
Man I really want pipkins to go blue, the kid is a complete beast.
He's going to be a dominant lineman with whoever he plays for.
FWIW I read on another message board that Pipkins was hanging with Ross, Richardson, Morris and MO during down time at the camp. That certainly can't hurt our chances.
