TomVH: OL Eric Olson Visiting

Submitted by TomVH on

I just spoke to Massachusetts OL Eric Olson (6'6", 265 lbs), and he told me that he will be visiting Michigan on June 7th. He was offered about three weeks ago and would like to make a mid summer decision. I'll have his full quotes in the Weekly Update on Monday as it's closer to his visit, just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Here's his film.

Looks decent.  Tom - what do you think the reasoning is to extend this offer with guys like Magnuson, Banner, Diamond, Simmons, Dodson all having Michigan high.  If we think we can land 3 of those guys, might that offset the need to keep offering more OL?

Extending an offer to someone doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their chances with anyone else. It's really early in the process and anything can happen, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Offensive line is such a big need, so if they don't build relationships now and if something unforeseen were to happen in the future they would be screwed. The coaches can control the situation more than you think.

This kid goes to my high school. I wish I had something to share about this kid specifically, but I haven't been back in a while. If I'm around Boston this fall and this kid is serious about Michigan, I'll definitely go to a game.

As far as the program, my high school hired a new coach circa 2005 and the program has turned around ever since. It was a laughing stock in our league, but since '06, the team is 38-4, winning three straight ISL championships (Lawrence Academy was bopped for recuriting violations). There have been a number of kids who have gone on to play college football, but mostly to BC and some Ivys. BB&N is one of the top schools in NE academically too, so I'm sure this kid could handle the rigors of a school like Michigan.
