TomVH: A Name to Keep an Eye on

Submitted by TomVH on

Keith Lewis is a linebacker to keep an eye on. He's an outside linebacker from Freedom High School in Florida. He stands to put on a little weight, but is already one of the better players in his state

Lewis was offered back in March, and did an interview with ESPN at the time. The Michigan coaches are supposed to be in school with Keith and possibly his teammate, Anthony Harrell, another linebacker, either this coming week, or the next.

Here's a look at Lewis' highlight video. Keith is high on Michigan, and as most people are, is impressed with Michigan's tradition. Just thought I would bring him to your attention, not a commit watch, just a guy to keep an eye on. We'll see how his recruitment progresses, and if Anthony, who likes Michigan as well, will get an offer.

He has gotten the top prospect in 2010 and 2011, so there is some validity to the "Dantonio is taking in-state recuiting" meme. On the whole, I don't care because top players from Florida and Ohio > top players from Michigan, but Dantonio is getting top in-state talent.

It's funny now, whenever I see a TomVH thread I can count on at least half of the comments to be about how awesome TomVH is and the other half commenting on his actual post.

That said, I love you Tom.

Well that's just kind of a running thing with us.  She's an attorney and a member of both the CA and AZ bar because her firm takes cases both places.  She often gets contacted by firms in PHX looking to poach LA attorneys, and because the cost of living is so much more favorable, we've been tossing the idea around for a while.  I work in sales and my jobs still going well, so who knows if we pull the trigger.  I have a cousin in Scottsdale and he's been bugging us to come too.

So I guess it's neither a go nor a no go.  Keep ya posted?

The cost of living is ridiculous here right now, but that comes with other costs, too. It's actually pretty boring here, unless you live in downtown Scottsdale. I don't really want to hang out with guys that wear V necks down to their belly buttons, so I'm out of luck.

If I were you guys, I would stay put. The more I think about it, the more it's like Michigan, but with desert. You can't live downtown Phoenix, because you'll die or get kidnapped (Kidnapping capital of the country), and there's really nothing to do. The weather's cool, but you probably get some nice sun your way.

The sun does in fact shine here.  HOWEVA, we're looking to buy a house and you can't find anything under about 600k and where we'd like to be it's more like 800k.  But we'll see, you never know.

But in the meantime, go get yourself a damn V-neck.

Tom,

You said that he is impressed with Michigans tradition. Do you find that this is true, or a focus of most recruits?

A lot of people are of the belief that these young kids don't know and care about a teams tradition and it never plays into anything.

What is your take from  talking with these guys?

Well, I wouldn't say that they don't care about tradition at all. Specifically for Michigan, these athletes in this class were only 4-6 years old in '97 when Michigan won the National Championship. It's not that they don't care about that stuff, but it's not relevant to them.

Think about it this way, when USC won the National Championship in 2004, they were only 10-12 years old. Unfortunately for Michigan, the past 5-8 years have been about Florida, Texas, USC, LSU, Ohio State, and recently Alabama.

So, it's not that they don't care about tradition, it's just that they grew up with different teams being the focus of attention. I'm not saying Michigan was completely irrelevant, or wasn't having good seasons, but they weren't the big story, or big team like they used to be.

From what I've experienced, the kids that have genuine interest in Michigan, or know about Michigan have a real understanding of it's tradition. When Charles Woodson won the Heisman, like I said before, they were only 4-6 years old, so anyone in this class that didn't follow Michigan probably has no recollection of that.

Thanks Tom.

That's what I figured. Most of these recruits only have what, 10-12 solid years of following college football to draw from.

I wasn't sure if a lot of them took the time to actually research the past and a programs history. Obviously childhoodd fans or ones with SERIOUS interest would, but wasn't sure in general with recruits.
