TomVH: More on the Anthony Standifer Visit

Submitted by TomVH on

Illinois DB Anthony Standifer is visiting Michigan today [Wednesday]. He's coming with his mom, dad, and teammate 2013 WR LaQuon Treadwell (6'3", 190 lbs). The sophomore receiver has been in contact with Michigan, and was also named to the 2010 Illinois All Area First Team.

We're all going up, and LaQuon [Treadwell] is coming too. The visit is really for all of us to see it. It's a new experience for us so we don't know what to expect. We'll ask some questions, but we don't really have any specific ones right now. I just want to see the whole campus and facilities, and especially the stadium. I'm excited to see the stadium. After this I'll think about everything and hopefully I can take visits to Notre Dame, Iowa, Wisconsin, MSU, and Illinois.

Standifer doesn't currently have offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, or MSU but he's been in contact with all of them.

I'm not sure what will happen on this visit, but it sounds like he would like to wait a bit before making his decision. Visits can sometimes change feelings, emotions, and decisions but I don't think Anthony knows yet. I would guess he'll wait to take visits, but wouldn't be shocked if he pulled the trigger either.

If you read this Anthony, enjoy your visit!  We would love to have you but regardless, enjoy the amazing campus and stadium.  Michigan is a family and once you bleed blue you'll learn to hate the color red.

Go Blue!

There's a post over on a ND website that Standifer is visiting South Bend on Thursday. Not sure if that's good or bad or even true, but thought I would pass it on.

Does Treadwell have an offer from Blue yet? I would find it hard to believe that Standifer doesn't pull the trigger on this trip if he wants a spot for himself. Thanks Tom.

going.  Hoke et al. are making HR decisions that will decide their fate in these first couple years at least.  QB/OL and DL needs are getting squeezed by talented mid size football players.

It's a weird world in CFB these days - but the early commits to date give me pause to think this staff knows exactly what it wants which in an ocean of 17 y.o. innocence is a pillar of stability.

Regardless of whether Standifer comes to Michigan he is going to land in a good place. There's more talent out there than Michigan is going to be able to fit.  There is hope in Sparty land.

It's not all about Standifer either.  It's about relationships.  Hoke will tell it like it is and move on if it's not there.  I think Standifer is a rare talent.

Ok.. where exactly are we getting squeezed on recruiting our OL DL situation?

Tom has us in good shape for some of the best talent in the country they just havent decided that Michigan rules and everyone else drools yet.

Sincerely tho, we have room for a solid DT/SDE and 3-4 OL.. dont tihnk we NEED to take  a Q this year considering Morris, however an elite talent would be nice.

step down in talent.  I don't think we need a QB of poor quality but we need a QB.  If injuries hit on the DL we take a serious step down in size and talent.  300+ lbs with talent @ DL are rare.  We don't have enough proven talent on the DL.

This class is filling up.  The staff has to look at depth at some point.

At QB if Denard goes down we have Devin for the next 2 years, followed by a true freshman. In 2013 when Devin starts, we'll have one of the most talented QB prospects in the nation coming in. So unless Denard leaves early (which meanshe had a GREAT season this year), where are we hurting? You can say you want a QB, but it's not the scariest spot.

<br>And people are worried more D-Linemen than we can take are going to want to come here. We need some Tackles, but I don't see the problem; we're bound to get some of them. If you wanted to worry about the O-line right now, I guess I could see it on numbers, but we're recruiting well there too.

around.   We haven't seen anything from Bellomy yet - he might not fit.  DR might not get Borges.  Gardner is solid - but things happen.  Taking a QB a year keeps talent where the ball is.

Standifer has commited - I'm happy for Michigan and him - but technically that leaves 4 spots.  I don't want to count on attrition to get the talent we need (people are all giddy in an ESSEEESSEEE kind of way - we aren't going to take 25 w/o cold shouldering kids who are and have worked hard.)

4 spots for 3-4 (5?) OL 2-3 DL 1 QB, 1 WR and a RB.  That's a minimum of 8 needed players.   That's not counting Morgan if he commits.  Washington is a talent I would sacrifice for at DE - he could start from day 1.  Other than that Marshall and Agholor are stellar got to make room guys.

Anyway you cut it - this class is great but not balanced by what we need.

Per above I don't want a sub 3 star QB - but I would like a Mignery type who could play tight end.  Desmond Morgan or Avery could play QB if disaster struck as well.  I don't want to go back to walk ons at QB.

He says he's not expecting anything today, that Standifer wants to go through the process.  And who could blame him

But the coaches have made it clear, w/out pressuring him, that there are several DBs high on Michigan at the moment.  Apparently when Richardson committed, Standifer and his family were asking about what that meant for open spots.  So it sounds like there's an understanding from all involved about where everything is at.

Hope he has a great visit

Hope to Standifer having a great visit with his family.  I can wait on his commitment, hopefully.  At least everything is looking great with Wayne Morgan for tomorrow!

This year has been outstanding. Coming in as a freshman for the 2008 season, RR's first, has given me the 3 worst seasons of Michigan football that I can ever remember. Here's hoping that Hoke and co. can turn it around in the next 2 seasons, and I'm more excited about the team's prospects than I have been since Tate took us to a 4-0 start in 2009. Go Blue!
