TomVH: LB Royce Jenkins-Stone **DB Terry Richardson Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

Coach Wilcher called Cass Tech LB Royce Jenkins-Stone and told him he has a Michigan offer. "I'll go up there (to Michigan) for a visit. I've been up there so many times, but I'm going to get as many offers as I can. I'll probably make my decision either the middle of the season or at the end," Royce said.

His teammate DB Terry Richardson was just offered by Michigan as well.

so much for Dantonio owning the state of Michigan.  Am looking forward with glee, to Hoke's 2012 class that takes these top 4 players in the state, among others.

in no order..

I don't understand this kind of logic, which seems to have proliferated after the Hoke hiring.  Sending out offers to kids in MI does not mean that we own the state of MI.  The kids have to, you know, accept the offers before we can declare victory over Dantonio.

After reading some of Jenkins-Stone's quotes in interviews and on Twitter, I wouldn't be entirely pissed if he decided to go somewhere else.

For a guy who appears to only be a 3* talent, he sure felt entitled to a very early offer.

Isn't he in the Rivals250? I thought that meant he'd probably be a solid 4*..

Either way, I agree that he seems to be a little cocky. As long as he shuts up and plays good football, I'd be happy to have him here.

EDIT: never mind, I don't know what i was thinking. there won't be that many 4*.. sorry about that!

I think Richardson will probably be a 4*, but Jenkins-Stone will probably be a 3*/4* borderline guy. My guess of him ultimately being a 3* is based on his offers thus far.

I think it's WAYYYYY too early to judge players by their offers so far.  They can't even receive official offers for another 6 months, and NSD just passed us by a week ago.

I do think Jenkins-Stone is a borderline 3-star/4-star player, like you said, but that's not because of his offers.

Which of his tweets make you say this? Out of curiosity, were you one of the people who soured on Arnett after his Twitter ordeal?

I think part of RJS's frustrations prior to this day may have been motivated by the fact that he really wants to go to Michigan. I don't really see a problem with that. He seems to be very excited about his Michigan offer, so we'll see.

It's nothing too outrageous, but he went out of his way in an interview to say, "Terry Richardson is not going to Michigan", and he was saying things on Twitter like, "I'm definitely going down south for college. These Michigan schools are playing around and not offering me. I don't even like Michigan anymore." All of this was just because he was angry about not being offered quick enough. I'm sure there is already some negative recruiting going on from other schools as well.

If his head is already that big as a high school junior, though, I can't imagine what it will be like a year from now.

I think Hoke and company need to do something similar to what Georgia did with the instate recruits this last year. They declared them the "dream team" and said that they would be the ones to get UGA out of mediocrity.

Say what you want about the SEC and recruiting, but I thought this was a pretty cool thing to do. Makes the instate kids feel important and sought after. It also helped them land Crowell, Drew, etc.

The Michigan "Dream Team":

Royce Jenkins-Stone

I agree Cali on your idea of the Dream Team, however I would make it the Michigan/Ohio states and would add to the following "UM Dream Team" from our neighbors in Ohio:

Chris Wormley

Ifeadi Odenigbo

Pharoh Brown

Tom Strobel

Bam Bradley

Allen Gant

William Mahome

Sam Grant

Greg Kuhar

Mason Monheim

I don't love the idea of declaring these guys the guys who will "get us out of mediocrity."  I think that you can tell them, they will be the "top recruiting class in the country" or the "top recruiting class in M history that will make up a dream team," but saying that they will deliver us from mediocrity is sort of a negative shot at the players currently on the team, who hope to bring us out of mediocrity before these kids arrive.

I dont see how the current players would disagree that at best they have been mediocre. They certainly would not call themselves good, as a team. I dont see how this would be a shot at the current team members anyway.

They have all played with heart, toughness, and a desire to win. They will continue to do that. This would be little more than a recruiting tactic. It might have the opposite effect even, and light a fire under the current players and make them work harder and play harder. Who knows. It all conjecture anyway and its not going to happen.

off of a 7-5 team. 8 games at home including most of the toughies.  9 wins is medicore? As to making them work harder, can they?  From everything I've read or head these guys bust their butt, but are just extremely young.  Maybe it would piss them off and since most haven't RSed yet they say screw you I'm out of here.  They would still have their two or three years of eligibility left.

glad to see that Hoke is going after these kids. Here's hoping for a great class in 2012 and for years to come. Once the world sees that we are stable again I think recruiting should get a lot easier.

As I've mentioned before, I'm not a fan of small corners.

However, for whatever it's worth, Richardson looks like the best midget corner of recent Cass Tech vintage.  I wasn't a fan of Cissoko, Mathis, or Hollowell, but I'm okay with the offer to Richardson.  He's more of a playmaker than the other three, IMO.

Good for these two. Richardson looks to be on the smaller, but he looked very quick/fast and seems to have great ball skills. RJS seems to have a great frame & athleticism to be a good player at the next level.

Congrats to both of these young men and I hope to see them both wearing a winged helmet in the future!

I hear ND, USC, and Miami might follow.

Our telling him that he was already offered seems a bit awkward.  We need to bring this kid in now.  I don't understand how we meet personally with Richardson but place a call for Stone.  This just seems a bit odd.
