TomVH: LB Joe Bolden Update

Ohio LB Joe Bolden (6'2", 225 lbs) was up at Michigan around two weeks ago. If you don't remember, you can see his visit reaction here. Bolden came away very impressed from the visit last time.

I spoke with him tonight and he told me that he will be back up to Michigan next Tuesday (April 12th) with his parents. He also told me that he believes he is close to a decision, he's just not sure when it will come.

I should also point out that Michigan commit OL Caleb Stacey has been recruiting Bolden and trying to get him to come to Michigan. We'll see what happens.

Information from TomVH is very much like an essential mineral or vitamin that our bodies need on a regular basis.  It may very well have its own space on the elemental chart.  This site should have nutritional stats listing the percentage of daily recommended TomVH info that is offered on every serving at MGoBlog.  Could you imagine how much better the world would be if Cocoa Krispies were fortified with TomVH information???

It's something that you can never OD on!  In fact the FDA recommends that you get at least one serving a day of TomVH.  They say that the more you get the healthier you will be.  It can cures all!!

I admittedly don't follow or remember recruiting stuff as much as most people on the board, but I seem to remember people being confused and kind of pissed that the staff passed up on Lucien specifically because WR is going to be a position of need in the next year or so.

Subsequently, they're not candidates to not receive a 5th year. I'm not the coaches so I'm not the one making the call but Cox and TRob are the only ones in that group who haven't been significant contributors thus far and are in positions where we actually have a bit of depth.

Bolden's a 4-star (#27 OLB) to Scout and is ranked 16th in Ohio by OSU's Rivals site (3rd best LB in the state).

Point to make regarding the RJS/Ross debate. There may not be room for 4 LB's. That said, if we land Ringer and Bolden, it's not as if we're given schollies to scrubs. Both are arguably the top LB in Ohio and should be 4-stars (or high 3-stars) if that matters for you.

Do I want RJS and Ross? Absolutely. But if there's no room for them because we've got Ringer and Bolden, I certainly won't be disappointed.

Michigan is going to take the players they want if those players want to commit.  If Ross wants to come here, I would imagine the coaches will squeeze him in, even if it comes at the expense of another recruit's commitment.

I'm wondering this same thing too.  I think Bolden is a great prospect, but so is Ross, and Ross is coveted by our rivals more.  With Ringer seemingly committing, and Bolden looking good, I fear it may drive Ross to a certain hated rival, since they are being recruited for the same positions.  I think part of recruiting is denying your foes what they desire as well as getting your team what they need.

We probably need at least one player at some of the skill positions and a quarterback. Defensively, we're going to be looking a few linebackers and may be a defensive back? We have 20 schollies?

I do think they want 6 OL and 2 TEs.  However, if we get 4 LBs who commit early, we could handle taking 5 OL and 1 TE to make room for them, since they are all high-talent guys.  This is, of course, if we don't have attrition to make room.

We need 5 OL and a TE, and taking more than that is a luxury.  I don't think we turn down Ross or RJS for a 6th OL or a second TE, unless the 6th OL is a big, big name.

The coaches have told recruits "We're going to take six offensive linemen."  So I'm going to trust that over speculation.  Three linebackers would give us plenty.  Five linemen still wouldn't give us a stellar number of players for 2012, especially with the washout rate of offensive linemen.
