In Rod We Trust. It seems like we always over-emphasize the bowl games, but gosh... a bowl win would make it so much harder to fire him.
Thanks Tom VH for your great updates, as usual.

Michigan is not in disparate need of a running back. It needs good defensive players. Good running backs out of high school are a dime a dozen. Certainly good quarterbacks can make a difference and are coveted. Not the same for running backs.
If Hart decides to go to Florida god bless him. I doubt he will be missed at Michigan.
Let my neg be the first of many.
possibly the best back in the class and could win high sdchool all american player of the year? no big loss though.
... You're joking, right?
Did you see our non-RB based rush attack? The QB carried more than the RBs combined in most of the games. We need a quick all-purpose back like Hart.
Think Steve Slaton at WVU.
In that case I firmly believe Dee Hart will be at Michigan come fall.
I don't see RR going anywhere because DB knows what kind of a coach he has. Doesn't change the fact that making an announcement sooner rather than later would help the situation out though.
If it were this simple, and DB "knows what kind of coach he has" than he would have just made his announcement and been done with it, securing Dee's committment, helping RR recruit during this critical recruiting month and ending the media circus surrounding our program.
Great news. It sounds like he's willing to keep his commitment even with the lack of haste from Brandon. This makes me smile.
DB's job is to initiate a performance review every year on his coaches. He's not going to do it until their season's done. He has never said once that he is waiting to make a decision on RR. That's all been us/media. He HAS said he's not ready to do his review yet.
Even once his review is done, there's still only a decision IF he thinks change is necessary. Should he do the review and not feel head coach change is necessary, there will NEVER be a decision. In essence, we're all waiting around anxiously for nothing.
Like it or not, DB is not "wasting" time, whether it's "convenient" for others or not. He certainly should not be encouraged to make "hasty" decisions at his level.
This reasoning is naive. In the corporate world, this would make sense. But we are not in the corporate world - we are a major college football program that is covered extensively by the local and national press.
This press coverage is followed by recruits, fans, alum and donors. While in the corporate world, failing to make public the result of a performance review would be ordinary and would not harm the company, that mentality does not apply to D1 college football.
Failing to announce his "decision" can only further hurt recruiting, and likely donations. Recruiting is the lifeblood of our team - this should be obvious after the past three years and the "Decimated Defense" Diary that has made its way around this blog a million times. Donations are equally important, because they pay for the facilities that allow us to recruit, they allow us to apy coaches anough to keep them and they allow us to do more to market our brand (which again dovetails into recruiting).
As for making a "hasty" decision, I do not think that anyone on this board - including those that, like me, have become frustrated with DB's timetable - wants that. But DB has had a full season to evaluate RR. He has seen the results of the past three seasons, witness the level of progress, met with the players, met with the coaches, spoken with former players and alum. To me, making a decision at this point would not be hasty, it would be timely. Most other ADs don't seem to have trouble making this decision after the close of the regular season.
So, in summary, I just don't get why you (and I am not singling you out) are treating DB's decision -and that is what it is - as an ordinary corporate performance review. It is not. This "decision" will largely shape the future of our program.
One note: I have seen this theory in many of these threads: DB is waiting to make his announcement because he wants Harbaugh and does not want to put Harbaugh in a Les Miles type situation where he has to choose between the M job and his team on the eve of a huge game. If this is his reasoning - agree or disagree with the decision - then this would justify his delay. If this is not, and he is just going to keep RR, then in my mind just get on with it and let's restore some sanity to our program.
Brandon never stated there would be a "firing decision". He has merely stuck to his story that he reviews coaches performance at the end of the season.
On top of that, he's stated multiple times since February that Rich Rodriguez is the coach of Michigan, and specifically in response to the NCAA violations he has stated, "Rich Rodriguez will be the coach." Despite this direct and clear statement, the question is asked over an over.
I don't notice any other AD's around the country issuing press releases to confirm that indeed their coaches are staying. So is is hardly standard practice in Division 1 football that Head Coaches must be confirmed annual in a press release.
So in my estimation you are the one being naive. Because after months of examples where the media makes up their stories the way they want, ignoring the direct answers to their questions, you actually believe that if David Brandon said yet again, "Coach Rodriguez is the coach at Michigan." then suddenly all of this media story creation will go away.
But probably there is nothing that will convince you that a decision doesn't exist, any more than the media could be convinced by someone directly answering their questions.
between giving a performance review and deciding whether to retain someone. You can tell someone they've had an average year so no bonus, but you've still got a job. If all we were talking about reviewing the coach's performance, DB could say I'll review his performance, critique some things and discuss how I expect improvement in the future. If he did, then all this angst would end. The fact that he hasn't done something like that speaks volumes to me.
Well I think RR should stay so Dee should stay blue
thanks Tom for the update
That's the reason we should base our coaching decision on.
was saying we should keep RR in order to keep Dee. He was saying he thinks we will keep RR and therefore we will keep Dee.
You hear that DB. If you have heart we get Hart.
Horrible pun I know.
DB should know that his decisions could leave us all hart-broken.
But srsly, thanks for the update!
Do you feel he's being genuine? Florida already has Mike Blakely.
Yes, I do. Alabama is just as logged jam. He would fit in way better with Florida's offense, since he wouldn't at all as a running back at Alabama.
although as long as Addazio is Florida's OC, I think he'd fit in better playing cricket or Quidditch.
Impossible. He needs wings to truly fly. Another reason to Go Blue, Dee.
Oh yeah - thanks, Tom. I'm sending you a cyber chest bump in the form of an MGoPoint (2 actually).
just wanted to point out you have 1997 points... i think you should keep it right there...
Or failing that, hurry up and get 2011.
a relief to me. I really feel like RichRod will stay put, and therefore so will Dee. And it only makes sense that he'd want to play in strictly a spread offense. Thanks Tom
Good Luck at Florida Dee...One player will not hold this team hostage. RR has to go
Sorry Mr Walmart Slappy...I graduated from Michigan. RR has to go and since Dee won't come to A2 without him...Good Luck to him
not a Sparty but still a Dick.
and when I was there, they thought us that an ellipsis isn't the same thing as a period.
Because grammar on an internet board determines a Michigan Grad? Do you guys love the program or do you love Michigan. The experiment failed.
Like Bo said, you idiots know who Bo is right? Its about the TEAM. No man is more important than the team NO COACH is more important than the team. This team is struggling with this new style. Time to get back to what we do well.
Go hang out with Chong brah
"This team is struggling with this new style"
Struggling to 6th best offense in the nation. UNACCEPTABLE.
Why not number 1? I AM ANGAR
7-5...3-5 in the conference without a single signature win. The offense gets a majority of their yardage against nobody and when we are trailing by 2-3 touchdowns. The defense is absolutely horrid. All that falls at the feet of one person...Rich Rodriguez
You are a tool.
I do like how you said the offense gets a majority of their yardage against nobody....as if the season weren't over and we hadn't already played everyone we were going to play in the B10.
Again, you are a tool.
Time to get back to what we do well - Which is lose to App St? Like many of us on this board - it was probably the worst day of our lives...but it personified that the Michigan old guard which had worked in the past was over and we had to prepare for the future. We'll always treasure our past and its our DNA but its not going to work moving forward. Not sure if RR is the right guy. Sometimes, like after IL, I hope he is and sometimes, like after tOSU, I hope that he is not. Time will tell - Jany 4th, after Stanford's Bowl we should find out.
You are a very lucky person and I am extremely jelouse if a loss in a football game was the worst day of your life.
LCs last couple of year's recruiting is what failed. RR has had two recruiting class and picked up a couple kids at the end of LC's last class, notably Odoms and Roundtree. If you can determine that he has failed despite having recruited nothing but freshman and sophomores and has almost the whole returning you should be an AD preferable at another school.
Yes, I know who Bo is and I also know he would have kicked JH's ass for his comments about the program and academics if he were still alive.
I don't agree with cheech. But I am sick of hearing people bag on Loyd Carr like he knew his last recruiting classes would leave for grade reasons get hurt and transfer. Allso sooner or later this program becomes Rich Rods and we can't blame Loyd anymore for what is going on. I can't wait for this to happen. As it will mean Rich Rod is still here and people will have to stop bitching about a man who has given more to this university than any of us ever will.
And would Bo have kept Carr and Hart quiet, afterwards?
And FYI, Bo would have made sure that Harbaugh got the job in the first place.
Bo would support RR 100% since RR is one of his favorite coach in the country(Kirk Ferentz being the other).
Finally some words of wisdom here. There is a correlation with points and Walmart Slappy, but moreso points with RR Slappy. And I'm beginning to notice, the only true and genuine Blue are the ones like us with NEGATIVE points. There are a few Spartys mixed in, however.
I get it, you have negative points because you're a true Michigan fan and you're being unfairly persecuted. It has nothing to do with the quality of your posts or your (in)ability to support your opinions with facts.
While people may get negged for most anti-RR posts, simply because the majority of the board is pro-RR, I think the negs really rain down when someone spouts vitriol toward Rodriguez. After three years, there's a legitimate debate to be had over whether he's improved enough to keep the job, but the anit-RR crowd that insults him and makes conclusory statements like "the experiment failed" when the "experiment" isn't over yet is the crowd that really gets negged. Thoughtful, respectful debate doesn't generate a lot of negative points.
just like to look at the offense, but forget that the defense was the worst in the history of the program. Not close to being the worst, but the ABSOLUTE, No ?'s asked worst ever.
It's easy to blame Greg Robinson, but that also falls on RR. The Big East Defense and Offense has failed to produce in the Big 10. Time for a change.
Harbaugh ran a type spread offense in San Diego. He can use it now in the transition till he gets it back to the more pro-style. Dee Hart and Denard can be successful under Jim Harbaugh
EDIT: Meant to be a reply to RBW's post above. Cheech is the kind of idiot who makes baseless conclusory statements that I was talking about.
I agree 100%. While I hope that RR gets another year, I realize that there's a pretty significant chance that he doesn't come back. Reasonable minds can certainly disagree about the best course to take, but if I had a vote, I'd say he gets one more year. I personally won't neg anyone for having a different opinion, but the kind of people who say shit like "nope, won't work in the big ten" deserve all they get.
They "thought" you or they "taught" you?
Pull the post...I have no idea to what you are inferring.
Avery Walls, on his Facebook, wrote about his conversation with Dantonio
Michigan never had a chance with either player or MSU never had a real chance? In both regards you wrong. While Arnett was a long shot for Michigan, Avery Walls was and is still a possibility albeit he'll probably go Oregon.
Listen, unlike many of you, I can log on here and share thoughts without my Maize and Blue glasses on. Folks around here need to be more realistic and open to discussions that may or may not be in favor of Michigan.
IMO RR needs to go. I don't hate the man and actually had hoped he had succeeded, but he hasn't. How much longer do we give him?
Since you are not Dave Brandon, I really don't care what you think or write. You may or may not be a troll, but you are clearly trying hard to start a flame war. I chose to ignore posters like you.
And I implore the rest of mgoboard to do the same...
Start a flame war because I gave my opinion? What side of the DIAG do you sit on?
On a thread about Dee Hart and his commitment to Michigan, you keep trying to make a case to get rid of Rich Rod. Since you keep trying to hijack the thread, if your not trying to start a flame war...what are you trying to do?
You're kinda like that guy who wore a LeBron James Heat jersey to a Cleveland Indians game over the summer. You had to have known this was coming...the Mgoblog community is overwhelmingly pro-RR.
Also, when you say inferring in a post above, you meant referencing. But, you were probably an engineer here, so English grammar wasn't a concern, amirite?
Lastly, can you please inform me of any other quippy phrases you have that reference anything Michigan-related? If not, it could get Ugli, Dude.
Dave's not here.
actually david...you suffer from thinking youre more important than you are, being a mod and having a ton of points only gotten by appeasing to the lowest rung masses. maybe you should reflect on the program being the worst in history, and your outstanding mgopoints.
How much longer do we give him?
Brandon's first really difficult decision will be whether to give Rodriguez a new contract or extension before his fifth year. Rich's fourth year is not likely to be spectacular enough (i.e., beating both Nebraska and OSU) for it to be a no-brainer. It will be a tough decision -- waiting could be expensive.
wouldn't he want Rodriguez to stay?
We didn't put up much of a fight with MSU this year.
We made mistakes on O that cost us 21 points and gave up for huge plays that resulted in 3 TDs and a first and goal at the nine. We also played the whole second half without Martin after a nice illegal chop block that made him mostly ineffective the rest of the year.
a typical phrase ive heard after every Lions game the last twenty years.
Knowledge of certain doom against Alabama has forced them to regress to their favorite hobby: MGoBlog trolling.
Eat yourself, Cheech
Fade to bolivian references make me so happy, +∞ if I could.
I HEAR THART!
Now maybe all the "Dave Brandon! Timeline! Recruiting! AAAARGHHH" idiots will shut their mouths.
Man I'm glad I stayed up to read that.
With Alabama set to practice at Dr Phillips, I thought it was all over. Awesome news
Interesting turn of events. I'd love to have Dee in the maize and blue, but I guess DB will decide that.
Nothing like a little late night update. You log on, not expecting anything, then, BAM, TomVH post. Nice little bed time story.
Good man. Although if RR gets once more year and doesn't capitalize, he could transfer.
You sir are a bastion of sanity in this crazy crazy time.
I'm relieved by the duo of attitudes some recruits seem to have about the coaching change. Hart comes out and says he's here as long as Rodriguez is, even if that isn't clear until January. I was afraid the ambiguity of the situation would scare some commits away to calmer seas, but this is evidence that guys are willing to wait and see what unfolds. On top of that, Devin Lucien, taking an opposite view, mentioned that the coach isn't a big deal for him. He's more interested in the tradition that Michigan has, which will be present no matter who is caoching. I think sometimes we forget that some guys want to play for Michigan/USC/Notre Dame/Alabama, etc., because those schools have heaps of tradition. Not every school has to have a John Calipari who convinces each player that he's the best coach for them, no matter what school it is.
Some, like Hart, can wait out this process to see what unfolds (if they feel like it, remember we have been recruiting him hard for 2 years) - they know with certainty that if they change their mind at the last second they will still have their pick of any school they want.
Others, even high 3 star/4 star types, will not want to chance waiting around for DB to make a decision. If they are down to 2-3 schools and spots are filling up at other schools, they will feel enormous pressure to commit elsewhere. Waiting around for Michigan is a huge risk for these kids and we have a greatly diminished chance at landing them.
Still others will be here no matter what because they grew up liking the school or do not have any comparable offers.
I'm worried about the second category here and trying to fill the gaps with 2nd and third choices that will commit because we are the far superior option.
For being 17-18, that seems to be a smart, informed, and mature choice.
Well, that seals the deal. This long, drawn out process will have no repercussions besides bags under RR's eyes. Incidentally, this has to affect Brandon's decision, whether he admits it or not.
You honestly believe that the decision of one 18 year old kid is going to sway Brandons decision?? Are you serious??
Brandon has the well being of the whole athletic department tied to the success of Michigan football....one HS kid is not going to be any part of Brandons eventual decision.
When he's the #1 overall RB in his class and the top-rated 4* on Rivals it might make a slight difference. Plus there's plenty of other characters out there we're looking to sign.
Then at schools like Mich, OSU, Texas, Fla, Ala, you could never fire a coach based on the recruits possibly coming in next year being recruited by the coach that is possibly getting fired. College football programs can't be held hostage by a HS kid in regards to who is going to be coaching the program.
Right, but Hart said in the article that he specifically wants to play in a spread offense, which is why Florida is now the second choice. Alabama does not run the spread. Harbaugh does not run the spread. Hiring Harbaugh eliminates one of the best recruits in this class.
One recruit does not make the difference between success and failure for a coach. It's certainly a credit to RR's skills as a recruiter but I'm not arguing that Hart alone justifies keeping RR as HC.
So what? One recruit DOES NOT make a program. If Brandon feels the need to fire RR for the overall well-being of the football program, guess what? He will! It doesn't matter to Dave Brandon then if Dee Hart them commits to Florida.
Gotcha, RR has for sure proven he can recruit the O side of the ball here at Mich. Im sure Brandon sees that, but you're right, there is no argument based on one kid for keeping RR, if Brandon feels that he needs to go.
one of the knocks on RR is the recruiting drop off. well, he has several 4* on board and a few others waiting in the wings. this would be his best class to date if a few of those "wait and see" recruits sign on.
if DB properly shows a long-term perspective, he retains RR.
I disagree. Do you think Michigan's coaches, players and fans' input matters but committed recruits' input does not? Or do you think he's not listening to anybody?
Dave Brandon is not an unfeeling robot. If recruits speak glowingly of Michigan's coach, it must influence his decision.
Not likely...he won't be swayed by the statements of one player who is still in high school.
Besides, if he brings in a coach like Harbaugh a back like Hart is not as critical, so this really has no impact on the decision.
Thanks Tom for the ongoing coverage. I'd hate to see Mr. Snake-oil himself getting snake-oiled by Saban :-) Now all we can do is wait for January 1.
I will add that while I think he's being genuine right now, I think this might change from now until the Army game.
the fact that you can't seem to get in contact with him yourself, which we all know you were readily able to do prior to this past week? Is that a signal to you that he really isn't leaning towards staying with RRod and Michigan?
Tom - Couldn't you see him just having fun with the process and very well be throwing things out there since he can see the repercussions of his every mood change throughout recruiting Blogs/Papers/Sites, etc?
I understand that there's a logjam with Bama at RB. But with Saban on his field for a week I don't count that guy out, it was obviously a calculated move...
......this is good news....i think.
That's terrifying yet I can't stop watching.
Dee is just trying to do what's in his best interest. He understands that his skills are best suited for a spread offense. If RR gets fired, then he'll go play for another great spread coach in Urban Meyer. You can't blame the kid for trying to put himself in the best situation to succeed.
Steve Addazio just read this comment, then walked to the bank to cash some checks.
Tom's the man. that is all.
Let's not get too excited, but thanks for the update Tom VH.
I guess like the obvious pressing issue- we'll just wait and see. It's too bad that he won't be enrolling early but DH has to do what is in his best interest.
Am I the only person who now feels really concerned about the report a week ago that Calvin Magee had dropped by for a visit with Urban Meyer?
Yes. Most rumors/leaks are pointing that Steve Addazio will be back next year.
I knew I should have checked most rumors/leaks before getting myself all worked up.
Not trusting EDSBS about Florida football is akin to not trusting MGoBlog about Michigan football. If Orson Swindle thinks Addazio is going to be back, it's solid enough for me. The cite above has a quote from Urban Meyer about bringing Addazio back. What more do you want?
I was going to write something snarky, but I stopped. The simple fact is that you have been around MGoBlog way too long to trust everything you read on here. And EDSBS is no different.
I have no idea whether Adazio will be back (I hope he is because I don't even want to think of RR losing assistant coaches right now), but I'm pretty sure Urban Meyer doesn't confide heavily in the guys at EDSBS. When and if Urbie makes a change, he will let everyone know on his own timetable.
Your calling the EDSBS stuff rumor, but you're calling the single, random, anonymous poster on a free board's post a "report"?
Or is there some other "report" that you are referring to?
that's a great kid to change his life plans like that. maybe there was something else to it, but it's a big change to not enroll early.
If anything, this makes me like Hart even more. He's probably done a lot of work to get himself prepared to graduate early and enroll at any of the hundreds of schools that are recruiting him. Going early lets him adjust academically while possibly making the difference between redshirting, getting some playing time or starting.
If his decision was just about football, he could probably just say good-bye to the ambiguity in AA and say hello to Alabama, Florida, Auburn or wherever. Instead, he's going to take his time, wait and see what happens when he's got all of the information he needs and make an informed decision.
It may have been a while since I was 18, but that seems like a fair amount of patience and maturity for someone at that age.
Just goes to show Hart is a smart mature guy. I love when we go after these players. I would do the same exact thing in his situation. Whether its here or with the Gators, he will succeed. I wish him the best, and I hope for stability for our program and a big bowl win :) Gotta love recruiting tho!
This can't be correct. We have had a couple different threads with well over 100 posts stating that DB dragging this out is what caused Dee to think about decommitting. Uninformed masses can't be wrong, can they? Impossible. Now we find out that it doesn't matter the time frame but the outcome of the decision? Somehow this still has to be Brandon's fault. I don't know how, but the popular thing to do is blame him for anything recruiting related, so I am blaming him. Who's with me?!?!?!?
I can't say that I have read EVERY thread about the timeframe and its potential effect on recruiting but the ones I have seem to point to kids decisions hinging on the outcome of DB's decision. The fact that the timeline is what it is exascerbates the issue.
I have said before, if JH takes over after the bowl game this timeline will make perfect sense. The issue is if RR returns this timeline was a blunder. I don't think there is one educated UM fan that doesn't believe this timeline is having an impact on recruiting in some way. If the timeline wasn't impacting things, Dee Hart would be enrolling early. If you can't admit that this timeline is having an impact,I don't know what can be done for you.
Author of one of those threads here.
My entire point was that DB needs to make a decision now, one way or the other, or recruiting would suffer because of uncertainty. Dee was an example of the instability, but I said the far greater impact would be in the decisions of those that were uncommitted and trying to decide - Frost, Zettel, Bryant, Walls etc etc. We are on the cusp with a lot of recruits and they will want stability.
It has now been proven that the entire reason Dee wavered was due to coaching instability...like I said. Not because he liked another school more or was somehow scared by Hayes as some said. He wants to play for RR and only RR, understandably. Since he doesn't know who the coach is going to be and he wants to EE, he started creating backup plans.
This caused our coaching staff to have to fly down to FL to reassure Dee that RR will be here. Apparently a deal was struck where Dee stays or goes depending on RR's fate. The entire point of my thread was that all of this could have been avoided if DB would make up his mind with the 3 years of data he has. If it's RR, then obviously he would get a couple years extension to signal stability, the negative recruiting slows dramatically, the whole Dee issue never happens (waste of energy on our part to fly around the country giving assurances) and our coaches are able to focus on filling up the class with first choices instead of 2nd/3rd ones. If it's JH, then he at least has time to try and retain kids like Hart (who didn't have a month to think it over, hear how bad they would be for the new offense from other coaches, and/or already decommit) or at least replace them with quality replacements. It's not easy to throw a class together in 3 weeks, which is what JH would be forced to do, especially when he will have to (apparenty) replace the #1 Rb and likely others.
result of the bowl game (or Brandon is hedging because of Harbaugh wanting to play out the string in Palo Alto this year), there is no reason why Brandon should not have already made a decision.
make's sense,Dee Hart is a perfect fit for the spread.I hope they both stay.GO BLUE!!!
And just say these words.
"I play, coach stays. He goes, I go."
We all know how this ends.
It all makes sense....GERG is like Shooter, we just need for him to get over his demons, become a better father to his son (Terrance Robinson?) and then he'll be the best assistant ever, right?
I can't wait for Gerg to bust out the "picket fence" defense against toMSU
Perhaps Dee never really intended to renege. Rather, he is simply using his leverage to keep RR in AA.
As always, thanks for your recruiting updates. My guess is that losing a highly-rated recruit for the offense like Demetrius Hart, due to the uncertainty about the Head Coach position for 2011, would hurt, even if the depth at running back may appear to present no urgent needs.
Have you heard any news about how many recruits for the Michigan defense are going elsewhere because of the uncertainty about a Defensive Coordinator for 2011? How many potential recruits for the defense either never considered or have rejected Michigan because of the chance that Michigan’s Defensive Coordinator for 2011 might be Greg Robinson whose last six college defenses have been ranked 57th (using another coach’s recruits), 111th, 107th, 101st, 82nd and 108th among all FBS schools?* And whose most-recent NFL defenses were ranked 24th for the 2000 Denver Broncos, 23rd for the 2001 Kansas City Chiefs, 32nd for the 2002 Kansas City Chiefs, and 29th for the 2003 Kansas City Chiefs.
* I’m aware that the one outlier for Robinson’s most-recent coaching accomplishments came when, as Co-Coordinator for the 2004 defense, he helped Texas rise from 25th in 2003 to 23rd in 2004.
This is actually what I anticipated. Dee Hart, as a small running back, is very well suited to Michigan's offensive scheme, and hence, to RR. The depth chart, and those in the depth chart, also affect this. While I would love for Hart to enroll early, I think it is less critical in his particular position.
Sousa, given the depth chart, and the spread vs. pro-set scheme, (inherent in a potential change from RR to some other coach,) seems wise to commit elsewhere now. After all, he could recommit in January. But more than that, should Devin get a red-shirt, Sousa might well not see the field for 4 years. I could see him waiting three years, giving him two years on the field (with a red shirt.) But waiting 4 years? With no guarantees? That's asking a lot.
Lucien, on the other hand, is at a position (WR) where Michigan has been strong both in a pro-style offense, and running the spread. Who is the coach is less important.
For yet other reasons, i suspect that Walls & Lyons want to play for RR, and will wait until the coaching situation sorts itself out. I believe several other potential 4 star recruits are in this camp.
I think that DB is in the right place to light the fire under RR. Support him, yes, but not blindly. And whatever happens, RR has to commit the resources, in recruiting and coaching, for the defense to improve.
I certainly hope there is next to no importance associated with whether 1 4* recruit would come. While I hope Dee comes, and has a great career, his coaching decision is about the program - not one kid.
We need better player development. The hope when RR came in centered on his ability to compete at WVU with 3* players , and out wishful thinking of what he could do with higher caliber players. The problem is that he hasn't been able to get many of these.
Denard doesn't need spinach, he needs a defense.
At the margin, a great player like Dee does make a difference. Sure, he's not going to single-handedly win a NC for us, but with him, and the rest of the team, we have a good shot at getting there. Without him, it would be a lot tougher.
At least now, we have some clarity. Would have been sweet if he enrolled early though.
Will, I'm sorry, but I can't take this shit any more. Denard setting the NCAA record and a bajillion Big Ten and Michigan records AS A SOPHMORE isn't evidence of player development?! A team made up of mostly underclassmen that had a 7-5 season and is going to a New Year's Day bowl isn't evidence of player development? Can we please wait until we have some upperclassmen to make this criticism?
Someone get this man a white cane with a red tip and some dark glasses.
I agree that the decision is about the program. But potentially losing a 4* recruit if you already know the coach is staying and not announcing it....well that's just bad. Which can only mean one things, right?
This makes me happy although i know if richrod leaves at least we know what is going to happen and it wont be a surprise.
BUT....... besides all that this has just made m day at 7:45 am. Today will be a good day now. Thank you Dee Hart
Too many alums don't support RR. DB knows he either needs to fire him or extend him so he is not a lame duck. He can't extend him without an emotional victory because of the alums and he won't fire him without a commitment from Harbaugh which is obvious has not happened or Les Miles which again has not happened.
DB needs RR to have that victory to shut up the alums. After the victory RR gets his 2 year extension which gives the recruits the warm and fuzzy to commit. No victory and RR gets the ziggy and we lose half a recruting class but DB gets to make a slow deliberate coaching change.
Basing his decision on 1 game is a huge mistake, IMO.
Well, this is exactly why people should not lose their minds when news like this comes out. Rivals was clearly not correct about him committing to Bama. And frankly, with all the coaching news, I am sure every to recruit has been thinking twice, and that won't end until the coaching situation quiets down.
I think RR is back, and I think Hart, after all this, is Blue.
Taking the de out of de-commit
spread offense coach in RR's mold? Everyone has automatically assumed Harbaugh would be the choice but what if DB has someone else in mind? Hiring another spread guy could minimize the damage with recruiting and transfers...thoughts?
P.S. I am in favor of giving RR the opportunity to see out the remainder of his contract. I have a good feeling about our bowl game and next season!
not help but notice that someone dropped a neg on your fair post. I wondered as to the nature of this negativity. It was only after reaching the bottom of your post that I realized you were not being negged for your opinion so much as for your exuberance. By that I mean the use of the phrase: GO BLUE!
Imagine MgoBlog as the Heritage Club, with the majority of the members sitting around in overstuffed high backed chairs, reading the daily news and conversing with their neighbors over cigars and a glass of perfectly aged Armagnac. Everyone is clucking their tounges and nodding approvingly to one another when you come bustling in to the room. You make your statement to the entire room and then yell GO BLUE! One of the patrons being a Michigan man himself puts down his cup of Earl Grey and condescends by replying quite dryly "go blue, indeed." To which you respond "GO BLUE!" I would suggest tempering your enthusiasm just the tiniest bit. Drop at least one of the GO BLUEs at the end of your posts. And save some it for game days.
Keep a stiff upper lip and don't let the bastards drag you down.
p.s. +1 for being a Michigan fan.
That sig pic is nice. Where did you get it.
So.... Dee Hart is staying as long as RR stays. FUCK YOU Jim Rome. Where's Jim Everett and a table when we need one?
You sexy bastard.
JH comes in and runs the spread? would that be enough to keep Dee?
That is the same paper that reported Dee told them he was leaning to Bama right before he announced for us? Why are we believing anything they report.
That wouldn't be the first, or last, time a newspaper was given wrong information or reported it wrong.
Until TomVH (who I trust) hears it directly from DH then I will give it the weight it deserves. None.
