TomVH: DB Allen Gant Visiting Thursday

Submitted by TomVH on

I just spoke to Ohio DB Allen Gant (6'1", 182 lbs) and he told me the Michigan coaches invited him up to Ann Arbor this Thursday. He said he's hoping that they offer, but he's not sure if they will.

If the coaches do offer Gant he said he's still going to take his time with the process and let everything play out.

I've known about Gant for about a year now, but have never really been very impressed with his play. I understand he's a legacy, but I'm not quite sure he's done enough to warrant an offer.

Yeah I totally agree with u I have Played against him for the past two years and I have never really been impressed with him because he doesn't have that great of speed and is not very physical. He takes many plays off and to me he just seems lazy IMO. Hopefully if he does get offered it's after he shows the coaches what he can do and they are impressed with him.

I understand your opinion ... but I totally disagree.  My son has played against him for 2 years also (I've watch him for 3).  He's the best athlete in the conference and one of the best in NW Ohio.  The shame of it is ... his football coach doesn't play him enough.  He's a great receiver and better defensive back.  I've seen him in the past return punts.  According to his info at the Ohio State camp last year (and per one of his coaches): 6' 1 1/2 ... 208lbs ... 4.55 ... bench press 285 7x. My opinion is that he is a heck of a hitter and football player and is underrated because of not enough playing time.

personally i think he will end up playing linebacker in college.  He reminds me more of a steve brown\ prescott burgess type of player than a saftey.  but he does have very good hands and he also likes to hit.

From observation and feedback from College Coaches that are in NW Ohio to recruit him ... he is wanted at many positions.  From a personal observation he can play both safety positions or short corner.  He reminds me of Garland Rivers.  At Gant's high school, they play man-to-man defense most of the time.  He is an excellent cover guy.  He is wanted as a receiver (Syracuse - Tyrone Wheatley is recruiting him).  I've seen him the past 2 years line up at TE in scrimmages against Toledo Whitmer's bookend DE's (OSU-bound Hayes & everybody's 2012 #1 player Wormley) and hold his own.  Gant is a very underrated player.
