TomVH: Camp List

Submitted by TomVH on

Michigan's camp starts today and run's to the 23rd. I'm obviously not there, but here's who has told me they will be there at least one of the day. There is going to be a ton of kids at this camp, since it's back to being big and open to everyone.

  • RB Juwan Lewis (5'11", 208 lbs) 3 star from Muskegon
  • QB Austin Appleby (6'5", 228 lbs) 3 star from Ohio. Hoping to earn an offer.
  • OL Steven Elmer (6'6", 297 lbs) 2013 prospect from Midland, MI. Just received his Michigan offer today, they're on campus. Already has Michigan State, Mississippi State, and Wisconsin.
  • QB Brian Blackburn (6'5", 197 lbs) from Detroit might be there.
  • DT Danny O'Brien (6'2", 293 lbs) 4 star from Flint. This camp could help him and Michigan get back on the same page. He'll be there Monday or Tuesday.
  • OL Daron Brown (6'5", 312 lbs) from Detroit. Just received an offer from Akron to go with Buffalo.
  • RB Alden Hill (6'2", 220 lbs) 3 star from Ohio. Hoping for a Michigan offer.
  • OL David Dawson (6'5", 305 lbs) 2013 kid from Cass Tech. I'd imagine there will be more Cass kids like Kenton Gibbs, who will be there 20th and 21st, coming with him.
  • DT Vontrell Williams (6'2", 265 lbs) 3 star from Illinois. Trying to earn an offer. The 21st is when he'll be there.
  • Maybe: Michigan commit Anthony Standifer and his 2013 teammate WR Laquon Treadwell.
  • QB Robert Gregory (6'3", 181 lbs) 3 star, teammates with Jordan Diamond is supposed to be there.
  • DB Cameron Burrows (6'1", 175 lbs) 2013 prospect from Trotwood, Ohio. He isn't sure if he's coming or not yet.
  • DE Matt Miller (6'4", 240 lbs) 2013 prospect. He's '11 signee Jack Miller's younger brother. I confirmed with Jack that Matt will be there. He said the coaches are interested in Matt and they're excited to see him at camp.
  • RB/FB Wyatt Shallman (6'3", 245 lbs) 2013 instate prospect will probably be up on Monday to hang out. He won't be participating.

This is just a small list of notable people I've confirmed. I'll post them as I hear of more.

Education will be important for them, but yeah Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Michigan State are likely the schools that stick out the most so far. He's going to have a ton of offers though, so we'll just have to wait until the dust settles to see.

I'm a big fan of Elmer. He has the tools to be an elite prospect and might be the top player in the state next year.

I was just relaying what the guys said on the radio show. They also said it told them a lot about Godin and his effort/passion, because he waited in line to go up against Elmer, knowing that he was probably his best competition at the camp.

His mother is an msu alum and had his father throw away all of his Michigan gear when they got married. I've also heard that his father frequents ND message boards so take that, fwiw.

Yeah, maybe not the best way to say it, but true nonetheless.  If my wife told me to throw away all my Michigan stuff, I'd laugh in her face.  In fact, I'm sure my fiancee couldn't ask me that with a straight face.

BUT:

She threw away my Michigan stuff that I had collected before we married. That all changed because my other son, when he was 2, they thought he had leukemia. They took us down to the U-M Hospital and we had to stay at the Children's Cancer Center for a week or so. They do a tremendous job there. I feel like it was yesterday, but it was at least 12 years ago. We've still got a hat signed by some (Michigan) linemen (that came to visit the hospital) — the only Michigan thing we have in the house."

Hope this on again/off again dating he's doing with Michigan will result in a full time relationship.

OL Steven Elmer (6'6", 297 lbs) 2013 prospect

Holy crap, he's that big and he's a 2013 kid? Sign him up, he'll road-grade DL's !

EDIT: ok now that I've actually read the comments I guess I'm late to the game knowing about this kid.  Anyway... can't let him go somewhere else... he's gonna be a monster.

WOW!  The level of talent coming to the camp are not blue-chippers.  Not bad players, but certainly not blue-chippers.  Does anyone know what is determined in who comes to camp and who does not?  Is it the coaches choices, or players?  I see other camps like Nebraska, Auburn, USC, Tennessee, etc with a load of blue-chippers, so why is it different with Michigan who has about the same as or higher tradition in football then the other schools?

Most of the blue-chippers we're after have either committed already or have been to campus a handful of times (or have already decided they aren't interested).  I imagine that plays a big role.

I like the idea of Dawson next to Elmer, but it looks like it will take some work:

As for his long term future, things are starting to shake up for Dawson. Several colleges have shown interest in him. College’s like: Florida, Oregon, Iowa and Idaho have sent Dawson questionnaires. Dawson mentioned, “I'm very interested in Florida and Oregon. Both schools have contacted me with questionnaires and in my junior season I will receive offers from those two power houses.” Dawson also listed several other teams that he is interested in stating, “I really like Florida, Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, and Michigan State.”

Find out I talk to Dawson and several other players quite a bit.

I did a recent Q&A on his request between now and Jan.  But I can do another Q&A this summer with him.

If you ever want to find out more or updated quote, just comment on my site.  That, facebook or twitter is best way to ask something like  that/

Thinking Blue. He is a solid fit at DT, and he sees the way this defense is being built. Michigan would be a solid fit for him. Hard to turn them away at this point. I am hoping Michigan can land Elmer in the '13 class as well. That kid is a stud.

This is a great opportunity for our coaches to get a close look at O'Brien, and see if they think there is a match. If they want to proceed, it is also a good opportunity for them to talk to him about the program. It could be an important meetup for his recruitment.

Is there any tape on Standifer's teamate Laquon Treadwell? Big WR who pretty much said he'd commit when he got the offer on twitter. Can't find any football tape on youtube.
