TomVH: Blake Countess Update

Submitted by TomVH on

As reported last week, Maryland DB Blake Countess (5'10", 170 lbs, 4 Star) was offered by Michigan. I spoke briefly with his coach yesterday to get an update from him, and here's what he had to say.

He's loving Michigan right now. He's going to visit the first or second week of December. They've been recruiting him for awhile now, and he really likes Coach Dews. Dews is a great guy, real humble.

It was a brief conversation so I didn't get to go in depth about anything else. It sounds like Blake is planning an official visit. It could be the first week, or it may be for the Big Chill hockey game that has other recruits attending as well. EIther way, it's good news for Michigan.

Countess' rivals ranking just shot way up.  From #245 to #156.  Almost a 100 spots.  Very impressive.  Senior tape must be getting everyone's attention.

Lyons also dropped from 87 to 160 because of a knee injury.  Hopefully he's not Vlad 2.0.

Also, that TE we lost to Iowa jumped way up.

That's funny, I was just complaining that I thought recruiting wasn't doing well.  I guess I always want to see a handful of difference makers that have a possibility of playing as freshman.  Rather than a bunch of 3 stars being forced into starting roles.

I hate to bring this type of thing up, but with strong interest from Countess and Crawford, and reports less than glowing about Greg Brown..I wonder if we would encourage him to explore his options. Maybe he will come here and be an all-american..who knows. But it seems like we have bigger targets and limited space.

I've said this before, but his grandma fell ill so he somewhat put recruiting on the back burner. He still plans on graduating early, but he's not sure what his visit schedule is going to look like. He's still in constant contact with Michigan.

All 3 main sites are remarkably consistent in ranking:

Rivals: 4 star, 5.8, #19 CB

Scout: 4 star, #18 CB

ESPN: 4 star, 80, #14 CB

He's hip-flipper who doesn't mind getting physical.  We need some of those.  Though Scout does note: "needs work in removing mouthgard before taking playa photos"

By my count, Countess is actually the #14 CB on Rivals.

The position rankings don't reflect recent changes (for example Hollowell is still ranked as the #18 CB even though he is no longer in the Rivals 250, while Countess is #156).

that is a stud name to play DB.  Possible addition of Dallas Crawford.  So I take it Tom with the recent offer and growing interest from Blake Countess, Daren Kitchen wont get that offer of his?
