TomVH says via twitter he expects Carroll to have a big impact on Dillon Baxter. Reports Baxter will "wait and see" what happens.
TomVH on Baxter and Carroll
to help the Seahawks with their offer to Pete.
If Pete Carroll were to leave USC, that would mean huge things in the Seantrel Henderson recruiting sweepstakes too. It might push him to Miami or, gasp, Ohio State.
And Prater to Illinois.
I would take Kyle Prater over any of our current WR commits. Hes been unstoppable in the AAA bowl practices.
There is no football player on the planet for whom the statement "the only team he would be a success with is USC" applies. Being a successful starter at Southern Cal implies that that same individual would have been a successful starter at a minimum of, say, 110 other D1 programs.
Are we his #2 team? According to Rivals the other teams he's considering are Michigan, San Diego State, and UCLA. That would be a huge pick up.
We nearly flipped him when he visited for the OSU game.
However, if Carroll leaves, it'll be open season on all their commits. I suspect Neuheusel is stocking up on lotion as we speak.
so he can spank it?
Neuheusel looks like a snake.
It also shows no offer from ucla, so I would think we would be number one if he drops USC. I would poop myself if he takes Tony Drakes spot.
Uhh... who exactly do you mean by "we"?
I was really hoping we didn't get paulus. ESPN's bottom line is showing BREAKING NEWS.... Carroll is trying to get his OC to come with him to SEA... source close to situation says "it will happen"..... Carroll texts mortenson " I haven't awnserd NFL questions in 2 years".... Granted this is coming from the world wide leader that told me Les Miles is MEEECHIGANS head coach, and manny is a yankee. I really hope this happens and Baxter jumps on board with us.
if you get a team manager to hand you a towel first, you can be just like rick majerus!
Alright UM can have Baxter and Parker, ND gets Riley and Prater, ok?
Deal. *grudging handshake*
We are finally united.
Can we have all of them instead?
No - Parker isn't included in the deal since there's a pretty good chance we'll get him outright...
maybe a Parker guarantee AND a 33% shot at Henderson.
Sorry Henderson's not on the table
ND: Riley Not interested in UM, ND is in his top 4
Prater has ND 2nd behind USC
UM: Parker Not interested in ND, UM is in his top 3
Baxter has UM 2nd behind USC
Take the deal, its a good deal=)
The last time someone told me that I was left with no tires on my car and what turned out to be a broken PS3 in my hands.
Tom Hagen (Not That Tom Hagen) told the hollywood producer before he woke up with a horse's head in his bed?
Kelly goes to SC
To go to Seattle. The list of successful college head coaches who immediately became successful NFL head coaches is extremely small.
This Seattle gig reminds me a lot of Saban at Miami, which was basically a failure.
Spurrier also comes to mind.
Unless it's all about the money, I don't understand this move.
Carroll had a winning record in the NFL, fwiw.
People are saying that the NFL games changes too fast for Bill Cowher to return b/c he's been out too long and I think Carroll has been out way longer.
People who say the game has already moved past Bill Cowher have also been referred to as "stupid".
Simliar to what I think Tom Izzo could do with the Pistons if they made him an offer, Carroll could write himself a "retirement contract;" one which would make him so much money in the next five years that neither he nor anyone in his immediate family would ever have to work again unless they chose to do so.
If he does great, it's the crowning jewel on his career. If he sucks, he still gets the money. Sounds like a win/win for Carroll. And I do agree with the myriad posters who think Carroll doesn't want to suffer the consequences of his less-than-ethical actions at USC. I guess that makes it a win/win/win for Carroll.
...Is the obvious reason to go and that's certainly fine. I'm just expressing my displeasure from the moral/ethical side.
speak louder than words.
If so, then I say, "Man up, Carroll and lead your program through the sanctions."
No, Pete Carroll would go 19-0, the time to flex his greatness on the NFL is now. He needs to realize how much better a coach he is compared to most NFL coaches, and that the banhammer is coming and to get out of town. Then Baxter needs to bong some snake oil at a party and chase it with maize kool aid.
On the surface you're right, seems slightly moronic. The guy is king of LA (unless a good NFL team sprouts there). But underneath, you've got some serious football and USC allegations out there that might be gaining some steam, and he might want to get out before the shit hits the fan (in Reggie Bush's parents' free house) or the SUV (McKnight's).
This just makes him seem cowardly. If he messed up, then I think he should stay and fix it instead of running away. It's kind of a poor example to be setting for his players (assuming the sanctions are why he's leaving).
Even if he wanted to stay and fix it, would the school give him the opportunity? I would think major sanctions typically get you fired.
I'd surprise me to hear that USC fired Pete. Someone would get fired if the NCAA handed out major violations, but I kinda doubt it'd be Pete.
Don't you know Pete Carroll reads this blog??? Don't mess this up for us!
Sorry to everyone who was obviously upset by my opinions (even though others clearly agreed).
I wasn't wishing ill on M. Tough crowd today.
He was joking, I think.
But the general feeling from the community about my opinions on this matter were less than positive, so I just wanted to apologize for creating a negative vibe - I didn't realize I was saying anything so controversial.
If he was the kind of guy who would bolt because he thought sanctions were coming, I doubt he'd be the kind of guy to care about the example he sets.
I'm merely pointing out that's it's not right. He's going to leave USC, make a ton of money, and be no worse for wear. Meanwhile, the current players will lose their head coach and possibly be excluded from post-season play.
You're right about the effect on current players. If any sanctions do come (which is still speculation, and I personally doubt will happen) it punishes the wrong people. Brian's write up on the USC basketball program at TSB made some great points about the subject.
he would kind of be crazy to go. However, Carroll's situation is a little different then most colllege coaches that go to the pros. Carroll already has been a head coach in the NFL. He won a division title with NE in 1997 and made the playoffs the following year again with NE. He knows what the pro game is about.
Did Saban have much experience with the pros before he went to Miami? I know Spurrier played pro football but he had been in the college ranks a long time before he took a shot at coaching in the pros.
Nick Saban was Belichick's D Coordinator for 4 seasons with the Browns before he became a college head coach at Michigan State. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was getting into when he took the Miami job.
not if ncaa sanctions are looming...maybe carroll knows something. one can only hope.
is he will be coaching all his former players. :)
All kidding aside, why would he ever leave that sweet gig at USC besides if there are violations?
There seems to be no HUGE job has that less pressure in CFB than his, plus I'm sure USC would pay him whatever he wants. UF, ND, OSU, OU, UT, UM, Bama, LSU all the big boys I can think of seem to be WAY tougher jobs than Carroll's.
The Mora firing sure seems premature, if not even a little fishy. The Seahawks brass must have a plan/tenative agreement already in place to replace him with a superstar type guy or this firing really is out of left field.
Does he also play safety? I forgot
He's only an offensive player.
You might be thinking of Dietrich Riley, who's a RB/S prospect from California.
You would have to think that Brian Kelly is wondering why all of this had to happen AFTER he went to ND.
i think that the only way we dont get baxter is if a coach he really liked from a school that wasnt quite good enough for him takes the job...
is that riley?
By other school I mean Florida and their "tour guides".
